While Olbermann has managed once again to shove egg in his own face for doing exactly what he criticizes others for doing, I find the circumstances surrounding his recent suspension intriguing. Does the policy at MSNBC actually prove the lengths in which they will go to support Democrats over Republicans? Is MSNBC so universally known for its left-leaning bias that it is simply trying to save face? Or is it something else altogether?

NEW YORK -- The NFL could soon start suspending players for dangerous helmet-to-helment hits, vice president of football operations Ray Anderson told The Associated Press on Monday. A day after several scary collisions in Sunday's games, Anderson acknowledged the league might need to do more than fining players to prevent such hits. "There's strong testimonial for looking readily at evaluating discipline, especially in the areas of egregious and elevated dangerous hits," he said in a phone interview. "Going forward there are certain hits that occurred that will be more susceptible to suspension. There are some that could bring suspensions for...

Sacramento - Republican gubernatorial candidate Meg Whitman said Wednesday that she probably will vote against a November ballot initiative that would suspend AB32, California's landmark greenhouse gas reduction law. Whitman, appearing on the conservative John and Ken radio show on KFI in Southern California, said, "In all likelihood I will vote no on Prop. 23," adding that she still backs a one-year moratorium that she would impose if elected. Proposition 23 would suspend AB32 until unemployment drops to 5.5 percent or lower for a year. Whitman had been pressed on the issue but had not stated her position on the...

Matthew Whalen's suspension will stand. On Wednesday night, the Lansingburgh Central School District board of education rejected Whalen's appeal of the punishment and decided not to expunge the blemish on the record of the Eagle Scout suspended for having a pocketknife in his car while the vehicle was on the grounds of Lansingburgh High School. Whalen received a 20-day suspension in September after he turned over to school administrators a 1 1/2-inch knife that he kept in his glove box as part of a car survival kit. Apparently they also believe that someone should be punished for it. So after a 2nd grade teacher asked student’s in class to sketch something that reminded them of Christmas one little 8-year-old boy responded by sketching a picture of Jesus’ death on the Cross as what he was reminded of when he thought of Christmas. Dubai’s once-booming economy has deflated and its property sector, with its ludicrous architecture and record-breaking buildings, has collapsed. Romero said he went to the store to look for a supplement in July, the time of year he typically starts weight training again. He went to the shelf where his usual supplement was stocked and noticed a new product, 6-OXO Extreme, next to it. Because the familiar supplement required him to take eight large pills a day, he was intrigued by the other product. The Major League Baseball Players' Association has told players that supplements purchased in U.S. retail stores should be safe and within the guidelines of baseball's drug-testing program. The union acknowledged giving that advice in a...

After John McCain's bold decision to suspend his campaign, he has stunningly erased a three-point lead and now is tied with Barack Obama at 46-46 in Thursday's Gallup Poll. The poll included interviews taken on Wednesday -- when McCain said he would fly to Washington to work on the bailout bill, suspend his presidential quest and possibly not appear at Friday's scheduled debate. Those were bold decisions, and maybe Americans appreciated them. On the other hand, the Gallup pollsters point out that McCain has been gaining on Obama for days. And interviews on Wednesday did not show any dramatic shift...

That’s my call for now. And at one point I thought this was going to be a boring election year. What a day, let me summarize the reactions. Lefties: It’s a cynical stunt Righties: It’s a cynical stunt… that happens to be in the best interest of the country as a whole. Independents/undecided: ??? - we have no idea how this will play out. I think the move was smart because it works on so many levels. level 1: Politically, McCain makes a move that can easily be seen as putting country first over politics. Even acknowledging that it’s cynical,...

“In my mind, it’s more important than ever that we present ourselves to the American people and describe where we want to take the country and where we want to take the economy,” said the Democratic candidate for the Presidency, Senator Barack Obama. The statement was given in response to Senator John McCain’s surprising announcement that he had suspended his campaign to focus on the looming financial crisis in America by returning to Washington to help craft and pass emergency legislation. McCain had invited his opponent to join him in returning to Washington to deal with the crisis. He also...

“America this week faces an historic crisis in our financial system. We must pass legislation to address this crisis. If we do not, credit will dry up, with devastating consequences for our economy. People will no longer be able to buy homes and their life savings will be at stake. Businesses will not have enough money to pay their employees. If we do not act, ever corner of our country will be impacted. We cannot allow this to happen. “Last Friday, I laid out my proposal and I have since discussed my priorities and concerns with the bill the Administration...

Saving the Banana Boys by: Deborah Lambert, June 03, 2008 Some creative high-school seniors at Zion-Benton High school in Waukegan, Illinois recently thought up what they believed to be the perfect harmless prank. To inject some comic relief into the school day, one of them dressed up as a gorilla and chased his pals, dressed as giant bananas, through the school and out the back door. Maybe they should have kept going. The following day, they were all suspended, along with threats of further punishment that included being barred from attending their senior prom—and kept off the stage during graduation....

Trading Places by: Deborah Lambert, April 23, 2008 Trust the Brits to come up with a dandy educational plan to reduce school exposure to bad behavior addicts. According to Children's Secretary Ed Balls, the plan that calls for a "swap" of unruly kids with good ones has been labeled as "wicked," and prompted teachers to call for "snap strikes over disruptive behavior." To keep suspension numbers as low as possible, the teachers union says that unruly students are spread out over a number of schools. In a talk delivered at the union's annual conference, teachers' union member Susan Jones described...
