SAN FRANCISCO (KPIX) – One day after President Trump issued his first veto, Democrats vowed to override it. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi was in San Francisco Saturday talking with members of the women’s organization, The Wing. Speaker Pelosi told KPIX 5 she’s going call for an override vote on March 26, even if they don’t have the supermajority needed to overturn the veto. She said it’s a matter of putting everyone on record.

Lawmakers who voted last week to block President Donald Trump’s declaration of a national emergency along the U.S.-Mexico border will have a tough legal hurdle to overcome after a Friday statement by Attorney General William Barr. Following Congress’ rejection of the president’s declaration, POTUS issued his first veto on Friday, claiming authority under the law to make the designation. “Today I am vetoing this resolution. Congress has the freedom to pass this resolution, and I have the duty to veto it,” the president said. Barr, who has a stellar reputation among members of both parties, issued a strong statement in...

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi says President Donald Trump's veto of legislation blocking the national emergency he's declared at the Mexican border shows he's defying "the Constitution, the Congress and the will of the American people." The California Democrat says the House will vote March 26 on overriding Trump's veto. The chamber seems certain to fall short of the two-thirds majority needed to succeed. That means his emergency declaration would survive, but it still faces several legal challenges....

President Trump’s veto Friday of a resolution blocking his declaration of a national emergency on the U.S.-Mexico border showed that he understands he wasn’t elected to appease career politicians in the Senate. He was elected, in part, to secure the southern border and protect American lives. Despite 12 Republican defections in Thursday’s vote to overturn his declaration of a national emergency, the president is standing firm on his promise to build a wall and secure the border.

(CNSNews.com) - Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D.-N.Y) said on the Senate floor on Thursday that he was praying that Republican members of the Senate would “choose country over party” and vote to overrule President Donald Trump’s declaration that there is a national emergency at the southern border. “I hope and I pray that this moment is one of those times when Members choose country over party and when Members rise above politics for the sake of fidelity to our constitutional principles and to this great United States of America,” Schumer said. “In conclusion, on this issue, this is not...

Below is the text of the message he sent to Congress: To the House of Representatives: I am returning herewith without my approval H.J. Res. 46, a joint resolution that would terminate the national emergency I declared regarding the crisis on our southern border in Proclamation 9844 on February 15, 2019, pursuant to the National Emergencies Act. As demonstrated by recent statistics published by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and explained in testimony given by the Secretary of Homeland Security on March 6, 2019, before the House Committee...

Sen. Tammy Duckworth, Illinois Democrat, on Sunday said she believes there are enough votes in the Senate to pass a resolution disapproving of President Trump’s recent emergency declaration the White House says will allow him to tap unspent money to construct a border wall. “I think we do,” Ms. Duckworth said on ABC’s “This Week.” “Now, whether we have enough for an override and veto, that’s a different story.” “But frankly, I think there’s enough people in the Senate who are concerned that what he’s doing is robbing from the military and the [Defense Department] to go build this wall,”...

A top adviser to President Donald Trump indicated Sunday that Trump is prepared to issue the first veto of his term if Congress votes to disapprove of his declaration of a national emergency along the U.S.-Mexico border. White House senior adviser Stephen Miller told “Fox News Sunday” that “the president is going to protect his national emergency declaration.” Asked if that meant Trump was ready to veto, Miller added, “He’s going to protect his national emergency declaration, guaranteed.” Trump declared the emergency Friday in an effort to go around Congress to fund his border wall. It would allow him to...

By the time many read this the bill before Trump to fund the government will have either been signed or vetoes. I say VETO the spending bill President Trump. We either get the wall from a proper congressional spending bill or he should shut down the government. Besides, why allow Congress to spend $4 trillion for 1 year. That is reason enough to veto the bill. Consider the thought of $24 trillion spent by 2024 if Trump gets re-elected in 2020. Hell, at this rate the next President will spend over $10 trillion a year, then by 2034, they will...

I could use a little help here from some of our Constitutional Scholars. When President Trump signed a Continuing Resolution yesterday for another 21 days for budgeting the entire Federal Government, did he do so willingly or was his decision forced upon him? I believe the President has the can return the Bill to Congress, with comments as to why he won't sign it. (VETO) Has to happen within 10 days excluding Sundays. To sustain his VETO it takes a 2/3's vote from both houses (Representatives and Senate). Otherwise the VETO is over-ridden and the bill becomes law. Here comes...

The Ohio legislature has passed an override of Governor Kasich' veto of HB 228. There are several major reforms in Ohio's HB 228. One provision is to strengthen Ohio's preemption statute. Ohio, as with most states, has a law that reserves statutory authority about firearms to the legislature. Local governments and regulatory bodies are not allowed to make a crazy quilt of ordinances and regulations to prevent the exercise of Second Amendment rights in the State.Local governments refused to repeal ordinances that infringed on second amendment rights, producing a chilling effect on the exercise of those rights. A provision...

RALEIGH, N.C. - North Carolina voters will be asked to show photo identification when they go to the polls next year, barring intervention by a court. The Republican-led Legislature took the final step to shrug off Democratic Gov. Roy Cooper's veto of its photo ID bill, with the House voting 72-40 Wednesday to override after a long debate that touched on the state's history of voter suppression. The state Senate took its override vote Tuesday. Minutes after the House vote, the Southern Coalition for Social Justice announced that a lawsuit challenging the voter ID law had been filed in Wake...

“They don’t even tell you – what does that mean, ‘the government shut down’? First of all, that phrase is a lie; the government doesn’t shut down. You’ll be long dead – your children and your grandchildren too – before this government shuts down, unless it shuts down from a financial and economic collapse. But, legally? No. “‘Seventy-five percent of the government[’s] already been funded’ – are you aware of this? – as they point out at CNSNews.com. “He signed a minibus appropriations bill – the president did – ‘that funded the Department of Energy; Military Construction [and] Veterans Affairs;...
