Returning to Dover [evolution trial in Dover, PA: week 2]
York Daily Record [Penna] ^ | 03 October 2005 | TERESA MCMINN

Posted on 10/03/2005 6:22:51 AM PDT by PatrickHenry

After a weekend break from a court case involving intelligent design, the Dover school board officials will face business as usual. The board today will hold its first school board meeting since the trial began.

On Sunday, Dover school board member David Napierski said he sympathized with the time fellow members Shelia Harkins and Alan Bonsell have spent on the court case.

“I really haven’t seen it erode them from their duties,” he said. “It definitely has taken a lot of their time . . . I think it is sapping some of the people, too.”

The trial began Sept. 26 in U.S. Middle District Court in Harrisburg. It resumes Wednesday.

Napierski hopes to attend at least one day per week of the trial.

“We’re seeing one side of the whole picture right now,” he said. “I think it’s going to go all the way up to the Supreme Court.”

He said dealing with the court case while running the school district is a “double-edged sword.

“I just hope and pray that our focus will stay on business,” he said.

School district residents might have a difficult time resuming day-to-day life as it was before the trial began.

Lonnie Langioni left his position as a school board member in Dover in 2003. He said the issue has divided the community and he wants folks to again be friends.

“We’re just going to have to let it run its course,” he said about the trial. “I’m just waiting for the day that this is all over and that the people of Dover can go back to talking to each other again.”

He said he follows the case and reads newspapers and articles online.

“It’s crossed all kinds of lines,” he said of the trial. “Dover is a great community. We all need to respect each others’ viewpoints.”

Former Dover school board member Barrie Callahan, a plaintiff in the court case, is ready to spend more time in court this week.

“The case needs to proceed,” she said Saturday. “I know the issue. To see it through the process is truly fascinating.

“You’re seeing the best of the best,” she said about attorneys. “It is an honor to be in their presence.”

She said she’s been following news of the trial posted online.

“It’s not about little tiny Dover,” she said. “This case really, really is important.”

UPDATE

Trial schedule: The trial resumes Wednesday and Thursday in U.S. Middle District Court in Harrisburg and is scheduled to continue Oct. 12, 14, 17 through 21, 24, 27 and Nov. 2 through 4.

At stake: It’s the most significant court challenge to evolution since 1987, and it’s the first time a court has been asked to rule whether intelligent design can be taught in public schools. Experts say the case’s outcome could influence how science is defined and taught in schools across the country. The lead defense lawyer said he wanted to take the case to the U.S. Supreme Court.

Coming this week: Among the scheduled witnesses: Dover school district science teacher Bertha Spahr and Jennifer Miller and plaintiffs Cynthia Sneath, Joel Leib and Deb Fenimore.

Barbara Forrest, a professor of philosophy at Southeastern Louisiana University, also is scheduled. Forrest co-authored “Creationism’s Trojan Horse,” subtitled “The Wedge of Intelligent Design.”

What I said was, what goes around will come around, If we ban they will too, turns out I was wrong.

Now, do you have anything intelligent to say? or are you just going to continue your childish behavior? which has nothing to do with the topic of this thread?

Grow up. I suspect you got beat up alot in school and don't have any friends.

"In any case, a frog is a collection of interacting simple cells, something that took evolution time, billions of replications and various types of selection to produce."

And the evidence of this is where? As I've pointed out, we have an extensive collection of fossils on this planet covering all periods. There should be evidence of these transitions everywhere. You are just repeating 150 year old theory.

The statement was true.

The newpaper you link to says:

Patterson goes on to acknowledge that there are gaps in the fossil record, but points out that this is possibly due to the limitations of what fossils can tell us. He finishes the paragraph with:

". . .Fossils may tell us many things, but one thing they can never disclose is whether they were ancestors of anything else."

hardly what I call refuting what he said.

it's the author of the article which is refuting what he said, not patterson himself. the Author says this is HIS interpretation of what Patterson said, not pattersons himself. hardly what I would call an unbiased author either.

Of course, my opinion on the interpretation was never going to impress a creationist...

