  • Report: China's Boasting Has Misled, Frustrated Search for Missing Malaysian Plane

The Times notes, however, that American, Australian, and other international officials are saying anonymously that China is a bigger nuisance to the search than Malaysia. The Chinese government, for example, announced early on that it had found debris matching the colors of a Malaysia Airlines Boeing 777. The debris, sighted on satellites, turned out to be unrelated fishing equipment, and the search for those items took valuable time out of searching for clues related to the flight. Similarly, Chinese media announced earlier this month that the vessel Haixun 01 had found radar signals similar to those of a flight recorder...

India has rejected a Chinese request to enter territorial waters in the Andaman Sea in an effort to search for the missing Malaysian Airlines flight MH370 over concerns that the request might be an excuse for military snooping. “There was no need for anybody else to search the area,” Press Trust of India, the country’s largest news agency, quoted unidentified government sources as saying. India thus “politely rejected” the Chinese request to allow People’s Liberation Army Navy shifts enter waters near the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The request was made on Wednesday and entailed the dispatch of four ships, including...

They were attempting to speak to Chinese journalists outside the daily press conference in Kuala Lumpur. Malaysian Airlines Flight 370 is no closer to being found as the disappearance of the Boeing 777 carrying 239 people nears its two-week mark. Pilot suicide, terrorism and hijacking are some possibilities that are being theorized to the plane as the search area expanded to 7 million square miles. According to the Times of Israel, Israel's Channel 2 has revealed that Israeli air defenses have been boosted, and approaching civilian aircraft will be asked to identify themselves far earlier. Though the flight was presumed at first to have crashed, whole or in pieces, into the ocean, passive satellite transmissions from the aircraft suggest that it made a deliberate course change and may have headed north into central Asia. Pakistan has already said that the flight never registered on its radar, but at least one expert has suggested the flight could have landed in Bangladesh, whose air defenses presumably would...

Prayers requested, please. My young second cousin and three other men are missing since Tuesday. They were flying from Marshall, Texas, to Casper, Wyoming, in a small Piper aircraft. No word from them. Search crews are out, as is his parents (dad is a pilot). No emergency beacon activated. They think they had a ping from a cell phone but found nothing in that area. Crews are searching. News story at the link. My cousin in on the left.

Romney’s wife, Ann, was in attendance, and the candidate spoke of the concern he had for her when her plane had to make an emergency landing Friday en route to Santa Monica because of an electrical malfunction. “I appreciate the fact that she is on the ground, safe and sound. And I don’t think she knows just how worried some of us were,” Romney said. “When you have a fire in an aircraft, there’s no place to go, exactly, there’s no — and you can’t find any oxygen from outside the aircraft to get in the aircraft, because the...

Bagram Airfield, Afghanistan: Though there's been a bit of damage to the C-17 regularly used by General Martin Dempsey, the Chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff -who was thankfully off sleeping in his quarters at the time of today's pre-dawn, two-rocket volley- was not hurt. No fatalities reported either, but two ground crew were injured and -of course- the Taliban are suspected, who else.Periodic shelling of Bagram -which is situated north of Kabul- has been known to occur, though it is rare for them to hit anything of value. But General Dempsey was in town for a pow-wow...
