Postcard from the old days. College students in duffle coats, hanging out in Greenwich Village coffee houses, arguing about Yeats and Whitman, in a lather over jazz, experimenting with sex and dope, bursting with non-commercial creativity, crazy to revolutionize, doomed peach-fuzz romantics trying to one-up Arthur Rimbaud. Kill Your Darlings narrowcasts us back to the young explorations of Allen Ginsberg (Daniel Radcliffe), fledgling holy man and tentative poetic conscience of howling modernity, during his studies at Columbia in 1944. The director, John Krokidas, and his co-writer Austin Bunn throw the era in our face in huge jangling chunks — gorgeous...

America the Beautiful, or so you used to be. Land of the Pilgrims' pride; I'm glad they'll never see. Babies piled in dumpsters, Abortion on demand, Oh, sweet land of liberty; your house is on the sand. Our children wander aimlessly poisoned by cocaine, Choosing to indulge their lusts, when God has said abstain. From sea to shining sea, our Nation turns away From the teaching of God's love and a need to always pray. We've kept God in our temples, how callous we have grown. When earth is but His footstool, and Heaven is His throne. We've voted...

This brief video of Cruz's father is amazing-- it is a must watch if only a few minutes(total 9). Indeed, every true American should including the POTUS and staff. Some glaring similarities to where we are and where we are going http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=0Ym4Xt0T6fM Recommend you read and watch the video. Obama has no liking for Cruz, the least reason of which is because Cruz is Republican. Here are a few other factors: Cruz is academically superior. Cruz graduated cum laude from Princeton. Not the case for Obama. Cruz graduated magna cum laude from Harvard Law School. Not so for Obama. Cruz's mental...

An old friend who is like a brother to me was frustrated with an email response I sent him...and, in his frustration, he tried to insult me by calling me "an uniformed redneck." I obviously caused him pain, for which I am sorry--but not sorry for speaking the truth as I know it. In response, I composed this poem (but hey, Jack--as Uncle Si would say--I am not a poet...and I am a something less than a redneck). This is a poem of no rhyme or meter on the subject of rednecks. Prose I guess. Rednecks. I was never able...

Seamus Heaney, "acclaimed by many as the best Irish poet since Yeats," has died, the BBC and other news outlets are reporting. Heaney was 74 and had recently been in ill health. According to The Irish Times, he died Friday morning at the Blackrock Clinic in Dublin. Sky TV has a short statement from Heaney's family announcing his death. Writer and literary critic Ola Larsmo said then that Heaney's poetry reveals "a profound experience ... that...

Japanese police are hunting a poetry-writing killer after the bodies of five people were found in a tiny mountain village. The five victims represent a third of the population of the hamlet in western Yamaguchi prefecture, where police found three corpses on Sunday after two houses were burned to the ground. Investigators on Monday discovered the bodies of two more people, who reports said appeared to have been battered to death. All five of the dead were in their 70s or 80s. The chief suspect is a 63-year-old villager at whose home police found a "haiku" poem stuck to the...

“Year of meteors! Brooding year!” -Walt Whitman A remarkable astronomical event also occurred over the northeastern United States 153 years ago today on the night of July 20th, known as the Great Meteor Procession of 1860. And with it came a mystery of poetry, art and astronomy that was only recently solved in 2010. A meteor procession occurs when an incoming meteor breaks up upon reentry into our atmosphere at an oblique angle. The result can be a spectacular display, leaving a brilliant glowing train in its wake. Unlike early morning meteors that are more frequent and run into the...
