On Thursday, March 6th, 2014, we attempted something that hasn’t been done for 40 years: to hike the treacherous ice across the Manitou Passage to the islands 8 miles out... (click the link for commentary and photos of a bold day of hiking)

    Warning Signs ^ | March 9, 2014 | Alan Caruba
The nation seems to be passing through a period in which too many U.S. Senators have been elected without so much as a high school level understanding of what drives the Earth’s climate and it isn’t the 0.038% of carbon dioxide (CO2) in the atmosphere. On Monday, March 10, some twenty of them will stay up overnight on the Senate floor, according to The Hill, “to bring attention to the impacts of climate change.” You don’t get more idiotic than that. Climate, measured in decades and centuries, is always in a state of change. Meanwhile, the weather anywhere in the...

  • LIBERAL LIES ABOUT “GLOBAL WARMING” PUT A FACE ON NOAA WEATHER FORECASTERS

Every so often the faceless liberal lie machine is forced to reveal itself and a real person or organization has to stand by the fabricated “science” of the Al Gores of the world. The Climate Prediction Center of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has been forced into the sunlight and it has been made to look foolish because it believes Gore and his “climate change” charlatans. NOAA’s prediction for November through January was that most of the continental United States would enjoy above normal temperatures. Why would they say otherwise when there is only emotion instead of science...

MyNorth vidoegrapher Kris Riley trekked a third of a mile to video the two-story high Lake Michigan ice caves off the coast of Leelanau County in Northern Michigan, north of the town of Leland. For days, crowds of awe-struck people have flocked to the shore to explore these magnificent natural formations that tower and arch in rugged glory after one of the coldest, stormiest winters in decades. If you aren’t one of the thousands who have slipped and slid out to this once-in-a-lifetime phenomena, you will want to see this video. And if you did make your way out there,...

One can figure out that the "science" of climate change has fallen on hard times when its chief defenders are not actual scientists, but rather a pair of comedians, Bill Maher and Bill Nye the former "science guy," according to Politico. Of course a third comedian, albeit an amateur one, is also flogging the idea. John Kerry is comparing "climate change" to the threat of WMDs. When one considers that controversy that ensued when the coalition forces that liberated Iraq failed to find much evidence of WMDs, it was perhaps an unfortunate analogy.

ABSTRACT The Report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change released in September 2013 continues the pattern of previous ones raising alarm about a warming earth due to anthropogenic greenhouse gases. This paper identifies six problems with this conclusion – the mismatch of the model predictions with the temperature observations, the assumption of positive feedback, possible solar effects, the use of a global temperature, chaos in climate, and the rejection of any skepticism.

In another silly pseudo-science rambling, the President’s science advisor, John Holdren, has recently stated, “Weather practically everywhere is being caused by climate change.” Drought in California. Record snows in the East. It’s tempting for many to blame it all on our use of fossil fuels. What Causes Weather? Let’s start with the basics. Weather is caused by energy imbalances, primarily (1) between the solar heated surface of the Earth and the atmosphere above it, and (2) between different geographic regions (e.g. the tropics vs. high latitudes; the warm oceans versus cold continents in winter). These energy imbalances have associated temperature...

A few years ago a friend who wishes to remain nameless suggested that it was about time I started writing a blog. "Why would I want to do that?" I said. "Because it's the future and you'd be good at it," he said. So I gave it a go and I've been here ever since. But not for any longer I'm afraid. Today is the sad day when I must bid you all farewell. I have been appointed Chief Sustainability Consultant at the Department of Energy and Climate Change, working directly to one of my all-time- heroes Ed Davey, with...

Basic premise of this paper: 1. let’s take fish out of their natural ocean environment, 2. put ‘em in a tank where they are stressed, 3. crank up the temperature, 4. see if any fish die, 5. count dead fish, 6. assume natural adaptation is impossible 7. report news of future doom to the world via press release. Via Eurekalert: According to an international team of researchers, the rapid pace of climate change is threatening the future presence of fish near the equator. “Our studies found that one species of fish could not even survive in water just three degrees...

The United States set over 4,000 record low temperatures during the past year, while the artic ice cap has grown by 30% and is now larger than it was in 1990. Ironically, while accepting his Nobel "Pina Colada" Prize in 2007, Al Gore claimed the North Pole would be "ice free" by 2013. Amazingly, he was only off by 920,000 square miles! Apparently Santa Claus burned the memo and bought another diesel Zamboni. Not only does Al suck at climatology, he really sucks at data sets; aka, empirical prognostications. Science fiction theater is a major, no? That's right, kiddies, Global...

Reading what went on in Atlanta this week is just amazing! I moved to Florida after living near Chicago and the lake snow region of NW Indiana most of my life. We had to deal with bad ice storms in Southern Illinois when I was young and while at the University of Illinois in Champaign. Three inches of snow in Chicago is NOTHING. They got rid of a mayor that didn’t get and keep the roads open. I had to teach in Chicago Heights, IL when the temperature was -48 and the wind chill was -82. As I recall, I...

Global warming is an evil scourge that has played havoc across the US recently. Temperatures in my home state of Florida have plunged with the latest cold snap, forcing me to turn on my home's heater to combat the insidious freezing power of global warming. As cold as it has gotten in Florida, other parts of the South were harder hit. In Alabama, thousands of students were trapped in their schools and forced to stay overnight. The biggest spectacle took place in Atlanta, Georgia, where roads shut down as thousands of drivers were stranded. It was like watching a scene...

I thought that my anger over the media's misuse of the term, polar vortex, during the first week of January (2014) had subsided until I heard references this week to a "piece of the polar vortex breaking away" and bringing the current siege of cold weather to the eastern half of the contiguous states. In the words of the late actor, Peter Finch, from his Oscar-winning performance in the film, Network, "I'm mad as hell, and I'm not going to take it any more" (YouTube clip of his acclaimed rant). What is the polar vortex? For the record, the polar vortex...

The UES wasn’t the only area in Manhattan that wasn’t plowed; in fact, as of 4:00 p.m. yesterday, it is KNOWN that most of the area shown in red in the following map was NOT plowed – not even once: http://project.wnyc.org/election2013/ The traffic on all major avenues in the red area was pretty much at standstill. Now, in fairness, I don’t know if all of the areas in green was plowed but someone ought to know. If the UES wasn’t plowed when, for instance, the UWS was, it’d seem that Kaiser Wilhelm II wasn’t going after just the 1 percenters...
