When I look at public reaction to the candidates in the presidential primary fiasco this election year, it's like something I've never seen in my lifetime. I've never seen the power players reduced to such a lowly status or seen big money relegated to a secondary position as a business man who has never held public office and a Senator who spent his honeymoon in the old USSR - Union of Soviet Socialist Republics - are, at the very least giving the establishment candidates a sight more than either party’s movers and shakers ever bargained for. They represent the absolute...

Since you’ve identified as a Trump supporter, I wanted to make sure you had the opportunity to make it on his list. Contribute $100, $75, $50, or even just $35 to identify yourself as one of Trump’s earliest supporters within our Party. Trump could proudly see your name on his list of supporters before he gets up on that stage and fights for his platform in front of millions of Americans. To send these lists over...

Ted Cruz -- my guy -- confounded the public pollsters with his victory in Iowa, snapping up 35% of the vote in a (much too) crowded field. The comb-over candidate Donald Trump ran away with New Hampshire, as nearly everyone predicted. John Kasich, with almost 16%, came in second with Cruz, at nearly 12%, in third place. But because of a quirk in how the state party allocates delegates and how fractured the "establishment" field is, it could mean that an anti-Trump vote will actually be a vote for the New York billionaire. Here's how: The state party awards delegates on a proportional basis to presidential candidates based on their vote statewide and by congressional district. But it also has a 10 percent threshold. What does that mean? It means that if a candidate does not get 10 percent of the vote, he gets no delegates. And, right now, the favorite is Trump. Trump, after all, has...

He's angry at Marco Rubio, thoroughly disgusted with Donald Trump, aggravated with the grubby, profane, uncivil tone of the Republican primary - and, above all, irate at the mere suggestion that he stop grinding this 2016 thing out until he finally convinces voters that he's the best guy to do the job.

All around the political blogosphere you can find folks smacking their lips over the prospect of a "brokered" Republican national convention. They look forward to the spectacle of delegates assembling in Cleveland with no candidate having a majority, of multiple ballots with governors, floor demonstrations after nominating speeches, congressmen running as favorite sons and delegates demanding that state delegations be polled. Political junkies relish the idea of watching hours of convention proceedings with the same frisson of ignorance about the outcome that makes sports broadcasts the only live television still commanding a large audience. I have bad news for those...

This debate was annoying. If the moderators would stop talking over top of the candidates, then we could actually hear what they have to say. If the moderator's handlers would have had the courage to trim this debate (finally) down to five or six of the top candidates, then we wouldn't have been subject to their short time limits, their incessant buzzers, and their rude interruptions right as the candidates were making their points at the end of their comments. This gets us to the process. More than anything, I was struck by how artificial this entire format was tonight....

A serious threat, or an attempt to remind people of anti-establishment bona fides? Ben Carson’s threat began with a report in the Washington Post that the Republican Party has begun to plan for a brokered convention, especially for the contingency of Donald Trump getting a plurality of delegates but remaining short of a nomination on the first ballot. Robert Costa and Tom Hamburger give a picture of what a smoke-filled room might look like, if people were still allowed to smoke inside buildings: More than 20 of them convened Monday near the Capitol for a dinner held by Republican...

Washington (CNN)Ben Carson on Friday took a page from Donald Trump's playbook by threatening to depart the Republican Party. Ahead of Tuesday's GOP presidential debate, the retired neurosurgeon slammed the party after reports emerged that Republican insiders were discussing the possibility of deal-making to decide the eventual nominee at the Republican National Convention. "If the leaders of the Republican Party want to destroy the party, they should continue to hold meetings like the one described in the Washington Post this morning," Carson said in a statement. "If this was the beginning of a plan to subvert the will of the...

A group of Republican National Committee senior staffers met with Donald Trump's presidential campaign Wednesday to discuss a plan of action should the current Republican front-runner win the party's nomination. The meeting, which took place in New York City, has since been confirmed by an RNC source to the Washington Examiner. According to an initial report by NBC News, an RNC official claimed it is "standard and common" to meet with campaigns during the presidential primary season to discuss the committee's general election strategy. Meetings with other campaigns have reportedly taken place, but the same RNC official declined to name...

A group of GOP leaders held a hush-hush meeting at a Washington, DC, restaurant to discuss the possibility of having a brokered convention next year so that they could find an alternative to Donald Trump, according to a report. Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus held the meeting with establishment GOP honchos, such as Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, The Washington Post reported. They listened to other GOP bigwigs talk about how, if the billionaire New York developer scored a large number of delegates in the primaries, they could mount a floor fight and get the party to back some...

A Republican operative who is organizing an effort to torpedo Donald Trump’s presidential campaign says she is starting a super PAC that could collect unlimited funds from individual donors. Liz Mair, former online communications director for the Republican National Committee, created a limited liability company in October called Trump Card LLC. The anti-Trump effort is focusing on the two states hosting the earliest nominating contests, Iowa and New Hampshire. In an e-mail to supporters, Ms. Mair said the group has reached out to 150 churches in Iowa, 50 community leaders in New Hampshire and media outlets in both states. She...

Republican GOP frontrunner Donald Trump will not be attending a scheduled fundraiser Wednesday for the Republican National Committee, the party confirmed, in the wake of his call for a ban on Muslims entering the United States. Trump had been scheduled to attend the RNC Presidential Trust Dinner in New York City on Dec. 9, and a Trump spokesperson confirmed his attendance at the event when it was first reported in late October. But those plans have now changed. “There will be no presidential candidates attending the dinner,” an RNC spokesperson told TIME late Monday. It was not immediately clear whether...
