The Lehigh Valley IronPigs are taking “X-Stream” games to an entirely new and unheralded level. The Pennsylvania-based Triple-A affiliate for the Philadelphia Phillies will be the first team in North America to introduce pee-controlled video gaming in men’s washrooms when the season opens next week. The IronPigs announced that the, um, unique, flow-controlled gaming experience would be available at Coca-Cola Park on opening day April 4. Fans who use the urinals will be able to compete against other flow-goers for the top score and the chance to hold the flow king crown. “Our fans are always looking for the next...
  • U.S ties Mexico, 0-0, in World Cup qualifier — and U.S. is happy

MEXICO CITY — Officially the game ended in a tie. But try telling that to the U.S. and Mexico, which fought to a scoreless draw in a World Cup qualifying match that left both teams heading in different directions. For the U.S., Tuesday's result felt like a win — especially since it came at a sold-out Estadio Azteca, a place where the Americans have never won a World Cup qualifier. Plus it leaves the U.S. in third place three games into the six-nation, 10-game qualifying tournament for Brazil 2014. For Mexico, meanwhile, the tie was as humiliating as a loss....

TOPEKA — Deer and turkey hunters in Kansas will be able to use more legal equipment during upcoming hunting seasons. The Kansas Department of Wildlife Parks and Tourism says deer hunters will be allowed to use any center fire rifle or handgun cartridge when deer season starts in September. Previously, hunters had to use ammunition with at least a .23 caliber bullet. Also, any gauge slugs will be allowed starting in the fall. KFDI reports that the state also will allow anyone to use crossbows during archery season, and radio transmitters in arrows will be legal. Previously, only people under...

The Portland Thorns are removing a T-shirt from store shelves and the team's website in response to criticism that its slogan "Feelin' Thorny?" was sexist. The T-shirt was gone in slightly less than 24 hours since the controversy broke on Facebook and was fueled on other social media platforms.

Former NFL player Scott Fujita has seen enough. He's tired of the bigotry. He wants it to end. He's not alone. Players like Fujita, along with a coalition of current and former NFL players, and NFL team owners, a music mogul and others, are working diligently to create a safe atmosphere for the day history will happen: when an openly gay man will be a member of an NFL club. People like Fujita -- brave people -- are attempting to make the issue a non-issue for when that day comes. And there are serious indications that day may come sooner...

Florida Gulf Coast University has shocked the nation by staging two massive upsets in the NCAA men's basketball tournament and becoming the first 15-seed team ever to reach the Sweet Sixteen round. Little-known FGCU beat San Diego State 81-71 on Sunday night, its second NCAA tournament upset of the weekend. Just like in their opening win over second-seeded Georgetown - the Eagles' calling card to the nation - there were plenty of laughs, dunks and dances.

Former big league pitcher Virgil Trucks passed away yesterday at the age of 95. Trucks sustained serious injuries in a fall last summer and would never fully recover. Nicknamed ‘Fire’ on account of both his name and his blazing fastball, Trucks had a stellar 17-year big league career in which he recorded 177 wins. The lion’s share of those wins came with the Detroit Tigers. Trucks made his big league debut in Detroit late in the 1941 season.

COMMERCE CITY, Colo. -- Soft snow started falling, and then kept getting heavier as the night progressed. From the start of Friday's World Cup qualifier, the lines on the field were covered. As the game wore on, even the Americans in their white home uniforms became hard to see. And then in the 55th minute, with the U.S. leading Costa Rica 1-0 on Clint Dempsey's early goal, the referee and match commissioner stopped it. Would it continue? For a moment, it was as unclear as the view. But then, after some heated discussions, play went on. On a snowy night...

The United States men's national team downed Costa Rica 1-0 Friday night in what will be remembered as one of the great soccer games played in the Americas. It wasn’t because of the tactics or the technique, but the setting: a driving snowstorm that both teams gutted through to play out an unforgettable match. Depending on where you were sitting, it was either thriller or farce. There was talk after the game that the Costa Rican FA was preparing a protest; many American fans said it was one of the most enthralling matches they’d ever seen.

DES MOINES, Iowa—Penn State has all but clinched a third straight national title. All that's left for the powerhouse Nittany Lions is for David Taylor to defend the title that Cornell's Kyle Dake has worked so hard to take. Penn State had 114.5 points and a commanding 20.5-point lead over Oklahoma State heading into Saturday's finals of the NCAA championships. Minnesota is third in the team race with 86 points, followed by Iowa with 68. The Nittany Lions also have five wrestlers set to compete for a title, including a surging Taylor. He and Dake—who is one win away from...

There has been a FR roto league going on 10 years now. The commish has been freeper Lone Palmc who was recently placed on the DL. Prayers out to Lone Palm, and he needs a replacement manager for a 5 X 5 roto league. Ideally, the league would like 3 managers to get us back to 12, but 10 teams will do. The draft is at 11 Saturday (tomorrow) morning. It's set up as a keeper league. We've been trying to do that for a couple of years with little success. As the replcament commish, I'll delay the keeper part...

HOUSTON -- Behold what has become of the eighth wonder of the world. The Astrodome sits dark, dusty, dilapidated and haunted by Houston’s history. Giant signs touting bearing outdated logos for corporate sponsors like Continental Airlines hang over orange seats with ripped cushions. Skyboxes are furnished with outdated furniture and old Zenith television sets. Astroturf sits carelessly tossed on the stadium floor, folded over like discarded carpet left behind in an abandoned home. “What do I see?” said Edgar Colon, chairman of the Harris County Sports and Convention Corp., as he looked around the empty stadium. “I see a lot...
