China got it wrong: 2017 is not the year of the rooster—it’s the year of the white male. 2017 is the year the white man takes back his worth. Black Male Supremacists. Unheard of. Brown Male Supremacists. Unheard of. Because it’s only trendy for American elites to bash white males. Especially white males who never owned slaves; white males who never “stole” land from Native Americans or Mexicans; and white males who never hired an unqualified male over a qualified female in the workplace. How do white men handle the hatred hurled their way? Good question. I’ve prepared a...

Before this year's American election, Tina Woodland had never protested anything in her life. But when she heard that thousands of women were planning to march on the U.S. capital the day after Donald Trump's inauguration, the Yukon resident knew she had to join in. Woodland, who owns a Ford dealership in Whitehorse with her best friend, spent her entire vacation budget for 2017 so that she could take part in the Women's March on Washington — an event she believes will be "a turning point in North America.'' Organizers say the event is meant to promote women's rights rather...

Hillary Clinton was inspiring to us all on this campaign trail and while she may have lost the electoral college, clearly the population loves her. Hillary Clinton was inspiring in so many ways throughout this presidential race and it reminds us that Hillary isn’t just a great candidate for President. She has continued to prove herself time and time again and shows us just how amazing she really is. She is inspiring and wants us all to look for the best in ourselves and we owe that much to her. From all her quotes that continue to show us how...

We can pinpoint the dawn of our civilization. It didn’t come in ancient Egypt or Babylon. It didn’t even occur in classical Greece, although Athens gave us an edge. We became civilized on the day, 2,000 years ago, when an itinerant rabbi named Jesus stopped a mob from stoning a woman to death. When Jesus said, “Let he who is without sin cast the first stone,” we began to acknowledge the moral equality of girls and women to men. And so began the greatest revolution in human history: the long transition of females from male property to achieving legal and...

Pope Francis on Thursday told Vatican officials to start appointing women and lay people to top jobs in the Curia, the Holy See bureaucracy that he is seeking to shake up. In his latest broadside against resistance to change in the Catholic Church’s corridors of power, the 80-year-old pontiff warned that the reform process he launched in 2013 had to lead to more than a cosmetic “facelift” or plastic surgery to remove wrinkles. “Dear brothers, it’s not the wrinkles in the church that you should fear, but the stains!” Francis said in his Christmas speech to senior Curia officials. The...

This opinion piece is by the Rev. Ruth Everhart, a pastor and the author of two spiritual memoirs.

Church culture tends to be fixated on sexual purity year-round, but during Advent, I'm tempted to blame it on the Virgin Mary. After all, she set an impossibly high bar. Now the rest of us are stuck trying to be both a virgin and a mother at the same time. It does not seem to matter that this is biologically impossible. Can you at least try?

This is the horrifying moment a thug kicks a woman in the back, sending her flying eight steps down a flight of stairs and landing on her face at the bottom. CCTV shows the young woman walking through the metro station in Berlin when the man comes up behind her, holding a beer in one hand and a cigarette in the other. The yob, dressed in jeans and a leather jacket, aims a targeted kick at her back, toppling her down the stairs, and then walks away.

DEAR man on the street, I’m writing to ask for your help. As a female runner, I am constantly aware of my safety when I’m out on an evening run. What is behind me? Do I hear anything strange? Why is that man running towards me? What is making those bushes rustle? And I am always home before dark. Author Margaret Atwood said, “Men are afraid women will laugh at them. Women are afraid men will kill them.” You may think that’s hyperbole, but I promise you, it’s not. Every woman I know has been in a situation at least...

Although Clinton didn’t end up becoming the first woman president of the United States, she broke a major barrier by becoming the first presidential nominee of a major party. She did so by putting women at the center of her platform, offering progressive policies like enacting paid family leave, raising the minimum wage, and fighting for reproductive rights.

