This is breaking. A high speed chase around Sierra Vista and on to Ft. Huachuca has resulted in 7 deaths and 14 injuries.
A stolen car with 5 people inside led police on a high speed chase along the Highway 90 bypass and on to Ft. Huachuca at speeds in excess of 100MPH.
The stolen vehicle hit new barricades at the East Gate Checkpoint and crossed over the median, striking an outbound vehicle.
4 people in the stolen car have died, and 3 other people are also dead. 14 people are injured.
There are no further details regarding the 3 dead or the injured. As the story develops, I will try to post more.
I dont care what he was on, his job was to slow down, put on his blinker and pull over. We do not have an option of "cooling down". If he was that immature, why did his parents let him drive?
I tend to agree with you ....... to end these chases. But what is to be done in places where people are fleeing in autos? Are they just supposed to get away? There are not helicopters available everywhere. This is a tough problem, but these high-speed chases are ridiculous!
It was sealed by Muslims to block the future path of the Messiah. :-/
Arizona
So the cops let him go and half hour later he plows into a crosswalk full of kids. MANY people here would be screaming 'why did they let him go when they had a chance to stop him?'
Exactly. The thing about drivers in pursuit, they ALL have to stop sometime. Trail 'em with a chopper then snag 'em when they stop.
Stolen car....speeding over 100 mph....hmmm, maybe in this case it was the crooks out of control, ya think?
Welcome to FR.
Geez! What a mess!! Prayers up for the families of the innocents. I don't have much sympathy for the perpetrators...sounds cold I guess.
Your priorities are backwards. The cops didn't kill that football player. The football player killed himself. When I was young they didn't bother with long police chases. If you ran from the cops they just shot you. We don't need to tie the hands of the police any more than they have been tied already.
Let's lay the blame where it belongs. In this case it belongs to the four perps in the stolen car.
*So the cops let him go and half hour later he plows into a crosswalk full of kids. MANY people here would be screaming 'why did they let him go when they had a chance to stop him?'*
Precisely my point, and exactly right. You summed it up perfectly.
No, the keyword was placed there with the post, as well as the fact that I am the source and this is unpublished.
People refuse to read the whole think, I guess.
I certainly hope that was a sarcasm post. The police did not cause the death of the football player. He chose to run.
I just spoke to the newsroom at ABC15 in Phoenix. She said their "sister station" KGUN is trying to get info about this story. Verified to anyone who thinks this isn't real.
Their phone number (news desk) is 602/685-6397
No, he had no warrents. I think the cops spotted him taking a sip of beer.
Problems with this! The chopper loses visual contact if there are high buildings, etc. This gives the guy time to run into a parking garage of whatever and run on foot.
If he is armed and dangerous - he could cause a lot of harm.
Best to stop him when the police have him in their sight.
When my dog chases my sister's cat, I always tell her that the dog wouldn't chase if the cat didn't run. Same goes for the cops. They wouldn't be chasing if the lawbreaker wasn't running. It is tragic when an innocent bystander is hurt in a high speed chase. But if the lawbreaker is injured or killed...I figure he made his choice...
That was my first thought, as well. Our Tahoe was stolen a couple months ago and someone told me Tahoes and Suburbans are often stolen and used to bring illegals into the state.
A few years back we had several Suburbans stolen from our church parking lot (on different occasions). One of them belonged to our neighbors and it was found at the Mexican border. The theory was it was going to be used to transport drugs because of the way the car was dismantled.
When dangerous, *high speed* pursuits have air support in place, the ground units should back way off, follow at a distance.
I'll be sure to ping you with an update.
Blasting through the East Gate at 100 MPH means they had no idea where they were...they were just running.
We just put up barricades at the gates to stop this sort of thing. They worked...too well.
