Michigan Rally for President Bush - Live Thread
Posted on 05/03/2004 5:11:53 PM PDT by BigWaveBetty
Live tonight on C-Span at 8:30 eastern, rally for President Bush in Michigan.
I predict there'll be a live thread tonight on Free Republic.
Also, look for Freeper Hillary's Lovely Legs on stage with the president. She's sitting on the top row of the bleachers, stage left, wearing a fuchsia coat.

Back in 1980 I saw Anderson close up. The Secret Service guys formed a shell around him except for where his hands were. They weren't looking at faces, but people's hands. When he lingered in one place, they nudged him along.
Before the eveent, a woman wsa standing next to me and was trying to tell an agent that she knew Anderson. He stared at her so hard through those sunglasses that i thought he was going to burn holes in her.

Newspapers only reach the two bases.
Print media for a poltical campaign is worthless.
People who read newspapers tend to be the political bases. The reason they call them Democrats is it is next to impossible to get them to vote for a Republican. The reason they call them Republicans is it is next to impossible to get them to vote for a Democrat. Those are the people that read papers.
The independents, the so called swing voters, decide every national election. They do not read papers... weekly or daily. They don't read Print information at all. That is why Bush and Kerry don't buy any paper ads.
They do watch TV and they listen to Radio .. but not to Limbaugh or Hannity. They watch local TV news and they watch and listen to entertainment programming.
Local and national TV are the only way to reach the indpenedents. That is why both Bush and Kerry are spending money on TV.
When I say local media, I mean local TV. That is the only place where a national candidate can go fishing for votes and actually catch some.

There were some (and NOT THAT MANY) paid $1000/head inside the Sheraton.. but on bus route, outside hotel. Not one supporter. Even the secret service & few cops didn't seem to happy to be there. Three were 3 freepers & my Dog., Oliver who were there with pro-bush signs/ anti Kerry signs.

Thanks for your report. Being cold compensated by being able to joyfully scream & jump now & then - keeps the blood moving. So happy you got to be part of the event. I went to bed early & am up early...
How is all going with eyesight? I have thought a lot about what you wrote about your ordeal. Isn't God marvelous?

Good morning AM.
This thread is now in the Smokey Backroom? What gives?
Could you please move it to Chat, it certainly doesn't deserve SBR status.

The eyesight recently took a turn for the worse, but fortunately I noticed and went to the doctor and I am back on the wonderdrugs. I am positive, they worked great the last time and they will work again. We are just trying to isolate the cause of the blindness. Right now I am not nearly as bad, just some fuzziness in one eye.
Thank you very much for asking, I appreciate your concern.

We actually got home rather quickly. Only Dad did not dress for the weather. The girls and I were in winter coats and by some divine intervention, they had gloves in their pockets left from winter.
What a great event!
I haven't been able to read this whole thread yet. Did you hear about the protesters at Bethesda? I heard it from one of the sheriffs that was taken with my four year old laughing at his radio going off.

Thanks for the on-scene report!
I woke up this morning thinking about your phone-picture sent early on this thread.
You should suggest to the GOP that they put a Freeper (YOU!) on future bus tours...complete with digital camera, laptop and internet connection! Just imagine having regular, unfiltered reports right from the bus!

That was so much fun to watch, it was like a convention style crowd in size and such ferventness!
I missed the live thread on here, but I didn't miss his campaign stop! I didn't know the lady up in the back was FReeper HLL! LOL
The fuschia coat is an eye catcher. Good job HLL! :)

I didn't hear about any protestors. Did you see the crazy 'Bush Lied' guy at the beginning of Bush's speech?
I am glad your gals were bundled up, it was so cold, I wish I would have worn warmer shoes or at least socks.
I was so glad that it was such a full crowd. I have yet to see a 10,000 person Kerry event.

We had one heckler who started screaming "Bush Lied, you lied about the war". I don't know if they showed it on TV, but some old veterans took him down to the ground. It was fantastic.I could barely hear the guy, but I knew it was a heckler. Bush looked over there toward the heckler, grinning real brightly, and then gave a thumbs up. I think he was giving the thumbs up when the heckler got tackled. LOL
Meanwhile, the CSPAN camera stayed trained on W.

I have to say that the crowd's reaction to the heckler being tackled down was priceless too! Signs waving and the crowd erupting into cheers!

Hi FRiend!
We were there. Dad works on Metro Parkway and just made it at 7:00 before the road was closed.
The girls and I arrived at 5:00 and it was packed already. My six year old read the Freedom Hill sign and announced "Laura Bush is coming too!" (Homeschooling is wonderful). We got into a huge line and were informed, no umbrellas, no blankets, no flags and no snacks, all of which we had. We talked with two of the young volunteers who were in the line next to us for a while. They were great.
We made it through the inspection just fine (my four year old set off the metal detector for some reason, it freaked her out). They let us keep all but the Pringles. We got a great spot and were next to a family from Bethesda. The amount of young people were really encouraging. Lots of kids and lots of young adults.
When they started to show the bus coming in, the crowd went NUTS! They stayed pumped right through the speech. The Sheriffs by us were really sweet and let us stand the girls on the back of the seats so they could see. We cut out a little early because of the cold. We waited with a crowd to get to our cars until the President left and made it home pretty early.
It's something that we can put into the scrapbooks! What a blast!

I heard the heckler but didn't see him taken down. Being short sucks.
Did you hear the people in the bleachers start singing "God Bless American" when the bus was first shown on the screen?

One thing is certain, President Bush has been consistent since 9/11. His "stump speeches" virtually write themselves and spring out of his philosophical orientation. I wish I had been here when the thread was live and active to promote the following yet again:
On 1Jun2002, at West Point, Pres.Bush gave a speech at which he espoused his "Liberty Doctrine". This is the most important thing about his presidency, and whether Kerry and the other Demodogs choose to acknowledge it or not, it will be the defining philosophy for America during this century.
Freepers should all become familiar with it:
http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2002/06/20020601-3.html It is also expanded further on in:
http://www.whitehouse.gov/nsc/nss.html The quote you give here in post#81 demonstrates Pres.Bush still has his eye on the ball no matter the distractions.

HLL, Thanks for the tickets. My wife and daughters had a great time. She said the girls were screaming their heads off. I was stuck in NC on a biz trip but caught most of the speech. How anyone can possibly believe that W is not the right man, with the right stuff, in the right place at the right time is a total idiot.
A buddy of mine got caught by the motorcade and said it was the most impressive thing he's ever seen.
