Some creative high-school seniors at Zion-Benton High school in Waukegan, Illinois recently thought up what they believed to be the perfect harmless prank. To inject some comic relief into the school day, one of them dressed up as a gorilla and chased his pals, dressed as giant bananas, through the school and out the back door.

Maybe they should have kept going.

The following day, they were all suspended, along with threats of further punishment that included being barred from attending their senior prom—and kept off the stage during graduation.

The Waukegan News Sun reported that according to school superintendent Deborah Clarke, this was all done in accordance with school policies for “serious pranks.”

The wayward seniors finally served out their suspension, but not before...

I see this as evidence that values have disintegrated to the point that some people don’t know what constitutes a serious offense, not having a clue as to what values are in the first place.

I don't think a male administrator would have been so harsh. Female administrators often seem to be much more politically correct in their actions.

When I was a sophomore in high school, the brother of one of my friends (along with a pal of his) rode his motorcycle through the halls of the school at about 60 mph. Although both boys were wearing helmets, everyone figured out quickly who had done it. (Process of elimination; who is stupid enough, and reckless enough, to try this?) The driver was arressted and taken to jail (released into the custody of his parents, but he did eventually have to go to court over it).

The offense was having a sense of humor, and a smidgen of creativity. Government schools exist to stamp out such tendencies.

Serious prank? Did they knock people down on their way through? Did they shoot water pistols?

I can't see how dressing up and running through the school can even remotely be called a serious prank. My guess us that the school wanted to discourage someone in next year's class from one-upping this group. But these punitive measures were WAY out of proportion to the stunt.

prank were pulled by female students, all would have
laughed and had a wonderful time.

Government schools exist to dehumanize, defame and
denegrate male students; unless of course that male
student happens to be gay, black, hispanic asian,
muslim or atheist.

You have to be kidding me. A perfectly hilarious and tasteful Senior prank warrants all that? At least with dogs and cats, it's done surgically.
