The climate-change documentary “Time To Choose” makes the disaster movie “The Day After Tomorrow” look like a model of judiciousness and restraint. Charles Ferguson’s alarmist manifesto, narrated by Oscar Isaac, makes sci-fi claims such as “Over 600 million people’s homes will be destroyed if the world’s coastlines are flooded.” Yes, and over 7 billion people will be killed if aliens decide to destroy the human race, but that isn’t going to happen either. Among other outlandish claims: Oil causes corruption (er, the world’s first and fifth largest oil producers are the US and Canada), two-thirds of all proven fossil fuel...

It's odd to think that, once upon a time, a TV show set in space -- one that declared, in its opening narration, as the cosmos being the "final frontier" -- was considered the pop-cultural equivalent of an unwanted party-crasher. Yes, a concept like Star Trek was both of its time and clearly ahead of it; history has more than vindicated Gene Roddenberry's notion of boldly going where no man had gone before. But given the number of top-notch shows set in the far reaches of the galaxy and that used genre for pulpy and profound purposes over the last...

The head of the ACLU's Georgia chapter resigned because of President Obama's transgender directive requiring public schools to allow students to use the bathroom of the gender they identify with. Maya Dillard Smith told The Kelly File she took a stand on the issue after witnessing three transgender young adults over six feet tall with deep voices enter a women's restroom, which frightened her elementary school age daughters. She said the ACLU didn't provide "the opportunity for robust discourse on the competing civil rights" of LGBT equality and religious freedom. Smith, a Democrat, said she is open-minded about the issue...

Comedian Sarah Silverman appears to be on some sort of sick mission to convince Americans that aborting an unborn baby is funny. This week, however, her raunchy comedy routine backfired. Page Six reports Silverman told some “considerably dirty and outrageous” jokes during a recent charity event for children in New York City. Young students were in the audience when Silverman joked about abortion, sexual assault, semen and sex with her boyfriend, according to the report. The charity event benefited the ArtsConnection, which promotes art education in public schools. In addition to Silverman, children from city middle and high schools also...

I vividly recall the original iteration of the TV miniseries Roots. It was January 1977, and I was 17. Like most young people that age, my life was rapidly growing independent of my parents, who were increasingly consumed by the vagaries of their workplaces. Yet, when the series debuted, it was must-see TV in the Johnson household. We stopped what we were doing and watched it together and enthusiastically each night. We even cheered during the show, notable since we were often too darned middle class to cheer while watching football games on TV. The miniseries cleaned up during awards...

Until very recently, Teuku Wisnu was known mostly for his role in a humdrum soap opera broadcast by local television channels. Three years ago, Teuku underwent a transformation by appearing less on television and developing the habit of wearing typical Muslim garb and growing his beard long. Soon, he started appearing on television playing a different kind of role, that of a Muslim preacher. Last year, Teuku caused a stir after stating on national television that Muslims should not recite Al Fatiha, the first chapter of the Koran, as a prayer for the dead. This week, the 31-year-old Aceh native...

Heard brought with her photos of her alleged injuries, including one that appears to show her with a large bruise around her eye. That photo was reportedly taken on Saturday after Heard alleges that Depp hit her in the face with his iPhone and then fled when police arrived on the scene according to...