Isn't it hypocritical when a Canadian who thinks Americans should be prosecuted for trying to influence politics in Canada, is down here trying to influence a political debate in the US? As I've said, I have no problem with non-Americans weighing in on US issues. Several of the most insightful posters here are from outside the US. But when those foreign citizens have called Americans 'the dumbest people on the planet', and promoted anti-US policies on foreign websites, I have to wonder why they're here (other than to lower our average IQ by immigrating).

I have been trying to read this thread, am anxious to see intelligent, thoughtful discussion on the subject matter of the thread...but you, for some reason, do go on and on and insult people and make some of the more ridiculous statement, which have nothing at all to do with the thread...

Really, bringing up homosexual tendancies in those who might believe differently than you concerning ID vs evolution is nothing but a lot of brainless, senseless namecalling..

And now you go on to tell RWP, that you suspect he got beat up in school a lot, and has no friends...

You have absolutely no idea at all, about the personal lives of anyone here on FR, or on this thread, yet, you do go on to try to cast doubt on their character, as tho this somehow might strengthen your stand on the issue of ID vs evolution...

I do realize that people supporting both sides of this argument have their opinions, and feel them strongly, and often their language can get out of control...but you, are by far, the biggest offender...your personal attacks are the worst...

Which does make it all the more difficult to follow a rational debate of the subject matter of this thread.

Ah yes...plagiarism isn't really plagiarism if you add or subtract a sentence or two, right?

Creationists seem to get much of their journalistic technique from Molly Ivins. (Or maybe one of more of them is Molly Ivins.)

If we're going to argue from our own inability to see what is right there, I have a beter idea. There is no Nathan Zachary.

In the post to which you replied. You really are a troll, aren't you? I've gotten all your vitals because I have a feeling you'll be ending up in the black box soon -- and it won't be by my hand. I never want you banned. Your presence on these threads shows the lurkers exactly the mentality and tactics of the ID/creationist crowd. You are our recruiting poster.

Who's this Canadian you are talking about?

On FD on July 15 of last year you posted:

Fatso Moore was not in canada acting as a private citizen. he was here to promote his film, therefore acting in his leftist political, and in a business manner, representing micheal Moore Corp, and his loony left ideals. The law is quite clear as well, non- citizens cannot induce, suggest, etc. on national tv and radio, people as to how to vote. What he may have said behind cloed doors isn't the issue, it's what he braodcast. stupidity isn't an excuse for breaking the law either, when a television camera is in your face, don't say stupid things. Charge the fat prick, this is MY country, not his, and he should mind his mouth when he's in it, and respect our laws.

So when you referred to Canada as "my country", you were lying?

Actually, Zac is wrong about the blended frog. Blenders (Osterizer 10 speed) are used in cloning and genetic engineering labs.
1B. Homogenization of Fresh Tissues

a. Wash about 100 g of fresh tissues with tap water, and if necessary, cut into suitable pieces for homogenization with a kitchen blender (Osterizer 10 Speed Blender).

b. Homogenize 20 g of the tissue each time in 200 ml ice cold 1 x HB plus b-mercaptoethanol in the kitchen blender at speed 4 or "puree" for 20 - 40 seconds.

c. Filter the homogenate into an ice cold 250 ml centrifuge bottles as above.

d. Repeat steps b and c to complete the remaining tissues.

e. Add 5 ml 1 x HB plus 20% Triton X-l00 (the final concentration of Triton X-l00 is 0.5%) to each bottle (200 ml 1 x HB buffer), gently mix the contents, and incubate on ice for 20 minutes.

I believe, but haven't been able to find a link, that some plant cloning starts with separating tissue into small packets with a blender. How can you keep 'em back on grampa's farm after they've seen puree?

Another Anti-Evo Serial Plagiarizer nailed again....

However, those who called him on plagiarizing, not to mention mistating what evolutionary theory says, were scolded by the Powers That Be.

Really, bringing up homosexual tendancies

Regarding homosexual tendancies, If I recall, someone was accussing (possibly me) of bring that up, to which I responded: where is the link to that? While I've been TRYING to post what I read on this topic, it seems That certain people here take it apon themselves to start insulting, bashing, accusing ME of my patriotism, even acussing me of not being an American, to which I can only comment on the maturity level of this person, who obvioulsy is not interested in dicussing the actual evidence on the subject.
