In November 1944, a young American soldier wrote back to his parents in the Washington Heights neighborhood of Manhattan. Six years earlier, he and his family had fled Germany for the United States, only weeks before Kristallnacht, the infamous Night of Broken Glass. Now here he was, having returned to the place where, had they stayed, he and his family may well have already perished. "So I am back where I wanted to be," the young man wrote. "I think of the cruelty and barbarism those people out there in the ruins showed when they were on top. And then I...

In retrospect, wrote former GOP strategist Tim Miller for The Bulwark, it was inevitable that Republicans would go down this path. "For about a decade and a half now the governing wing of the party has attempted every strategy imaginable to delay handing congressional leadership power to the group of lawmakers who better represent the desires of today’s GOP voters — the erstwhile renegades the late John McCain dubbed 'wacko birds,'" wrote Miller. "That group has grown from only a handful of troublemakers to a significant bloc of Congress that’s bolstered by an additional group of 'closet normals' who dress...

Is the GOP becoming a dysfunctional chatroom? In economics, Gresham’s law on currency markets holds that “bad money drives out good.” That principle also applies to the comment sections on online sites. In comments sections — including such mega-versions like Twitter — the nastiest commenters post more, and more obnoxiously, than the decent ones until, eventually, the decent folk just decide not to hang out anymore. The only remedy for this is comment moderation, where grown-ups in charge try to thwart the trolls lest they lose their more valuable customers. In Tim Miller’s book, “Why We Did It,” the former...

In recent days, out-homosexual Tim Miller wrote a piece at the increasingly odd website known as The Bulwark. Miller was writing about the ongoing Sussmann trial where special prosecutor John Durham is making the case that the Hillary Clinton campaign played a direct role in various hoaxes that enveloped our country and the presidency of Donald J. Trump. Without getting too deep in the weeds, former Clinton adviser Robby Mook testified that Hillary approved the spreading of various lies about a computer connection between the Trump campaign and something called the Alfa Bank in Moscow. This was misinformation peddled by...

Be very afraid. So Donald Trump is now the odds-on favorite to be president of the United States in 2025. I know that lede sentence was also the headline, but I wanted you to read it one more time just to let it really settle in the ol’ noggin before pressing forward. The twice-impeached, disgraced loser who was schlonged in the 2020 election, tried to stay in power against the will of the people, and then came ten cowardly Republican senators away from being disqualified from ever running for office again, is now more likely than any other person in...

Tim Miller is a Republican campaign operative who has worked for leading Republican politicians. Now he’s co-leading an organization to get party members to vote against Donald Trump. DW asked him about his motivation. […] Deutsche Welle: Who did you vote for in the general presidential election in 2016? Tim Miller: I decided the last week to vote for Hillary [Clinton, the Democratic candidate]. I was initially persuaded by the argument that maybe there should be a third-party candidate. But I determined that Donald Trump was just too great of a threat to the country to cast a throwaway vote...

The only trend to be seen is in the amount of these articles. Over the weekend The Washington Post had a lengthy piece on the alleged surge of Republican groups that are emerging to oppose President Trump and back Joe Biden. If they are to be believed, The Never-Trump Movement Becomes a Campaign Force, but in order to be believed you need to overlook a reality; these are many of the same names we are already familiar with in this "movement".The piece opens by highlighting a video, uploaded by a disenfranchised Trump voter who declares he is so fed up with...

Human remains were found Tuesday during the search for a missing soldier stationed at Fort Hood in Texas, Army officials told CNN. Vanessa Guillen, 20, has been missing since April. She was last seen in the parking lot of her barracks at the post on April 22, according to the US Army Criminal Investigation Command. Investigators had "returned to an area of interest close to the Leon River, Bell County, Texas, for more investigative work" and discovered partial human remains, the Army CID said. Authorities said the identity of the remains have not been confirmed. The remains were found in...

Talk about complete concept rejection. Skydance, Fox and Paramount's Terminator: Dark Fate reboot — hoping to revive the franchise after three failed attempts — bombed in its domestic box office debut with $29 million from 4,086 theaters, well behind expectations. Not even the return of James Cameron in the producer's chair and original series stars Linda Hamilton and Arnold Schwarzenegger could spark interest among many fans and the general moviegoing public. Nor is the movie likely to be rescued by the foreign box office, where it finished Sunday with a foreign tally of $94.6 million, including a lackluster China debut...

Jeb Bush on Monday joined growing Republicans calls for Alabama GOP Senate candidate Roy Moore to step down after Moore allegedly had a sexual encounter with a minor. “This is not a question of innocence or guilt like in a criminal proceeding, this is a question of what’s right and what’s wrong. Acknowledging that you’re dating teenagers when you’re 32 years old as assistant state attorney is wrong. It’s just plain wrong,” the former Republican presidential candidate and Florida governor said during an interview on CNBC. “We need to stand for basic principles, and decency has to be one of...

Former Vice President Joe Biden was caught on camera calling a tracker for America Rising a “real prick” on Monday. In a short video posted to Youtube by America Rising PAC, Biden looks right at the camera and says, “you’re a real prick.” A woman in a white t-shirt near Biden appears to be trying to cover the tracker’s camera with her hand.

Former staffers to Jeb Bush's suspended presidential campaign on Friday tore into Chris Christie for endorsing GOP presidential front-runner Donald Trump. Former Bush communications director Tim Miller called Christie "pathetic" and suggested he bonded with Trump over a "big meal," an apparent reference to Christie's weight. And former chief strategist David Kochel compared the endorsement to a "fat kid" surrendering his lunch money to a "bully."

Exclusive — After Jeb Accuses Trump Of Saying ‘Not True’ Things About Him, Bush Campaign Can’t Find a Single Example The senior presidential campaign staff of former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush—including his campaign manager—can’t manage to point to a single thing billionaire and GOP frontrunner Donald Trump has said about Bush that is untrue. This development comes after Bush attacked Trump in Spanish in Miami. According to an English translation, Bush accused Trump of daily saying “not true” things about him—thing he called “barbarities.” “He attacks me every day. He attacks me every day with barbarities. They’re not true,” Bush...
