Artest went into the stands in response to a cup being thrown which hit him in the face. The was a bottle thrown nearly simultaneously which did not hit him. Ben Wallace threw a towel at him prior to that.

I said it was an improvement.

Okay. Hope nobody gets killed before he gets all the way there.

And then he had to go after an innocent guy and start a riot.

That's another thing. The people that threw things started the riot, as was their intention. Throwing things is practically a text book defintion of inciting a riot.

I suppose the scoring table was his "time our" room?

They just announced the suspensions of Artest, Jackson, O'Neil, and Wallace indefinitely pending the end of the league's investigation (maybe tomorrow).

They just showed the clip again from an angle I haven't seen. The plastic cup was almost, if not completely, empty. Artest was laying on his back with absolutely no view of who threw it.

Let's hope people don't walk up to you and start randoming throwing things while you are just laying there. Or maybe you'd just take it forever, so every body can have their fun?

The team fight was over before the cup was thrown. It was Artest and O'Neal who turned it into a riot. Both of those thugs should be kicked out of the NBA permanently

Agree .. they never should have rushed the stands and started beating the fans .. ESPECIALLY when they don't have a clue of who threw the cup

When the fans get out of control .. it's the Security's job to deal with them

LOL. If I were a "professional athlete" in a public forum and made millions per year and KNEW what the proper code of ethics in that situation was - like the soon to be criminally prosecuted and banned forever Artest - I think I'd try and behave a bit differently than some immature punk on a street corner. Actually, I think I'd try and behave like a grownup in any circumstance. That's what I aspire to anyway.

Well, I'm a professional in my field too. But say somebody in my office comes up and shoves me by the throat, and I back up and off. I lay down and mind my own business and someone else comes up and throws a beer on me. You are telling me I am not suppose to defend myself? Don't count on that happening

That is not the same .. in an office, you are in a controlled environment and a riot would not break out

The dude that threw the cup was wrong .. and Security would have thrown his butt out on the street

Artest rushed the stands not knowing who threw the cup and attacked the first person he saw .. He should have known better and so should the rest of the team that rushed the stands beating up on people

Artest rushed the stands not knowing who threw the cup and attacked the first person he saw

He grabbed the guy standing next to the guy who actually threw the cup so he had some idea where it came from. The guy who actually threw the cup (wearing a blue shirt that read Wallace on the back) started throwing punches.

I don't think basketball is any sleazier than the other sports. Football may have more violent crime than the major American sports, but I think in general there's not too much difference to find between football, baseball basketball and hockey

You don't have these types of problems at a NASCAR race :0)

Riiight.

Like earlier this yeer when Tony Stewart tapped the back of Kasey Kahne's car, sending the rookie spinning into a wall — and touching off a fight in the pits between the teams' crews.

No it's all peace and love at NASCAR.

Tell that the the bank manager that was shot and killed while sitting in her office along with 2 other employees. That happened here just a couple of years ago. Was it a riot? No. Was it a controlled situation, nah.

Really, what do you suppose the fan with the beer was trying to accomplish there with is drunk buddies? *sigh* Let's get up to speed here. The person you say Artest "attacked" has been interviewed and said Artest did not hit him. He grabbed him and asked him if he was the one that threw the beer. He never threw a punch until the fans started punching him. Was that the right thing to do? No. Was grabbing him any worse than someone throwing a beer on him. Not really, in my opinion.

There will always be heated times in any sport

My point was it stays between the players, or in this case the racers .. they don't rush and attack the fans

and lovin' it! ;-)

I think tossing perfectly good beer on anyone makes one kind of suspect, and the duking it out thing happens occasionally at a race, but not to the extent at the game.. ;-)

It is pretty disgusting how the sports entertainment industry has lowered its standards in a WWF kind of way, maybe they can someday figure out it lowers their ratings too and just show us a damn game... without all the theatrics and fisticuffs. :-)

How's hubby holding up in the inaugural Chase to the Cup?

How can you people think that NBA players are justified jumping into the stands and punching/attacking fans? Who gives a s*it if something was thrown at them. They get paid millions. NBA better set a real precdent here and suspend these loosers for the season

Disagree a bit there .. Doesn't matter how much a player is paid ... it doesn't mean they are open for attacks

The guy that threw the cup was WRONG ... but Security is the one to deal with that jerk

But to rush the stands was even more wrong and incited the riot we watched on TV
