The ex-wife of disgraced Subway pitchman Jared Fogle filed a lawsuit Monday against the sandwich company, claiming it knew for years about Fogle’s desire for underage girls. Katie McLaughlin’s civil action, filed in Hamilton County, Indiana, said Subway received reports on three separate occasions — the first as early as 2004 — about Fogle’s sexual desire for young girls but did nothing to stop it. McLaughlin, who married Fogle in 2010, said the pitchman — who claimed to have lost hundreds of pounds by eating Subway sandwiches and walking — propositioned an underage girl for sex in 2004 at a...

Mexico City’s Mayor Miguel Angel Mancera is handing out plastic whistles. A half-million of them. At three bucks a pop, he’s hoping that women will use the whistles to scare off harassers on the packed public transportation system. When the plan was announced this summer, it received a flurry of scathing criticism and mocking memes on social media. But city officials are moving forward and have been handing out the whistles by the thousands at subway and bus stops. […] So far, the critics of the whistle plan have been making the most noise. Since he began handing out the...

A woman has been charged after letting crickets and worms loose on a D Train in what she said was a piece of performance art. Actress Zaida Pugh was charged with misdemeanor reckless endangerment, among other counts. She is accused of causing panic by setting the insects and worms free inside a subway car on Wednesday of last week. Pugh’s stunt freaked out a lot of straphangers. In the chaos, someone pulled the emergency brake and the train came to a screeching halt on the Manhattan Bridge, where it ended up stuck for half an hour. Passenger Ezra Mechaber tweeted:...

INDIANAPOLIS -- Jared Fogle's attorneys filed a motion Thursday claiming the parents of one of his victims share responsibility for the crime because they "failed to properly supervise" her. In the complaint, Fogle asks for the two unnamed parents of "Jane Doe" – one of his victims who filed a federal lawsuit against him in March – to be added as third-party defendants in the suit, asserting they "may be liable for all or part of the Plaintiff's claims against him."

In the sweaty days of August, when stifling subway platforms become almost unbearable, riders are even more anxious than usual for their trains to arrive so they can cool off inside. Unless, of course, the air-conditioning on board is broken. They are known as hot cars, and Tracey-Ann Johnson found herself stepping onto one on a northbound No. 1 train in Manhattan on Sunday after brunch.

It's crazy right now" Dozens of commuters ran out of a crowded Manhattan subway station Tuesday morning after one straphanger thought someone claimed to have a gun, according to the NYPD. Straphangers stampeded out of the Central Park North - 110th Street subway station in Harlem at about 9 a.m. in what police are calling mass hysteria. Authorities said the commotion spurred from a fight between two people on a 2 train. It's not clear what led straphangers to believe someone...

Subway Revenue Drops as It Closes Hundreds of U.S. Restaurants Subway Restaurants revenue fell in 2015 for the second straight year, a sign one of the fast-food industry’s stalwarts is losing ground to newer chains. Revenue dropped 4.3 percent to $1.11 billion last year, according to the company’s Franchise Disclosure Document, which was filed with the Minnesota Department of Commerce last week. Subway owner Doctor’s Associates Inc. also is slowing its pace of new restaurant openings and shuttering hundreds of underperforming locations. Fast-casual chains such as Panera Bread Co. have been taking share from Subway restaurants in the U.S., bringing...

The other day Hillary Clinton went to the New York Subway for a photo-op. She was subsequently criticized for not knowing how to use the MetroCard needed to enter. But she also committed another faux pas that went almost unnoticed: She cut in line! If this was anyone but someone with a Secret Service detail, there would have been some angry words exchanged. Oh, this poor girl: [short video at link]

photo ops can suddenly turn on a politician and bite their South Side — in front of the same leering cameras. Ask Hillary Clinton after her awkward Thursday experience attempting to enter the New York City subway. Clinton’s had Secret Service chauffeurs for 23 years now. She hasn’t driven a car this century. She prohibits traveling press from photographing her boarding chartered private jets. But with the New York primary just 11 days away and another elderly ex-New Yorker undermining her sure-fire, now lame nomination campaign by winning six of the last seven contests, millionairess Clinton wanted to look like...

New Yorkers got a chuckle on Thursday morning when Hillary Clinton rode the subway. On her way into the station, Clinton had a little bit of trouble swiping her MetroCard: it took five goes for her to finally get the green light and pass through the turnstile. This little incident became the cause of much mirth. “Clinton struggles to get through subway entrance,” said Politico. “Former New York Senator Hillary Clinton Struggles to Swipe Her Subway MetroCard,” reported ABC. “Video Shows Hillary Clinton Struggling With MetroCard At Bronx Subway Station,” said the local CBS affiliate’s website.

The downside to staging a photo op of your candidate riding on New York City’s subway system ahead of the New York state primary is that a lot of TV cameras are there if they fail to actually get on the subway. Hillary Clinton had to swipe her Metrocard fives times in order to get past the turnstile as CNN and MSNBC cameras watched on. All told, it took Clinton about twenty seconds to figure out how to get through.

Bernie Sanders may hail from Brooklyn, but it's clearly been a while since the 74-year-old presidential candidate took the F train to Coney Island. In an interview with the Daily News, the transcript of which was released Monday, Sanders was asked whether he was going to campaign in the subway, as well as whether he knew how to ride it. "I know how to ride the subways. I've been on them once or twice," Sanders, who is no stranger to traveling with the public, told the Daily News. "Do you really?" the interviewer asked. "How do you get on the...

(Reuters) - Former Subway sandwich chain pitchman Jared Fogle, who is serving a sentence for child pornography and sex offenses, was beaten in a Colorado federal prison in late January by another inmate, according to TMZ. A prison official in Colorado and a lawyer for Fogle did not immediately respond to requests for comment. In December, Fogle, who became famous after losing weight on a diet that included sandwiches from the fast-food chain, appealed his 15-1/2-year sentence.
