Not so ‘Free Republic’: The Shot Heard Around the Net
The Conservative Voice ^ | Feb 11, 2005 | by William Gheen, President, Americans for Legal Immigration PAC

Posted on 02/11/2005 10:55:36 AM PST by Jim Robinson

The shot heard around the Internet has been fired on FreeRepublic.com The owner Jim Robinson and his moderators have launched a sniper style purge against members that disagree with the President’s ‘guest worker’ amnesty or support more control of illegal immigration. Free Republic is an amazing tool for those looking for a good debate and news from around the country.

The problem for the administration of the site is that their creation is allowing the participants to learn that the Bush immigration record and plans are shockingly out of line with the views of most conservatives. The management’s answer to this conflict between the majority of conservatives and the influence of the White House on their Web site has become electronic executions and censorship.

Members and readers of Free Republic would be surprised to know that many members of their community have fallen silent on the discussions about illegal immigration lately because free speech is an illusion on FR.com. They are silent because they have been banned from the Web site without warning, cause, or explanation in most cases. For weeks the moderators have been suspending and banning new members that chimed in quickly on the immigration debates.

Now this trend has broadened as the first groups of long-term users were suspended or banned this past week. Although Robinson and his staff removed many members of the Free Republic community in the first few days of the purge, those that religiously support President Bush’s immigration plan, open borders and approve of public benefits for illegal aliens remain on the forum. Those that were banned were the members that wanted more done to control illegal immigration and a strict observance to the President’s Oath of Office.

Well stated .....repeating the lie loud and long still doesn't make it right. It's about criminal acts against our nation and the race card won't carry their agenda this time........

IMO, you all on FR carry the race card and wear it as a badge of honor, akin to sharpton, mecha, etc.etc.

Per your reply #2734 to my reply #2732.

Dude you should have the cajones(oh the horror, I used a Spanish word) to ping me when talking about my reply #2732.

Oh I forgot you are a govt. union worker, you don't need no stinkin taxpayer to tell you what to do.

my parent was a first generation immigrant and my parent told me that they were called derogatory names and were disliked

Damn right they were. But again, it didn't stop them from craving assimilation into American society. ....and because of that they were eventually accepted.

Also, when watching Spanish television I see 1/2 hour infomercials pushing courses to learn English.

You should've checked out the U.S. vs. Mexico soccer game at the L.A. Coliseum in '98, where the vast majority of the 80,000+ in attendance were rooting for the "visiting" team. The American national anthem was booed mercilessly, and "urine bombs" rained down on both the U.S. players and those in the stands who were brave enough to actively root for the home team.

Needless to say, demographic annexation was (and is) more to their liking that (American) cultural assimilation.

"BTW, there was a thread on FR where a soldier who entered the US illegally, who was on his way to citizenship, joined the Service and gave his life for freedom in Iraq.

JMO, you and your 'ilk' would be sneering at him as a "criminal illegal".

I suppose you could also find a few stray murderers, pimps, ACLU-types, John Kerry, pedophiles, and yes -- even a few "illegals" who've fought as U.S. servicemen. Care to make a comparison to the 500,000 Italian American servicemen in WWII?

What'd you just prove, Sparky?

Furthermore, Luis Gonzales stated "there was no such thing as 'legally' when your [Italian] people came here." Somebody forgot to tell millions of Italians that fact at Ellis Island...

But of course, for self-serving mercenary Cuban immigration attorneys in Florida, loopholes are a beautiful thing indeed.

Fishin? I ain't fishin, seems you are fishin for prospects for a so-called right wing equivalent of sharpton and mecha.

And IMO, that is what the owner of this board is trying to avoid.

Exactly. Hay, secure the border, put up a fense like Israel's, patrol with military units, fine businesses that use illegal labor, etc. But I'd never say shoot women and children as they come across or put mine fields out. People like that make us look like idiots and savages. Furthermore, those who call for a total ban on immigration are equally fools. Australia's model is the way to go: prove you have something to contribute in the way of education or skills.

None of the usual Malkinbots will be able to meet that challenge. They are lying, but sadly, I fear that their lies are carrying the issue.

Hysteria, fear, and lying have trumped reasonable debate on the issue. Sensible proposals are DOA, and it makes me ashamed to be a conservative.

They often cast the most vicious aspersions on the positions, motivation, whether or not they are law-abiding, and even the patriotism of those who have dared to disagree with their solution. It's a sad situation.

This kind of clarity bears repeating:

"If we continue to allow our nation to be flooded with third-worlders (at the current rate) then it'll eventually take on the character of their hellholes of origin. And as opposed to immigrants from nations whose culture is similar to our own, a fat majority of these third-worlders have little intention of assimilating and becoming 'Americanized' .....especially the ones who believe that the Southwest portion of the U.S. is theirs."

Oh gee, it could have much better, such as following the British hooligan model where people actually die attending soccer matches.

Sensible proposals are DOA, and it makes me ashamed to be a conservative.

The conservatives who torpedo them are acting out of a motive other than conservatism.

I think Costa Rica has a good model for immigration. If you're not a Costa Rican citizen, you may not work there unless there is no qualified Costa Rican who will fill the job.

However, nothing prevents you from opening your own business and working for yourself.

No reason to be ashamed, IMO. This vocal, strident, and very small minority is being shown for the narrow minded idealougues they are.

Their patron saint, Pat Buchanan, this morning, basically said that 9/11 was America's fault and that Israel was the evil in the world.

Let them talk, I say. They only dig themselves a bigger hole.

I wholeheartedly agree with that statement. The unfortunate part though is that there are those here who would attack it as Racist, Xenophobic, Ethnocentric or any one of another derogatory 'Nasty' words they love to use to marginalize the debate.

IMO That kind of behavior and the apparent tolerance of it on FR while, at the same time, appearing to silence other voices is the spark to this whole Immigration imbroglio.

Yep, looks like many also *missed* this thread where it seems 'pubs' & 'dems', seem to be joining forces against our lax border enforcement.

Also seems like these two reps might even be....'hispanic'!!!!.........Yet no one is calling them the "R" word, or accusing *them* of propaganda.

Your lame attempt to change the subject matter does not distract from the fact that, as opposed to the (European) immigrants you spoke in post 2737, the majority of third-worlders now in America have no intention of assimilating into our culture.
