This is breaking. A high speed chase around Sierra Vista and on to Ft. Huachuca has resulted in 7 deaths and 14 injuries.
A stolen car with 5 people inside led police on a high speed chase along the Highway 90 bypass and on to Ft. Huachuca at speeds in excess of 100MPH.
The stolen vehicle hit new barricades at the East Gate Checkpoint and crossed over the median, striking an outbound vehicle.
4 people in the stolen car have died, and 3 other people are also dead. 14 people are injured.
There are no further details regarding the 3 dead or the injured. As the story develops, I will try to post more.
"NO, the football player should have had the presence of mind and brains enough to stop. Parents need to teach their children how to respond the police effectively and safely.
My dad taught me to stop, show my hands and make eye contact."
To: mlmr - I agree. And there are at least two occasions in which acting in this manner you describe - including being polite - may have gotten me warnings instead of tickets.
BTW, I always read "about" pages before replying to someone for the first time. You may wish to read mine and if I can be of assistance to you on one of your stated goals, please feel free to FReepmail me with questions. Regards, Norski. :-)
well, you are entitled to your opinion..."there you go again"..so this is my opinion (based on experience)...I'll bet anything.. that you and the parents of the young man that 'ran from the cops...have a lot in common....Jr. just can't do anything wrong....it's always "someone elses fault.'!!
Brilliant.
This was a stolen car.
Steal cars, rob people and and flee at high speed so your escape is secured...
Right...
The "football player" killed himself.
"The cops chased down and caused the death of that football player right near where I live. They ought to just stop these high speed chases, they are so dangerous."
And, after that, stop the running foot pursuit and the low speed auto chases? You're probably also for a gun ban. Why not just hand the crooks the keys to the kingdom?
Wrong. Your buddy's dangerous choices led to his own death and HE endangered others lives.
You must put responsibility for his actions where they belong, ON HIM.
The 10 a.m. news here in Mesa says 6 dead and 15 injured - do you know if any were locals??? I lived in S.V. for 16 years until 3 years ago.
That's like saying the police shouldn't fire on someone randomly shooting a gun in public. After all, he will run out of bullets eventually, why put more bullets in the air? A car being driven at excessive speed in a reckless manner is a dangerous weapon. If the driver kills himself or any innocents, it is his fault alone. Reckless and wanton disregard for human life, as is the case of those who chose to engage in a high speed flight from authority, is the sign of a shallow and selfish person.
The best option is that no one is injured, an option that is reduced to near nil chance if the police allow a speeding, reckless driver to continue without trying to stop him.
Thanks for the update, HJ. I haven't had the TV on all day so missed the news.
We have 'masses' of good cops too. Cops who everyday put their lives on the line to try and protect and serve the citizens within their communities. Its easy to sit back and armchair their movements. When is the last time you put your life on the line for a total stranger?
That's what I would do if the Police stopped chasing me. I would head for the next exit, pay my toll, and hope they forgot about me. No way would I abandon the car and try to get away on foot and claim it wasn't me driving when they finally caught me.
If we just gave all undocumented immigrants drivers' licenses, they would have no reason to run from the law.
Hey, let's just give the whole world immigration amnesty. Problem solved!
It's a conspiracy on the part of Bretheren & Sistseren In Chaos Inc. LLC.
We will, at the flip of a switch, paralyse most of the world.
That is why we are working towards banning the old classic cars, they go against our plans of whirled conquest.
Only when the evil gas guzzlers are removed from the roads and everyone drives a car with a kill switch can our evil conspiracy to annoy and harrass everyone on Earth into obeying our whims appear!
Chases are necessary.
Letting the guy go is not an option.
That gets people raped, robbed, and murdered.
Besides, the driver wouldn't RUN if there wasn't a REASON, right?
"They ought to just stop these high speed chases, they are so dangerous."
I live in NY, the Liberals here have always tried to 'let the crooks go'.
That results in the deaths of citizens.
That kind of thinking is repugnant and evil.
Letting the crook go is often more dangerous than the chase itself.
Besides, your comment is so much touchy feely knee jerk reactionism.
If the football player hadn't RUN, there wouldn't have been a need to chase him.
He CHOSE to break the law.
And why let him go?
Merely because he's a football player?
How elitist!
Hold everyone equally accountable to the law and enforce it equally without preference to one's profession or social status!
Just looked at the story in the Arizona Daily RED Star and never once did they mention the word illegal or even undocumented migrant. Must not want to ruin Grajalva's and Pastor's reelection bid. Either that or they're just being extra P.C.
I think that the reason men run from the police is that when the police catch them they throw them in prison and let them get raped. This happens all the time. I know some cops and they laugh about it. They use the threat of rape to keep people in line.
If you don't break the law, what have you to fear?
Don't drink and drive, don't do anything that would get you put in the lockup.
Period.
End of story.
You're too funny! See post #155
Usually they get put in jail --- if your friend just had a sip of alcohol and did nothing more than that, he would not have ended up in prison --- maybe jail until the trial for being a minor in possession and in jail he would have met up with a shoplifter, a bad check writer but not much else.
