  • Why Precisely Is Bernie Sanders Against Reparations?

Last week Bernie Sanders was asked whether he was in favor of “reparations for slavery.” It is worth considering Sanders’s response in full: No, I don’t think so. First of all, its likelihood of getting through Congress is nil. Second of all, I think it would be very divisive. The real issue is when we look at the poverty rate among the African American community, when we look at the high unemployment rate within the African American community, we have a lot of work to do.

As a white liberal running in a majority African American district, Tennessee Democrat Stephen I. Cohen made a novel pledge on the campaign trail last year: If elected, he would seek to become the first white member of the Congressional Black Caucus. Now that he's a freshman in Congress, Cohen has changed his plans. He said he has dropped his bid after several current and former caucus members made it clear to him that whites need not apply.

Last July, Anthony Hervey, an outspoken black advocate for the Confederate flag, was killed in a car crash. Arlene Barnum, a surviving passenger in the vehicle, told authorities and the media that they had been forced off the road by a carload of "angry young black men" after Hervey, while wearing his Confederate kepi, stopped at a convenience store en route to his home in Oxford, Mississippi. His death was in no small part caused by the gross level of ignorance, organized deceit and anger about the War of 1861. Much of the ignorance stems from the fact that most...

Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) president Cheryl Boone Isaacs said Monday she was “heartbroken” after the organization behind the Academy Awards nominated exclusively white actors in top acting acting categories for a second straight year, and vowed “big changes” were in store to combat what some critics call a major diversity problem at Hollywood’s biggest night.

Editor's note: This column is an excerpt from Crystal Wright's new book, "Con Job: How Democrats Gave Us Crime, Sanctuary Cities, Abortion Profiteering, and Racial Division."When was the last time anyone heard the "Reverend" Al Sharpton give a sermon? I mean a real one, not a rant that incites racial unrest. Ever since Sharpton came to the defense of Tawana Brawley in 1987, knowing she HAD lied in accusing white men of raping her, he's been a professional race profiteer. Not only did Tawana lie, she lied big time: spreading dog feces on herself then hiding in a trash can...

  • Enoch Powell's "Rivers of Blood" speech

This is the full text of Enoch Powell's so-alled 'Rivers of Blood' speech, which was delivered to a Conservative Association meeting in Birmingham on April 20 1968. The supreme function of statesmanship is to provide against preventable evils. In seeking to do so, it encounters obstacles which are deeply rooted in human nature. One is that by the very order of things such evils are not demonstrable until they have occurred: at each stage in their onset there is room for doubt and for dispute whether they be real or imaginary. By the same token, they attract little attention in...

Kenneth Stokes, a councilman in the City of Jackson, Mississippi's Third Ward, urged residents to "violently oppose police intrusion into our neighborhood." Stokes was especially concerned with police pursuit of suspects fleeing from crime scenes in nearby white neighborhoods. "Brothers who have successfully fled to Black neighborhoods should be protected against police brutality by the righteous defense of our turf," Stokes asserted. "We need to take heed of how Muslim communities in cities in Europe have defended their turf from the intrusion of infidel police. We need to end the knee-jerk submission to white standards and values and uphold our...

Each year, "The McLaughlin Group," the longest-running panel show on national TV, which began in 1982, announces its awards for the winners and losers and the best and the worst of the year. Rereading my list of 39 awardees suggests something about how our world is changing. As "Person of the Year" and "Biggest Winner," the choice was easy, Donald Trump. American Pharoah, Triple Crown winner of the Kentucky Derby, the Preakness and the Belmont Stakes, was my runner-up. But three selections tell another side of the story of Trump's triumph. My "Biggest Loser" was the Republican establishment. As...

Imperial College London has found that two networks of genes determine whether people are intelligent or not so bright. Genes which make people intelligent have been discovered and scientists believe they could be manipulated to boost brain power. Researchers have believed for some time that intellect is inherited with studies suggesting that up to 75 per cent of IQ is genetic, and the rest down to environmental factors such as schooling and friendship groups. But until now, nobody has been able to pin-point exactly which genes are responsible for better memory, attention, processing speed or reasoning skills. Now Imperial College...

At the Heritage Foundation on the anniversary of Pearl Harbor, two law professors gave a preview of the second Fisher v. Texas decision, which was again before the U.S. Supreme Court. Vanderbilt Law's own James Blumstein and the University of California-San Diego's Gail Heriot gave background on the court case. Blumstein said that the University of Texas-Austin thought that it can use "race as a proxy for characteristics" in their admissions process. However, the first Fisher v. Texas case "drew a line [with] no special preference" for race and sent the case back down the legal system until the recent...

The 9th Circuit Court of Appeals decision upholding an Arizona law banning abortions performed because of the sex or race of the baby was assailed by spokesmen for the law's opponents as "a backward step toward slavery and oppression." NCAAP spokesperson Shakeel Infante maintained that "forcing an African-American woman to bear a baby she doesn't want negates the promise of freedom we are striving to implement in this country. Motherhood has burdens. Forcing those burdens on an unwilling woman is slavery, pure and simple." ACLU spokesperson Alexa Kolbi-Molinas agreed and added that "not only does this ruling enslave Black women,...

Barack Obama also trashes working class white males in the interview. The New York Times reported: President Obama said in a radio interview airing on Monday that Donald J. Trump, a leading contender for the Republican presidential nomination, is exploiting the resentment and anxieties of working-class men to boost his campaign. Mr. Obama also argued that some of the scorn directed at him personally stems from the fact that he is the first African-American to hold the White House. Demographic changes and economic stresses, including "flatlining" wages and incomes, have meant that "particularly blue-collar men have had a lot of...

Defenders of racial preferences are good at two things: ignoring the real-world consequences of their policies, and attacking anyone who notices the consequences. At the recent argument in Fisher v. University of Texas at Austin, Justice Scalia asked a question that illustrated that the victims of racial preferences in college admissions include not only the people denied admission because they are not the preferred race, but also the people preferences are designed to help. At oral argument, Justice Scalia said: There are those who contend that it does not benefit African-Americans to get them into the University of Texas...
