Since January 2017, low levels of radioactive Iodine-131 contamination have been detected over various European countries. Highest levels have been detected in Poland. The radioactive particles were first detected in Finland. Source is anyone's guess, but the initial area of detection and area of highest concentration point to Russia. I disagree with the blog's conclusion that this is likely to be a nuclear test since I-131 has a short half-life of 8 days. More likely, there's an ongoing issue with a Russian nuclear reactor. (Doesn't have to be a power station - could be a sub or other naval reactor.)

The Obama administration on Friday afternoon announced that it has designated the country’s election infrastructure as ‘critical,’ a move that brings added federal protections to voting systems. “Given the vital role elections play in this country, it is clear that certain systems and assets of election infrastructure meet the definition of critical infrastructure, in fact and in law,” Secretary of Homeland Security Jeh Johnson said in a statement. Iowa Secretary of State Paul Pate is asking legislators to quickly approve a bill that would require voters to show some form of identification before casting a ballot. “This bill will make it difficult to cheat the system,” Pate says. One out of every 266 voters participating in Michigan's Nov. 8, 2016, general election did not have a photo ID, according to the state elections bureau. Of the 4,874,619 votes cast in the state, 18,339 individuals signed the affidavit of identity required of individuals who want to vote without a picture ID. Nearly one-third of those affidavits — 5,834 — were signed in the city of Detroit. Other cities with a high number of affidavits included Grand Rapids (535) and Southfield (463). The Michigan House Election Committee chaired by Rep. Lisa Lyons, R-Alto, advanced a last-minute bill Thursday that she says will strengthen ballot security but opponents claim will suppress voting. Lyons introduced the bill just two days earlier to revise the current system for individuals voting without a photo ID. It is unusual for legislators to bring new bills up for consideration with just weeks remaining in the session.
