When the histories of the Trump era are written from exile in Justin Trudeau’s Canada, they will record that it was none other than Jimmy Fallon who brought down the republic. Or so you might have thought, at least, listening the furious liberal reaction to Fallon’s willingness to treat Trump like any other late-night guest last week: kidding around with him, mussing up his combover and steering clear of anything that would convey to late-night television viewers that Trump is actually beyond the pale.

Someone raised an interesting point a few days ago. During the regular season, the anthem is not shown and now it is. Who controls what is seen from a game and what is not? My friend says the network because it is their system which is airing it and is ultimately responsible for what is aired. I thought all the content was the property of the NFL and couldn't be used, aired, transmitted, or retransmitted without their permission? Who is responsible? It is sort of like when the Klan marches; if no one shows for the parade, what's the point?...

Drew Pinsky’s six-year-old HLN show, “Dr. Drew On Call,” has been canceled by CNN, effective Sept. 22. CNN Money, in its reporting of the announcement, connected it to a broader shakeup at HLN, including the end of Nancy Grace’s flamboyant show devoted to criminal court cases. But the decision came eight days after Pinsky’s comments on a radio show on Aug. 17 questioning the health and medical care of former secretary of state Hillary Clinton, the Democratic nominee for president. After looking at bits and pieces of Clinton’s health-care records she made public in 2015, he said he was “gravely...

Garry Marshall, ‘Pretty Woman’ Director, Dies at 81 If one were to count up the number of times any American — or maybe anyone anywhere — laughed in the last half-century, the person responsible for more of those laughs than anyone else might well be Garry Marshall, who died on Tuesday in Burbank, Calif. Season 1 of The Jim Gaffigan Show opened with some surprisingly insightful commentary on faith and the way it’s portrayed in the media. The comedian, known for family-friendly bits about fast food (peppered with a self-criticizing falsetto), is as different from a Louis CK in terms of content as possible. Yet the tone of his autobiographical show was more Louie than sitcom, tinged with a wry realism with flashes of full-on satire.
