Looks like you were at the top of Montezuma Pass. There have been a number of bad incidents in the past year within a half mile of where that photo was taken. US control of that area is tenuous at best. The smuggling cartels own it at night.

Not too long ago, a group of coyotes highjacked a group of illegals from some rival coyotes. The original coyotes beat feet back into Mexico. The new coyotes decided that a couple of the female illegals were prime candidates for a gangbang. Some of the male illegals suddenly remembered where their cojones were and a full out battle resulted.

The coyotes escaped, but several of the illegals needed treatment for gunshot wounds. The young ladies came through unscathed and I personally would have issued green cards to their defenders.

The military is created for the purpose of destroying things. We do it very well. We can guard our border against a tactical military threat. We are not equipped to search cars, trucks and buses, and frisk countless smelly migrant workers, looking for a mythical 25 Chechens armed with backpacks. Put our young Marines or soldiers on the border and ask them to do that for a few years, and you will find yourself without Marines and soldiers.

How about we find out if this is fact or fiction"""

It's fact, not fiction, that we haven't built a wall, or stationed troops, along our borders. That tells me we're not serious about the war on terror.

the genius of this is that chechens look more like classical European Americans. also, there is a mosque in Tucson that was a hotbed of terrorist activity according to the 911 commission report. plenty of sympathizers and supporters in the area that are probably providing a safe house or safe houses for them to launch ops from or jump off from.

"Wartime rules of engaegment" means that you announce a new wartime policy, whereby all invaders will be stopped, one way or the other. No more asinine bleeding heart peacetime policies like "never fire warning shots, just let them go. Never exceed XX MPH, it's too dangerous! The invaders could be hurt in an accident! Just let them go. etc.

The irony is that 100s a year die now, mainly of thirst in the deserts, lured by the promise of an easy entry and plentiful jobs. Once wartime ROE were instituted, the coyotes would go into other lines of work, becaue continuing in the coyote biz would result in death or long prison terms. Thus, the migrants would stop trying to cross the deserts, and 100s of lives a year would actually be saved.

not that we should not do anything..but..I think President Bush has long realized that there is no way anyone can make the US safe from harm..we can certainly do many things to make it safer..but this is one of the major reasons we are taking it to the arab heartland...to demonstate that we mean business and to put them on notice their days are numbered...Clinton sat here for 8 years and took every body blow (pardon the pun) they lobbed at us...just emboldened them..we have to go to them to keep them from coming to us...and if they do, then we must finally, as a nation, come to grips with the threat we face and quit being divided about how we handle this deadly evil in our midst...

Do you think that Chechens are "northern European Caucasian" looking, as other silly freepers have positited? That these folks from the Caucuses mountains region couldn't possibly be dark swarthy types who would blend in among Latinos for a border crossing at binocular ranges?

There was a thread some time ago that also mentioned Tempe Az in that same context, but I can not find it again.

if we build a wall, the UN will condemn it..and John Kerry, as president, would never let that happen....in fact, Kerry has already said that he would amnesthetize everyone in the first 30 days of 'his' administration.

"whereby all invaders will be stopped"

This is becoming circular. Stopping all invaders won't happen. Never has. Never will. Anywhere at anytime. It has been tried. The Chinese built a really cool wall. So did Hadrean, so did the French and so did the Soviet Union. None of them sealed their borders from people who wanted to get around the wall. And when all the enemy needs is a team of 19 guys to create the single largest terrorist incident in world history, he too will find an easy way around your "wall". The solution to our problem isn't sealing the borders. The solution is killing the terrorists before they get near our borders.

You can't build a wall in the first place. Hell the Great Wall of China was only 4,500 miles long.

I suspected as much. Fortunately we were there in the daytime.

There was a single ranger, a lady, in the park headquarters building just up the road from the picnic ground. She was very isolated and alone. We were the only visitor car that pulled up to the headquarters building while we were there. During our hour in the park, we saw only a couple of other cars.

Could be why the local news seems to be making a really big deal out of the security for the debate -- including stories about the secret service, FBI, local police departments, etc.. hadn't put it in that compartment of my brain, but now that you mentioned it... only thing is: Bush and Putin have been at some odds of the President's support of the Chechens'.

Beslan II...

Dammit! Those of us who live along the border and see the illegals streaming across the border every day have been warning about this kind of thing for years. I specifically mentioned, since Beslan, that the schools right down by the border are easy targets for terrorists who have nothing to stop them from crossing. Nothing is being done besides hiring a few more BP Agents and making a show of more enforcement. They're pulling the SUCCESSFUL UAVs off and pulling the recent border build-up back. Kolbe's primary is over and both leading Presidential Candidates have successfully kept immigration out of the debate. I've got smuggler vehicles coming in around the corner from my house nearly every morning. There have been shoot outs recently between smugglers and LEOs.

Man, I'm glad that I homeschool my kids so that they're not possibly in a Beslan II situation down here. Something needs to be done - seal the damned borders already!

This seems a very weak rumor.

Actually, I was defending Travis, not based on one single post, but his overall reputation. You, on the other hand seem to be a big government, open borders Republican. It's hard not to see this in your posts.

No... bite your tongue -- BUT we ALL must address this firmly starting on November 3rd. Start with supporting NumbersUSA in their anti-illegal-immigration push with congress.

Here's a link to the three most wanted Chechens. They don't look swarthy except for maybe Basayev and they all don't look Mexican.

Link

Chechens ARE for the most part fair skinned.
