"...How quickly they forget the secession of 1776 and Declaration of Independence that founded this very Republic...."

That is our solid Southern card. The Declaration of Independence gives the South the moral high ground. It speaks of seeking independence as a duty of paramount importance. The Second War for Independence was not successful and the defeat was tragic--chimneyvilles all over the South, a devastated countryside, the loss of our best generation of men, unspeakable crimes during reconstruction, and a constitution which became ever more elastic and pervertable.

If we had given up on the 1st revolution and remained part of England we would have had some sort of representation but the cause of good government would have suffered a terrible setback. During the era of 1861 to 1877 we suffered a terrible degrading of the cause of good government.

One observation on my part. A lot of the southron contingent have some really wacked-out interpretations of history and the Constitution.

I agree with you that many posters show almost no understanding of such concepts as nationhood, legitimate government, sovereignty, etc.. Frankly, I frequently post more to educate than to argue. The more militant collectivist types merely provide a foil to help those of us who are really Conservative to point out what really is important. But one cannot undo the results of a distorted education, with a few posts.

Always, one has to make a choice as to how badly to dissect an inapt argument by someone who may be our ally on other issues. Should one be diplomatic, or seek to make an example of folly, realizing that some other people will be persuaded by what seems the course of least resistence in an age of confrontation. Each of us has to make that determination on a case by case basis.

I realize that my comments will seem arrogant and patronizing to those who urge greater dependency on Government. But, of course, that has been the American problem throughout our history, has it not. How to deal with those who want to reverse our past achievements away from that dependency. It is really only an example of our great toleration, that we are not lining the thoroughfares with collectivists hanging from gibbets, for betraying America's very soul. They survive, because we really do believe in the sacredness of the individual.

Sorry for the random thoughts on your comments.
