ABC 2015-16 Season Ratings (updated 6/29/16)

Only three returning ABC TV shows were up in the ratings last season and many new series were cancelled. How will the alphabet network perform this time around? Stay tuned!

There’s lots of data that network execs looks at when deciding whether to renew or cancel a TV series but ratings are the major ingredient. These charts will be updated daily, as new ratings data becomes available.

ABC shows (so far): $100,000 Pyramid, 20/20, 20/20: In an Instant, 500 Questions, American Crime, The Bachelor, Bachelor Live, The Bachelorette, BattleBots, Beyond The Tank, Black-ish, Blood & Oil, Castle, The Catch, Celebrity Family Feud, Dancing With The Stars, Dr. Ken, The Family, Fresh Off The Boat, Galavant, The Goldbergs, The Great Christmas Light Fight, The Great Holiday Baking Show, Grey’s Anatomy, How To Get Away With Murder, Last Man Standing, Marvel’s Agent Carter, Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD, Match Game, The Middle, Mistresses, Modern Family, The Muppets, My Diet Is Better Than Yours, Nashville, Of Kings and Prophets, Once Upon A Time, Primetime: What Would You Do?, Quantico, The Real O’Neals, Scandal, Shark Tank, To Tell The Truth, Uncle Buck, What Would You Do? and Wicked City.

Note: If you’re not seeing the updated charts, please try reloading the page. You can also view them here and here.

A couple of notes about these charts: These figures are updated automatically as new ratings are released. The averages are based on the final national numbers (live plus same day viewing), unless marked with an asterisk (*). For technical reasons, I have to resort them manually so feel free to let me know if I missed something.

Keep in mind that the demo numbers are typically what’s most important to advertisers. Therefore, that’s how the networks measure success. Advertisers pay more for ad time on a show that has a higher demo rating. Because older viewers don’t count? No, it’s because younger viewers watch less traditional TV and are harder to reach.

Demo numbers are typically reported using the 10ths decimal place (2.4, for example). In the averages, I’m using an extra decimal for easier ranking.

The networks take into account when shows air on Fridays and Saturdays, nights when TV viewership is lower.

Last Man Standing is a great show, it’s not part of the gay agenda and it’s doing well.

Who even watches the networks? They’re all better off just running infomercials 24 hours a day.

Last Man Standing is a great show
Just discovered it a few weeks ago. Love Tim Allen and his anti looney-left remarks make me laugh out loud.
CMT channel does reruns (6pm-9pm).

If you go to the link and look at the charts, viewership is way down over last season. Some shows were kept even with ratings down..........................

The new trend is no longer 22-26 episode per season shows on over-air networks. It's 9-12 episode per season shows with much higher production values and less censorship (Breaking Bad, Orange is the new Black, Game of Thrones, House of Cards, and so on). Indeed, movie stars are now participating in these new series because it gives them lots of work and a very nice income. Indeed, AMC made itself prominent because of the success of this type of TV series.

It also makes it difficult to maintain any sense of continuity when an episodic series takes a 6-month break in the middle of the narrative. It’s hard to recapture some of the subtleties.

Hence the reason why the 9-12 episode per season drama series either released in 9=12 weeks (or all at a time with Netflix or Amazon Prime Video) with higher production values is the new norm.

The only ones I occasionally watch are Castle, Last Man Standing and The Middle and then only in syndication. They’ve already cancelled Castle so it’s not coming back. Haven’t heard of the majority.
