The circuit was designed by German designer Hermann Tilke, who would subsequently design the new facilities in Shanghai, Bahrain, Turkey, Valencia, Singapore, Abu Dhabi, Korea, India and Austin, TX.

Old man Kimi (I guess he’s only 33) has really ramped it up.
That 2011 stint in Nascar has served him well ;-)

Grosjean is definitely no slouch, so the fact that Kimi is torching him says he’s mucho quick.

Dittos to that Chode. I like the elevation changes also, small, medium or large. My 2 all time favorite F1 circuits, the current Spa configuration and the ‘old’ Nurburgring, had some of all three, along with every other great feature Many others do obviously, but those 2 tracks......Damn!!!!

So I fired up the DVR’ed qualifying this morning (just to make sure my DVR worked because it failed me for the Melbourne race - but that’s a different thread topic). Anyway, there at the intro was Bob Varsha’s voice. I did a quick bing search and found no news.

Anyone have any info on this? It’s all subjective, but I really really prefer Varsha to Leigh Duffey, so I am quite happy with this development. Wondering if Varsha worked a separate deal with NBC and it was just AGENT to NETWORK arm wrestling back when it seemed only Hobbs and Matchett were moving.

happy to see Bob Varsha back ... i guess NBC decided to pay him when they realized that three english accents weren't going to be best suited to growing an american audience .... Varsha, Hobbs and machet (SP?) are a great broadcast team. They are part of what sets the sport apart from all others. I'm happy to see that they've made the transition now intact

I didn't see any incident for which Kimi was slapped three grid spots ... did you?

Räikkönen hit with three-place grid penalty

Kimi Räikkönen has been hit with a three-place grid penalty for the Malaysian Grand Prix, with the Finn adjudged to have blocked Mercedes's Nico Rosberg in qualifying.

The Lotus driver, who set the seventh fastest time, was deemed to have impeded Rosberg at Turn 14. The 2007 World Champion will now start Sunday afternoon's race from tenth on the grid, promoting Jenson Button, Adrian Sutil and Sergio Pérez.

Rosberg's starting position will remain unchanged, with the German qualifying sixth.

it's good they kept the announcing team in tact, i didn't see what happened, but it really doesn't sound like Kimi...

at one time there was X.5% F1 drivers killed over the years and i always figured Niki as the .5%

Better racing, better viewing.

Road Atlanta is an awesome track.
Remember going to the first SCCA runoffs in 1970.

The city of Atlanta was really nice back then too, before it turned into the Chicago of the South.

Like most big cities, you just have to know the lay of the land and know where not to be. And we have concealed carry. I’ve had mine for going on 20 years.

There are a lot of nice amenities here. Like Road Atlanta 45 minutes away, among many others.

We were near turn one at the end of the front straight. Had a projector going streaming live timing on the side of the RV, then the race once Speed or whoever was streaming it (last 3 or 4 hours, I can’t remember which). Plenty of tablets around with the live timing once we were running video instead of stats.

Technology during an endurance race is a nice thing.

looks like Bob Varsha is out and Duffy is back again for China ???? ......... it's a shame NBC should leave the Varsha, Hobbs, Marshete team intact

on the sport front .... ... Webber (who is a pretty classy guy) continues to be treated like the red haired step child by Red Bull ... just as Rossberg is at MB ... Hamilton lacks the generosity of Michael who was screwed by MB in much the same way Ferrari threw him under the bus ... Massa will be put in the box by the prancing horse before the season is over too

Heck, do we(!) want to see a bunch of bureaucrats with engines strapped to their backs or RACE DRIVERS? Vettel blowing by Webber will be long remembered (certainly by Webber ;-)). Rosberg trailing along behind Hamilton...not so much. Team orders may be legitimate, but screw ‘em anyway. I’m not a team owner, so I couldn’t care less.

Senna and Prost raced each other to ‘the devil may care’ as well. That’s why we remember them and hold them in esteem.

P*ssy drivers don’t win F1 championships, neither do Pit Wall P*ssies.

I think we’re going to have a lot of fun this year. Woohoo!

“...yeah that was some of the most impressive driving i’ve seen in a looong time, and it’s gonna be a long year... good times hello...”

In the post race interview, Webber said the team said told them to slow down and save the engines, so he did so. Then Vettel blew by him for the lead.

Webber WAS following team direction, and is justifiably pissed with Vettel.

Hamilton was classy. Mercedes ordered their two drivers to stay in place, to conserve fuel and finish. Rosberg, behind Hamilton, was faster.

At the start of his interview Lewis said Rosberg should be on the podium.

All in all an interesting race. Record fast pit stops, and ridiculous pit screw ups. Very nice race course.

Unless he gets hurt, or somebody improves their cars ahead of Red Bull, Vettel takes it again.

His is simply the fastest car-driver combo.
