You are aware that once they are "established", the Border Patrol no longer goes after them... The enforcement provision has been eliminated.

>>>We need a lot more INS agents to keep track of them and force them to go home.

Yeah, I know. If 30% of 4.5 million people enter by walking across the border, that's about 1.4 million people walking across the border every year. That's a lot of people, but I've read that over twice that number are coming in with legal visas.

>>>"Thing is I don't think we can trust the mexican government that much."

No S*** Shirlock, their governments (federal and state) appear to be controlled by several crime organizations. Crime families appear to get voted in and out of office with great cyclicality.

Mexico appears to be an elitist system, with millions of Indian poor people at the bottom who want someone to take care of them (YOU) and a small number of European white familes at the top who want to steal the country blind while they're in office. This has been the modus operandi throughout all of Central and South America for hundreds of years. Periodically an Indian nationalist like Chavez in Venezuela gets in, and this leads to a coup. Then the situation returns back to the two class system. It's sad but there is no hope in Mexico, Central and South America.

So importing their poor only helps the Mexican elite and hurts us taxpayers and our rights as citizens. I read today our esteemed government is enhancing their hospitals with high tech equipment in an attempt to stem the northward exodus to U.S. hospitals. ($$$$)

The best and only thing we can do is build a BEEG wall between us and station some troops there. This problem with Mexico has existed for centuries. They were stealing U.S. cattle in the 1800's and driving them across the border -- just like they do with cars and bicycles today. Read the history of the King Ranch and any Texas history around the 1830's through 1860's.

But now 'there' is 'here.'

Hoppy

The thing you're forgetting here is that there is no practical way to seal our borders against the most dangerous well-financed terrorists. If you seal the land borders, they'll fly in by plane or helicopter.

Bullcrap. That's the logic which says, "Banks should not bother with doors, locks or vaults, because determined robbers could still blast their way in from the alley using dynamite."

The idea is to make it so hard to get in the "easy" ways, that terrorists have to try more complicated routes, where there is a greater chance to ferret them out via fingerprints, their fake documents etc.

Simply allowing millions of unknown foreigners to stroll into the USA during wartime is criminal negligence.

How long before Poobah shows up?

"Can you imagine Katie Couric broadcasting evil American soldiers roughing up Jose, Maria and the ninos on Good Morning America?"

My God the humanity of it all.

True, not all 22,000 miles are equally accessible. Including the area these mythical "Russian hating but America will do" Chechen's that nobody can confirm ever existed potentially crossed over. There are countless ways to enter this country that we will never be able to stop. You could drop a boat off a freighter in the Chesapeake Bay and deliver whatever you want on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. You could buy a false passport and slip previously unknown terrorists through customs. OR...you could convert a single American already in the country, convince him to buy a truckload of fertilizer and have him blow up a random government building. The possiblities and opportunities to gain access to this country are endless. Dedicating countless resources to "close" the border will just leave us vulnerable somewhere else. The ONLY way to keep this country secure is the same way we've kept it secure for more than 200 years. Everyday citizens are going to have to be aware of what is going on around them and act when required. There is nothing like a set of prying eyes to uncover a terrorist plot. And there is nothing like a planeload of pissed off passengers to end a terrorist dream of taking out the Whitehouse. For a bunch of libertarian conservatives, I sure can't understand why some folks on this site think the only savior for our country is larger government programs.

By 2014 in ten years, you wont have to worry about debate fixes, debates, elections, rallies, etc. By then, by all estimates there will be upwards of 45 million people in our country illegal. The elections, among other things, will have been completely undermined by rampant fraud and corruption.

Bush could "one-up" Kerry "for nat'l security reasons" i.e., mobilizing to "look" for these "terrorist" and simply for-go the debate. Kerry can then debate with himself.

Sounds like a good question for the Adhesive and Sealant Council (ASC) -- the only North American trade association dedicated to representing the adhesive and sealant industry.

Check their website -- they should know.Link

The United States Armed Forces are not now and NEVER HAVE been big enough to seal our borders.

Bullcrap. The borders could have been sealed at anytime since 9-11 with a simple PDD (presidential decision directive) to the Border Patrol directing them to use "wartime rules of engagement" to prevent infiltration. The reason we currently have open borders is that the BP is forced to use "meant to fail" Keystone Kops rules of engagement. (Don't exceed this speed on chases, etc.)

There's a war on! This is what sane nations do in wartime, when the enemy SOP is to infiltrate terrorists in civilian garb! They announce and enforce "wartime rules of engagement!"

Pout and whine all you like: after we suffer a Beslan-level massacre, your head will spin at how fast we manage to seal the borders!

Well immigration isn't my strongest subject. I'm more of an economic and financial markets guru. But let me do some research on the web and I'll get back to you about the percentage of illegal immigrants entering with visas. My main point is that sealing the border is not the optimal strategy for stopping the extremely dangerous, well-financed terrorists. You'll catch a lot of drug smugglers at the border, but you have to go overseas to crush Al Qaeda.