Angela Merkel has called for a burka ban after saying the 'full veil is not appropriate' in Germany, it has emerged. In an astonishing U-turn, the German chancellor told her conservative CDU party conference that wearing the burka should be outlawed 'wherever that is legally possible'. It comes after the 62-year-old stressed her determination to ensure there is no repeat of last year's huge migrant influx as she seeks a fourth term as chancellor.

Dear Sugars, My husband has a life that many people who are "rule-followers," like me, would envy. When I first met him, it was undeniably a passionate love affair. I'd never dated anyone or known anyone like him before. He took risks, lived all over the world, had many passions and has been a loyal friend. He's seven years older than I am, and we met at work, where his power and seniority at the office was insanely attractive to me. The year we got married, he wanted to take a risk and go back to graduate school to find...

A teenage Afghan asylum seeker has been arrested in Germany for the rape and murder of the 19-year-old daughter of a senior EU official. Medical student Maria Ladenburger, who volunteered at a refugee home in her spare time, was found dead in the university city of Freiburg, near the border with Switzerland in mid October. Her father is Dr. Clemens Ladenburger, a lawyer who works as the right hand man to the legal director of the European Commission.

Three years ago I attended the Conservative Political Action Conference and was struck by something I later concluded was probably a figment of my imagination. This year I returned, and, rather than having my recollection dispelled, it was confirmed. The young women who attend CPAC are spectacular. No kidding: What’s up with this concentration of incredibly attractive young, conservative women? It’s noticeable and remarkable. They are beautiful and stylish in the way French women often are, which is to say in their own way, not in a conforming or predictable way. They all look like the girl the high school...

The leadership of the Democratic Party, at the highest levels, has consisted of mostly White men and women and a handful of Latinos. What Democratic leadership in the United States Congress, Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) and the Democratic National Committee (DNC) doesn’t have — and has never had — is a representative from its most loyal voting bloc over the last three presidential elections: Black women. To say that all quarters of Democratic Party leadership is in need of change is a vast understatement. The numbers don’t lie. The Democratic Party has lost a historic number of seats across...

As Donald Trump's Cabinet begins to take shape, the President-elect has selected three women of color so far to serve in top positions in his administration, including South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, who was a sharp critic of Trump during the 2016 Republican primary campaign. While Trump's selections have predominantly been white males, the President-elect has selected three women who are children of immigrants as he assembles his administration.

The American division of Graduate Women International (GWI) may find itself in the odd position of channeling Donald Trump. “On this International Day to Eliminate Violence Against Women (VAW), Graduate Women International (GWI) voices concern and raises awareness about the ongoing battle women internationally face against physical, sexual, and psychological violence every day,” reads an advance press release from GWI for November 25, 2016. “GWI calls for implementation of stronger legislation that will protect women from all forms of violence. Women across the globe are subjected to violence in many different forms including forced marriage, domestic abuse, female genital mutilation...

The Anthony trial of 1873 helped answer the important question of whether women as "citizens" under the recently adopted Fourteenth Amendment were entitled, as one of the "privileges and immunities" that came with citizenship, to vote. The answer given by prim and conservative Justice Ward Hunt will surprise few, but the trial also shows Hunt with his hands full, not quite knowing how to shut up his feisty defendant. Read now about what "Aunt Susan" described in her diary as "the greatest outrage in judicial history!"

BEGIN TRANSCRIPT RUSH: "Donald Trump has chosen charter school advocate Betsy DeVos as his secretary of education." A charter school advocate! This is gonna cause heads to explode in every teachers union building and bunker that there is. Holy smokes, this is big! Betsy DeVos! You know the DeVos family. Staunch conservatives, Rich DeVos, Amway, owns the Orlando Magic. Great, great, great guy. This woman becomes the second woman chosen to fill a spot in Trump's cabinet. Nikki Haley, South Carolina governor, is now the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations. That's a good pick. Yeah, Haley is a good...

When it comes to warring monkeys, females wield the real power. A study has found that female vervet monkeys manipulate males into fighting battles by lavishing attention on brave soldiers while giving other males the cold shoulder. After scraps with rival gangs, usually over food, females would groom males that had fought hardest, while snapping at those that abstained.
