Pope: Give women, lay people top Vatican jobs

Pope Francis on Thursday told Vatican officials to start appointing women and lay people to top jobs in the Curia, the Holy See bureaucracy that he is seeking to shake up.

In his latest broadside against resistance to change in the Catholic Church’s corridors of power, the 80-year-old pontiff warned that the reform process he launched in 2013 had to lead to more than a cosmetic “facelift” or plastic surgery to remove wrinkles.

“Dear brothers, it’s not the wrinkles in the church that you should fear, but the stains!” Francis said in his Christmas speech to senior Curia officials.

The blistering tone will have come as no surprise to the assembled staff. In 2014 he described some of them as hypocritical, status-obsessed careerists who were suffering from “spiritual Alzheimer’s”. …

If they are the kinds of people like him, no thanky.

Blacks and Muslims, too.

The Church should look like the World.

I wonder why he has not had a contract out on him by this point. The man is clearly an idiot. I wonder why they elected him? Soros bribe?

What I meant by Post 2, was, it sounds as if he wants to institute a quota system. How often have we heard “looks like America” as a prime selection criteria rather than experience or merit?

"Dear brothers, it's not the wrinkles in the church that you should fear, but the stains!"

So the fact that women and lay people haven't had top Vatican jobs in the 2,000 year history of the Catholic Church is a "stain"?

If they can do the job, then why not? These are positions for Lay People, men or women. But don’t get like parts of Europe and actually have a gender quota based on ratios.

Amazing to consider that the 1980s had John Paul II and Ronald Reagan. The 2000 teens feature Francis and Obama.

How is it the job of lay people uninstructed in doctrine to decide Church matters, never mind women with the Biblical prohibition?

It is HOW he got elected that worries me.

Why he was elected is easy. Marxists and Liberation Theology communists wanted a mule for their over throw of the Catholic Church. Satan has been after it since the beginning.

It’s looking like the Age of Giants. JPII, Reagan, Thatcher, Walesa.

We’re coming through the Age of Midgets. Francis, Obama, Merkel. And Dubya was no prize, unless you were a Mexican illegal or an ROP looking for an American beachhead.

With any luck Trump will be a return to greatness.

how come Francis just doesn’t become a Methodist or a Unitarian? Of course he sorta is already, with a healthy dose of Marx for added flavor.

As a Protestant I’d prefer to see Catholics with a Pope who defended the faith instead of doing an Obama style inside job to it.

When can we get a replacement for the highest of Vatican jobs?

Here, here. I’ve got my theological differences with the Catholic Church, but this is just corrupt. Pitiful and corrupt. Get him out of there, replace him with a defender of the Catholic faith. Francis has no business leading anything, certainly not a church and certainly not the Catholic Church. He cares about progressivism and Marx. He twists the Bible. He’s a ringer, he’s not even Christian in my opinion.

Yep. We can survive our intramural theological debates, but we have a common and dangerous enemy in Islam and Leftism-as-religion. We need the Catholic church as an ally.

And it sure looks like Francis is playing for the other team, much like Obama has been doing in the world of politics.
