Jussie Smollett is now officially in the crosshairs of law enforcement, because Chicago PD said he's now "officially classified as a suspect in a criminal investigation ... for filing a false police report." The cops say detectives are currently presenting evidence to a Cook County Grand Jury. If Smollett is charged the felony carries a maximum 3-year prison sentence. We're told the 2 brothers are at the courthouse now and are expected to testify ... most probably today.

For someone who never held elective office before the presidency, Donald Trump has made some savvy political moves during these first 25 months in office, many of them aimed at earning another 48 months in this job come 2020. Of course, his undisciplined remarks often create stumbles, handing opponents openings and verbal ammo to use against him, though few of those seem to have left lasting marks so far. But a recent astute move came in probably the most-quoted part of his 5,100-word State of the Union address earlier this month. The president had scorned Venezuela’s slide into turmoil and...

It would be easy to dismiss the Green New Deal as an impossible progressive dream, but that would be a mistake. The Green New Deal is not the bucket list of Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and her fellow travelers, but a blueprint to turn America into a socialist state. It is the culmination of a 90-year campaign, begun with FDR and the first New Deal. “The first obligation of government is the protection of the welfare and well-being, indeed the very existence, of its citizens,” presidential nominee Franklin D. Roosevelt said at the 1932 Democratic National Convention. Roosevelt said that in...

CBS sitcom “The Big Bang Theory” snuck another anti-Trump message into the popular show’s credits on Thursday night, taking aim at press secretary Sarah Sanders’ appearance and Christian faith. “God told me he hasn't spoken to Sarah Sanders since she was fourteen years old and praying for her skin to clear up. I have no reason to doubt Him,” an on-screen message during the show’s closing credits said.

...Democrats are about to embark on the first woke primary, a gantlet of political correctness that will routinely wring abject apologies out of candidates and find fault in even the most sure-footed. The passage of time will be no defense. Nor the best of intentions. Nor anything else. Any lapses will be interpreted through the most hostile lens, made all the more brutal by the competition of a large field of candidates vying for the approval of a radicalized base. The Democratic nomination battle might as well be fought on the campus of Oberlin College and officiated by the director...

"More children from the fit; less from the unfit—that is the chief issue of birth control." [1] –Margaret Sanger, Birth Control Review Margaret Sanger, the founder of Planned Parenthood, has an ignoble legacy as a racist who addressed the Ku Klux Klan and initiated a Negro Project to reduce the population of poor, uneducated African Americans whom she considered unfit to reproduce themselves. This Margaret Sanger—the real Margaret Sanger—is completely whitewashed in Parenthood propaganda, which deceitfully portrays Sanger as a champion of reproductive “choice.” Even more incriminating than Sanger’s racism, however, is her close association with Nazism. Sanger was part...

“Mary Poppins Returns,” which picked up four Oscar nominations last week, is an enjoyably derivative film that seeks to inspire our nostalgia for the innocent fantasies of childhood, as well as the jolly holidays that the first “Mary Poppins” film conjured for many adult viewers. Part of the new film’s nostalgia, however, is bound up in a blackface performance tradition that persists throughout the Mary Poppins canon, from P. L. Travers’s books to Disney’s 1964 adaptation, with disturbing echoes in the studio’s newest take on the material, “Mary Poppins Returns.” One of the more indelible images from the 1964 film...

It’s been two years since the end of the Obama presidency and in that span, the mainstream Democratic Party has made an extreme shift to the far left. In 2019 the Democrats have put their weight behind increased taxes, universal health care, open borders, and third-trimester abortions. How do we account for this radical trend? A journalist friend of mine reports that his generally liberal college son was somewhat somnolent and indifferent during the Obama years, lulled into quiescence by liberal policies and moderate talk. Then came Trump. A huge splash of cold water hit his face and he and...

A series of prominent Democrats demanded Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam's resignation on Friday, excoriating him for appearing in a racist yearbook photo showing one person dressed in blackface and another in the KKK's signature white hood and robes. The calls came from a number of 2020 presidential candidates, members of Congress and prominent liberal organizations, all of whom said Northam's apology on the issue was not enough. The NAACP also called for Northam to leave office. Those calls, however, were not echoed by Virginia Democrats, including Sens. Tim Kaine and Mark Warner. Both said they were shocked and offended by...

Vice Media CEO Nancy Dubuc announced to employees Friday morning that the news outlet will slash its headcount by 10 percent as part of a “strategic” restructuring. A Vice Media spokesperson told The Hollywood Reporter that 250 of its 2500 staffers will be let go to refocus its growth efforts in production and branded content. Employees from departments, including finance and IT, are expected to be impacted by the decision. “Having finalized the 2019 budget, our focus shifts to executing our goals and hitting our marks,” Dubuc (pictured) wrote in a company-wide memo. “We will make Vice the best manifestation...

