A month old story, but I couldn't find a thread on it. A girl is suspended for 5 days for "touching" another girl's prescription medication. The district is insane and the COO, Martin Bell, sounds like a total dufus.

Bet you it would be okay if the girl got an abortion without the knowledge or consent of her parents.

What’s going on is absurd.

Her parents should sue the crap out the school district and get enough money out of them to set up a conservative Charter school.

According to Greater Clark County Schools district policy, even a touch equals drug possession and a one week suspension.

Ridiculous. I'd be seeing a lawyer ASAP and raising hell at the local school board.

District officials say if they're not strict about drug policies no one will take them seriously.

I'm finding difficult to take these district officials seriously now. What ever happened to exercising judgment?

Doesn’t possession generally have a legal definition?

By that logic if a family member brings your prescription medicine to you in bed they are guilty of a felony drug possesion.

It is PC and absurd policies run amuck. Common sense and reason are not a part of the public schools anymore (if they ever were). What a joke.

“Zero Tolerance” policies are created by cowards who don’t want to have to think or make actual decisions. It is exactly the kind of crap that happens in a Socialist world:

RAMPANT STUPIDITY!!!!!

ANOTHER REASON TO HOMESCHOOL

This ping list is for the “other” articles of interest to homeschoolers about education and public school. This can occasionally be a fairly high volume list. Articles pinged to the Another Reason to Homeschool List will be given the keyword of ARTH. (If I remember. If I forget, please feel free to add it yourself)

The main Homeschool Ping List handles the homeschool-specific articles. I hold both the Homeschool Ping List and the Another Reason to Homeschool Ping list. Please freepmail me to let me know if you would like to be added to or removed from either list, or both.

District officials say if they're not strict about drug policies no one will take them seriously.

And if the school district doesn't show some common sense no one will take them seriously, either.

We wanted to know what would have happened if Rachael had told a teacher right away. Bell said the punishment would not have been any different. District officials say if they're not strict about drug policies no one will take them seriously.

Just like so many things that go on in our public schools, this is absolutely moronic.

Tell me something. This is a rhetorical question.

When we have people who are apparent IMBECILES who are IN CHARGE of the educational system for our children, what do we expect as a finished result of that educational process?

In other words, how is one supposed to get intelligent adults (the expected outcome) out of an EDUCATIONAL system THAT IS BEING RUN AND MANAGED BY IDIOTS?

This alone is reason enough to remove your kids from the public schools and either put them in a good private school or homeschool them.

“Common sense and reason are not a part of the public schools anymore (if they ever were).”

They never were. It’s just more obvious now.

If/when I ever have kids it will be charter schools of my choosing. This student gets a severe punishment but it is okay to bully a student to suicide (i know different schools but its the same at all of them). If the student was an athlete making the football program money there would have been no punishment. The public schools make me sick. sorry for the rant.

Possession requires an intent to posses and an overt act to effect that possession.

If the other girl said, here, look at this and put in her hand, that in itself is not possession.

In addition, there is a reasonableness criteria dealing with the time it possessed. Holding it for five seconds is not possession.

Sue the bastards. They will settle for somewhere between $50,000 and $100,000.

"He said she wrote it down on a witness statement and she had told the truth, he said she was very, very honest and he said he was sorry he had to do it but it was school policy," said Patty Greer.

School policy.

Without a policy, administrators are afraid to make tough decisions for fear their decisions will end up being challenged in court. Unfortunately, policies are being applied uniformly, to keep policy decision making from being overturned in court. In this case, the policy was poorly written.

A better solution to this problem is to do away with publicly funded schools and let parents send their children to the private school of their choice. Parents can make a decision on where to send their children based on all criteria, including stupid school policies.

Thank Bill Bennett and subsequent Zero Tolerance jerks. I don't know if he coined the term, but he was certainly its most prominent pusher.

Greater Clark County Schools is a joke. The school board has, as a member who profits off of his position, doesn’t pay child support, and used to beat up his wife. They hired a superintendent by paying him an outlandish amount that was arrived at by asking local businesses for donations towards the total, which will be made up by the district if businesses decide not to ante up next year.

AND, when a kid has a pill placed in her hand, says “no”, they suspend her. What’s next, you hear someone curse at a teacher and get suspended, too?

What a joke.
