Milt Pappas, a cagey right-hander who won more than 200 big league games but whose most memorable, if unlucky, legacy is that he was traded for the future Hall of Fame outfielder Frank Robinson in what has been considered one of the most lopsided exchanges in baseball history, died on Tuesday at his home in Beecher, Ill. He was 76.

UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor announced his retirement from mixed-martial arts on Twitter Tuesday. The announcement follows McGregor witnessing last week a Brazilian mixed-martial artist take a beating in the cage that led to his death. The 27-year-old posting the retirement tweet while in Iceland training struck some as a strange setting to call it quits, leading to speculation of a publicity stunt or a call of a UFC bluff on money.

The Denver Broncos have lost their two main quarterbacks from their epic 2016 Super Bowl Championship winning season. We need a proven winner to continue to move this team in the right direction. Coach Gary Kubiak's offense would thrive with Tebow under center. He and the legendary John Elway can make this happen. We dont need a subpar throwaway from some other team, we need an original Bronco who has the fire, desire, and love of the game to play as a Bronco again! As a bonus the Bronco fans would be ecstatic! He just wins, we all know this!...

Johnny Manziel has been fired by his new agent Drew Rosenhaus. It was revealed last Wednesday that Rosenhaus had told Manziel he would not continue their relationship unless the disgraced quarterback agreed to enter a facility to receive treatment for his alleged substance abuse issues. Manziel responded by spending the weekend partying in Coachella. This is now the second agent to fire Manziel is as many months. ESPN was the first to report the news.

Wall-Mart .22 rimfire has been uncommon for three years now. When President Obama pushed for more infringements on the Second Amendment, starting in 2013, the demand for .22 rimfire skyrocketed. Instead of raising prices on the ammunition sufficiently to bring demand down to reasonable levels, manufacturers tried to keep prices stable to earn customer good will. It failed as a strategy. With the demand so high, less public entrepreneurs purchased all the .22 they could obtain, then offered it over the Internet, at gun shows, and other venues, at three to four times the price purchased. The producers stayed with...

Here's something you don't see every day: a defender being lauded for letting a ball drop in. Tigers second baseman Ian Kinsler proved to be the exception during Sunday's game against the Astros. After Anibal Sanchez walked Colby Rasmus to begin the inning, Kinsler elected to let Tyler White's pop-up fall in. Why? So Kinsler could go to second base and retire Rasmus. For those wondering why the infield fly rule wasn't applied, here's the answer: there was only a baserunner on first. The only way it would've been called an infield fly was if there were runners on first...

SNIP After a brief skirmish with Detroit’s Justin Abdelkader, Boyle started flapping his arms like a chicken when his Red Wing adversary seemed unwilling to engage in an old fashioned exchange of fisticuffs. In Abdelkader’s defense, the Red Wing was playing with an injured hand, which appear to be covered with tape. NHL rules prohibit players with tape-covered hands from engaging in fights. Had Abdelkader dropped the gloves with Boyle, he would’ve been subject to a one-game suspension. SNIP

Here’s what I wish for you, dear reader: that in your hour of worry, in your hour of tension, you are afforded the Zen of Bartolo. Actually, I wish that for me, too. Cop just pulled you over, and you know damn well you were blocking the box? Flash a smile that lights up the front seat of your car. Your girlfriend just saw a mysterious number flash on your cellphone? Shrug your shoulders; no big deal, probably just a telemarketer. Boss wants to see you first thing Monday morning?

A San Francisco sheriff’s deputy accidentally discharged a non-duty weapon, a "baby Glock," inside the Hall of Justice on Wednesday morning, apparently while trying to demonstrate the proper use of the weapon to a colleague. The round narrowly missed the fellow deputy, but no one was injured. San Francisco Sheriff’s Department spokeswoman Eileen Hirst said the discharge occurred before court started and was under investigation. She was not able to provide details, pending the outcome of the probe. “An accidental discharge of a firearm is a very serious matter,” she said. “We are all very grateful that no one was...

A Colorado man says he was kicked out of a baseball game after he tossed a home run ball back onto the field. Brandon Sanchez told KDVR that he, his wife and stepsons were enjoying the Colorado Rockies-San Francisco Giants game Tuesday night when the Giants hit a home run. The home run ball landed in Sanchez's hands. Although his stepsons were excited, Sanchez said he couldn't care less. “I threw the ball back just because it was San Francisco’s home run and I wanted the Story home run ball,” he said, referring to Rockies rookie shortstop Trevor Story. Moments...

A woman attended a Yankees–Blue Jays game on Wednesday night and managed to make it through two entire innings before Googling the inevitable: "How long does a baseball game last?" The person sitting behind her posted a photo of the moment she realized she'd be stuck at a stadium in Toronto in early April for at least seven more innings. It probably wasn't the worst moment of her life, but I'd bet it came close. Of course, like all images on the internet, there's always the chance this one has been Photoshopped, but if it lies to us it's only...

---SNIP--- My favorite hockey story about Ed is the time the Flyers played the Red Army team in 1976 at the Spectrum. Jimmy Carter had just been elected president. The Soviet empire was on the offensive while at home the mood was one of retrenchment and retreat. The Red Army team had won 13 championships in a row and was on tour defeating every American professional hockey team they faced. Then they came to Philadelphia home to the Broad Street Bullies as the Flyers were known around the league because of their physical play. In the first period, the Flyers...

In a stunning move that shakes up the top of the draft and almost ensures that the Rams will be starting a rookie quarterback in 2016, the Titans have traded the No. 1 pick in the 2016 NFL Draft to Los Angeles, both teams announced Thursday morning. The Rams, previously selecting at No. 15, are the lowest-picking team in NFL history to trade up to the No. 1 spot. The move, however, did not come cheap. It is essentially the Rams' karmic payback for fleecing the Redskins back in 2012 for a treasure trove of picks that led to the...