“Through Her Eyes” is a new weekly half-hour show hosted by humanitarian and women’s rights activist Zainab Salbi that aims to explore a hot button news issue through the lens of a female newsmaker. You can watch “Through Her Eyes” every Tuesday at 8 p.m. on the Roku channel, and see full episodes at yahoonews.com. Weeks after Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., made headlines by calling for a top marginal income tax rate of 70 percent in an interview with “60 Minutes,” her fellow freshman congresswoman, Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., suggested that the rich could pay even more. “There are a...

OTTAWA - Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who swept to power on a wave of optimism in 2015, is set for an ugly reelection campaign this October, judging by exchanges with voters in public town halls this month where he was grilled on topics ranging from immigration to housing affordability. Public unhappiness over illegal immigrants crossing the border from the United States is so great that the party will consider a promise to clamp down further. A woman at a town hall in the province of Saskatchewan in Canada’s west, a region where the Liberals are in trouble, accused Trudeau...

House Democrats were joined by Lilly Ledbetter, the namesake of the fair pay act signed by President Obama in 2009, to introduce supplemental legislation they say gives women "new tools" to challenge the gender pay gap. The Paycheck Fairness Act, which is sponsored by Rep. Rosa DeLauro, D-Conn., and Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., addresses modern-day salary imbalances between men and women, which can be exacerbated when women are unaware of their male coworkers' salaries. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-New York, said while introducing the bill that women could use a Google sheet to share salaries. Ocasio-Cortez, a progressive and the most...

“The American Constitution is an outdated, malfunctioning piece of junk,” wrote Ryan Cooper in a 2018 column for The Week. After the obligatory cheap shot at our Framers for their imaginary yet unforgiveable original sin of slavery, he launched into a tirade about a divided Washington in which elections generally do not produce functioning governments, meaning government responsive to passing popular whims. His remedy? Adopt the governing structure of “normal” countries, a parliamentary system. To counter what he calls the “right-wing fringe” in the House of Representatives, he proposes three reps from enlarged congressional districts. In this scheme, what I call...

For the world’s richest man, charity begins — and stays — at home. Amazon founder and CEO Jeff Bezos has given only a tiny fraction of his $160 billion fortune to philanthropic causes, falling far behind fellow billionaires such as Bill and Melinda Gates and former New York mayor Michael Bloomberg, public records show. Although Bezos, 55, and his estranged wife MacKenzie recently pledged $2 billion to a new charitable initiative, their previous giving amounts to a total of just over $145 million or .0906 percent — far less than one percent — of their net worth. Out of $100,000,...

While trekking the internet I came across this article from March 2018 by David Faris in the Washington Post about packing the Supreme Court: Democrats must consider court-packing when they regain power. It’s the only way to save democracy. I did a search and came up with the book he wrote, "It’s Time to Fight Dirty: How Democrats Can Build a Lasting Majority in American Politics: It’s Time to Fight Dirty How Democrats Can Build a Lasting Majority in American Politics The American electoral system is clearly falling apart—as evidenced by the 2016 presidential election. In It’s Time to Fight...

Ultimately, finding an optimal tax rate for the super-rich is a moral and political issue as much as an economic one. Last week, when 60 Minutes aired an interview with newly sworn-in Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, the freshman New York congressperson caused an uproar with what, by Washington standards, seemed a rather immodest proposal. Asked whether an expansion of public investment in green technologies would require raising taxes, she cited history.

The 2018 midterms were a disaster for House Republicans. Democrats gained 40 seats, retook the majority, and, to our horror, Nancy Pelosi is speaker again. They were elected to stop Trump, to block him at every turn, and lead the effort for his impeachment and removal from office. Any Democrat who says otherwise is lying. The base demands Trump go at all costs. The younger, feistier Democrats say that openly. The older crew tries to downplay it, but ultimately that’s their goal. They’re banking heavily that the report by Special Counsel Robert Mueller, who is leading the DOJ’s Russia probe,...

Jews around the world tomorrow hear Parsha Bo (Exodus 10:1 to 13:16) declaimed in the synagogue, recounting the last of the biblical plagues, the killing of Egypt’s first-born, and our midnight departure from Egypt. It is a solemn moment in our religious calendar. Our rabbis emphasize that God did not simply rescue us from Egyptian bondage, but brought a terrible judgment against their gods. Lord, hear our cry, and bring judgment against the pagan gods who are worshipped today!
