The Missionary’s Predestined Purpose " Now the Lord says, who formed Me from the womb to be His Servant . . . —Isaiah 49:5 " The first thing that happens after we recognize our election by God in Christ Jesus is the destruction of our preconceived ideas, our narrow-minded thinking, and all of our other allegiances— we are turned solely into servants of God’s own purpose. The entire human race was created to glorify God and to enjoy Him forever. Sin has diverted the human race onto another course, but it has not altered God’s purpose to the slightest...

The Divine Commandment of Life " . . . be perfect, just as your Father in heaven is perfect —Matthew 5:48 " Our Lord’s exhortation to us in Matthew 5:38-48 is to be generous in our behavior toward everyone. Beware of living according to your natural affections in your spiritual life. Everyone has natural affections— some people we like and others we don’t like. Yet we must never let those likes and dislikes rule our Christian life. “If we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another” (1 John 1:7), even...

You have heard that it was said, You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy, said Jesus in his famous Sermon on the Mount. But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, so that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven (Matthew 5:43). If youve ever wondered why many people refused to follow Jesus during his earthly ministry, you have to look no further than that verse. In our day, we have watered down the term enemy so much that this command has lost much of its shock...

" You are those who have continued with Me in My trials Luke 22:28 " It is true that Jesus Christ is with us through our temptations, but are we going on with Him through His temptations? Many of us turn back from going on with Jesus from the very moment we have an experience of what He can do. On Sunday, Sept. 21, a local satanic sect apparently will be allowed to conduct a public act of blasphemy in the form of a so-called black mass at the Civic Center in Oklahoma City. In spite of an overwhelming outcry of alarm from around the world, our city leaders will allow this outrage to take place in a publicly supported facility. They will not accede to the reasonable requests of local citizens to stop this outright mockery of the Catholic Mass nor the reasonable concerns of so many that this satanic ritual invokes powers of evil and invites them into...

" No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man . . . —1 Corinthians 10:13 " The word temptation has come to mean something bad to us today, but we tend to use the word in the wrong way. Japan is known by many to be a difficult mission field. But for those who know missions in Japan well, the phrase “hard mission field” is merely a euphemism for a grimmer expression that was previously used about Africa, one that has been recently applied to Japan: “the missionary’s graveyard.” One would expect such a bleak designation to be used in reference to a land known for physical hardship or violent persecution, and there have been martyrs in Japan’s Christian history. That is not the case today, however. Religious worker visas are readily available, and the Japanese often politely thank...

Pray For Our American Heroes and Our Nation The War of 1812 No king is saved by the size of his army; no warrior escapes by his great strength. A horse is a vain hope for deliverance; despite all its great strength it cannot save. But the eyes of the LORD are on those who fear him, on those whose hope is in his unfailing love, to deliver them from death and keep them alive in famine. Psalm 33:16-19 (NIV) ----

Missionary Weapons (2) " If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet —John 13:14 " Ministering in Everyday Opportunities. Ministering in everyday opportunities that surround us does not mean that we select our own surroundings— it means being God’s very special choice to be available for use in any of the seemingly random surroundings which He has engineered for us. The very character we exhibit in our present surroundings is an indication of what we will be like in other surroundings. The things Jesus did were the most menial...

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem Jobs In The Bible Baker New International Version (NIV) 40 Some time later, the cupbearer and the baker of the king of Egypt offended their master, the king of Egypt. 2 Pharaoh was angry with his two officials, the chief cupbearer and the chief baker, 3 and put them in custody in the house of the captain of the guard, in the same prison where Joseph was confined. 4 The captain of the guard assigned them to Joseph, and he attended them. After they had been in custody for some time, 5 each of the two men—the cupbearer...

Pray For Our American Heroes and Our Nation John 14:6 Stand Firm New International Version (NIV) 26So do not be afraid of them, for there is nothing concealed that will not be disclosed, or hidden that will not be made known. 27What I tell you in the dark, speak in the daylight; what is whispered in your ear, proclaim from the roofs. 28Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell. 29Are not two sparrows sold for a...

September 11, 2014Thursday of the Twenty-third Week in Ordinary Time    Reading 1 1 Cor 8:1b-7, 11-13 Brothers and sisters:Knowledge inflates with pride, but love builds up.If anyone supposes he knows something,he does not yet know as he ought to know. But if one loves God, one is known by him. So about the eating of meat sacrificed to idols:we know that there is no idol in the world, and that there is no God but one.Indeed, even though there are so-called gods in heaven and on earth(there are, to be sure, many “gods” and many “lords”),yet for us there is...

Missionary Weapons (1) " When you were under the fig tree, I saw you —John 1:48 " Worshiping in Everyday Occasions. We presume that we would be ready for battle if confronted with a great crisis, but it is not the crisis that builds something within us— it simply reveals what we are made of already. Do you find yourself saying, “If God calls me to battle, of course I will rise to the occasion”? Yet you won’t rise to the occasion unless you have done so on God’s training ground. If you are not doing the task that...

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem Jobs In The Bible Athlete New International Version (NIV) 5 Similarly, anyone who competes as an athlete does not receive the victor’s crown except by competing according to the rules.(2 Timothy 2:5)
24 Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize. 25 Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last, but we do it to get a crown that will last...
