In a dramatic incident at Tokyo’s Haneda airport, a Japan Airlines plane caught fire upon landing, with flames visible from the windows and beneath the aircraft. The alarming scene was captured by NHK, showing a runway ablaze. According to Tokyo’s fire department, the fire may have resulted from a collision between the JAL plane and a Japan Coast Guard aircraft.

Wow ! Japan is having a terrible start to 2024.
I wonder what size JCG Plane ? Like a C-130 or a smaller Patrol jet ?
Kinda looks like the JAL plane is dragging something at the front of it based on the fire location...
Thanks for the videos. I’m going to go with a smaller CG Plane getting hit by the front of JAL Plane.
Amazing they got everyone out of the JAL. Especially with the flames coming out of the JAL Cabin windows !!!
I’m not seeing any anti-collision light in front of JAL before the fireball happens
Instead of going to the site this poster started promoting here begining last Auguest, try

Preliminary reports have it as a DCH-8. It is a 50-70 seat twin turbo prop. Not sure how it would be configured for the JCG..
Thanks
If the Airbus was cleared to land, and landed on the correct runway, it -appears- to be a runway incursion by the JCG aircraft.
Reason #6 why I don’t fly commercial, anymore. Haven’t since July 1996, when TWA800 was shot down. If I can’t get there driving my Jeep GC HEMI V8, I don’t need to go there.

Per Mainichi, the captain managed to escape the CG plane.
I’m with You on that !!! I’ve been to Hawaii and Alaska is too cold for Me anymore. Been to Mexico back when it was relatively safe to go to. The 48 is great !!
“I’m not seeing any anti-collision light in front of JAL before the fireball happens”
What’s an ant-collision light? Thanks!
Thanks for the links. I suspected the runway in question was was next to Tokyo Bay
Its a long way to Japan by jeep…
</smile>
Personally, I have no reason to go there, so it’s not a problem, at all. At 74, and with the medical issues I now have, I don’t do any long distance traveling, as in my previous business life.
According to wikihahahapedia, the Japan Coast Guard has 8 (minus 1) Dash-8 aircraft outfitted for maritime surveillance. That means they’re loaded with electronics, not passengers.
