That isn’t remotely what I said. You’re setting up a straw man so you can knock it down. I’m saying that professionals hired to do a job should stick to professional topics (and perhaps discussion of the weather) unless invited to do otherwise. If a plumber comes to fix your toilet, do you want to hear about his marital issues? If you get a babysitter to watch your kids, do you want to hear all about her thyroid problem?

Religion is also a personal matter that you shouldn’t discuss in a PROFESSIONAL setting unless you’re sure it would be welcome. I’ve got no opinions about what this teacher does with her own time. It’s what she says and does when she’s ON THE JOB that have some legitimate boundaries.

Heavenly Father, we Praise You that even in the midst of the deepest grief, bootless can bring the needs of others before the Throne of Grace. Comfort bootless and her family, even as you bring healing and health to Teresa. Shelter her son from fear and anxiety for his mom ... may her surgery and recovery be swift and sure, that they might soon enjoy the warmth of their home together. In the Name of the Living Christ, may it be so, O Lord, may it be so ... Amen ...

Absolutely no flaming! These daily threads are intended to be devotional in nature. If a particular day's offering says nothing to you, please just go on and wait for the next day. I can attest from personal experience that reading from Chambers daily will almost certainly change - not one's faith - but one's perspective of his/her own faith, and open up new vistas in your spiritual life. If - when - this happens to a reader of these threads, and they choose to share what has happened within them - we are treading on hallowed ground. Be respectful.

Oswald Chambers (1874-1917) was born July 24, 1874, in Aberdeen, Scotland. Converted in his teen years under the ministry of Charles Haddon Spurgeon, he studied art and archaeology at the University of Edinburgh before answering a call from God to the Christian ministry. He then studied theology at Dunoon College. From 1906-1910 he conducted an itinerant Bible-teaching ministry in the United States, the United Kingdom, and Japan.

In 1910, Chambers married Gertrude Hobbs. They had one daughter, Kathleen.

In 1911 he founded and became principal of the Bible Training College in Clapham, London, where he lectured until the school was closed in 1915 because of World War I. In October 1915 he sailed for Zeitoun, Egypt (near Cairo), where he ministered to troops from Australia and New Zealand as a YMCA chaplain. He died there November 15, 1917, following surgery for a ruptured appendix.

Although Oswald Chambers wrote only one book, Baffled to Fight Better, more than thirty titles bear his name. With this one exception, published works were compiled by Mrs. Chambers, a court stenographer, from her verbatim shorthand notes of his messages taken during their seven years of marriage. For half a century following her husband's death she labored to give his words to the world.

My Utmost For His Highest, his best-known book, has been continuously in print in the United States since 1935 and remains in the top ten titles of the religious book bestseller list with millions of copies in print. It has become a Christian classic.

Praying for comforting for you and your family.

It doesn’t seem to matter if our loved ones are elderly and have had a good life. I fell apart last year just because my Mom was close to going, then she rallied. She’s now 90 and doesn’t really know us any more.

God’s implacable charity is hard to accept, especially when He is the loving father doing what is needed and best.

Death seems an alien enemy, and I am only comforted by when thinking of Christ conquering death for us all by His perfect sacrifice.

Try hard to reach out to the beautiful and joyful through this time of grief.
