From the article:

Sarah McBride, the national press secretary for the Human Rights Campaign, has been out as transgender since she was 21. She made history in 2012 when she became the first out trans woman to work at the White House, where she interned with the Office of Public Engagement. She again made history at the DNC in 2016 when she became the first out transgender individual to speak at a major party convention. McBride celebrated the Supreme Court’s marriage equality ruling but said that the LGBTQ community is still fighting to gain equal rights. She asked: "Will we be a nation where there is only one way to love, only one way to look, and only one way to live?"

This is a dude with his pecker chopped off, wearing a dress. Right?

Those reasons are why she lost. Artificially is bad in so many ways.
Not least it’s totally unfair to semi-skilled, skilled, folks who made the effort to get what no skilled knuckleheads want because they can breath?

She did so by putting women at the center of her platform, offering progressive policies like enacting paid family leave, raising the minimum wage, and fighting for reproductive rights.

And seeing that none of that was going to work, she had the female head of the DNC rig the primaries against the septuagenarian socialist man who otherwise was kicking her feminist fat caboose from one state to the other.

The best moment for women was when the Washington Compost's state by state prediction map turned out to be wildly inaccurate. The best thing for women is to be judged as people and not just selected to be the "first woman" in whatever position. Being judged as a person is as good as it gets.
