This was a while back but worth mentioning because its humorous. You read the headline correctly, a man shot his junk, that was not a typo. A 38-year-old Florida man by the name of Cedrick Jelks shot himself in the penis after sitting on his loaded handgun (probably a 1911). Sadly there isn't much info out there about the incident other than Jelks’ 25-year old girlfriend Shanekia Roberts reported Jelks sitting in his Nissan Altima by himself and then added a couple extra holes to his penis as well as a bullet wound to the thigh. Roberts said that he...

The GI's of WWII Insisted the 1911's were Inaccurate! There are numerous stories of GI’s returning from World War II complaining about the inaccuracy of the 1911A1, and since the 1911 can be one of the most accurate combat handguns why not put this myth to the test. Luckily, great minds think a like Dave Royer and Larry Vicker put together a test to debunk this myth. So they pitted an actual WWII US .45 cal with WWII 45 ACP ammunition against Larry's custom Colt 1911. Doesn't sound fair but let's wait to see the results. Results Though there were...

As America reels from yet another mass shooting, inevitable questions resurface about guns laws and the nation's pervasive firearm culture. Here is a look at per capita weapons data, based on the ATF's National Firearms Registration and Transfer Record, and 2013 data from the U.S. Census... ...it does not include categories like pistols, which make up a large percentage of the guns in the U.S.

This handgun drill is termed "The Charging Initiator", though the drill emphasis is on testing the shooter's reaction time, presentation against a buddy. But, the main goal is to have the shooters go from zero to full speed blasting away in a few seconds with accuracy. Check out the video here. What's your favorite handgun drills?

The U.S. Army's chief of staff is searching for alternatives to the multi-year Modular Handgun System effort, to include piggy-backing on Army Special Operations Command's current pistol contract. Gen. Mark Milley has used recent public appearances to criticize federal acquisition guidelines that all services must follow when choosing and purchasing weapons and equipment.

Ok, so we all have seen movies showing a person shooting at a vehicle tire with their pistol to deflate it. But, ever wonder, how effective is that with a 9mm? Well enter FullMag who was curious and decided to try out this experiment. The 9mm pistol cartridge has its lovers and its haters. How will a 9mm pistol hollow point bullet react when it hits a truck tire? FullMag set to try this out on a truck tire attached to a Ford F-150. The bullet cuts a nice hole on entry and air whizzes from this hole. Remarkably the...

A friend of mine recently forwarded me a question a friend of his had posed: "If/when our Federal Government comes to pilfer, pillage, plunder our property and destroy our lives, what good can a handgun do against an army with advanced weaponry, tanks, missiles, planes, or whatever else they might have at their disposal to achieve their nefarious goals? (I'm not being facetious: I accept the possibility that what happened in Germany, or similar, could happen here; I'm just not sure that the potential good from an armed citizenry in such a situation outweighs the day-to-day problems caused by masses...

U.S. Army Sgt. Ivan Schwartz survived D-Day and the Battle of the Bulge by remaining very, very careful. Schwartz had landed on Utah beach, going ashore when the sand was littered with dead men and smashed vehicles. He carried rounds for an 81-millimeter mortar, survived a close call when Allied planes dropped bombs close to friendly lines, and strung wire for a field telephone to a forward observer post while under artillery fire — an act that earned him the Bronze Star.

Gunmaker to craft pistols from chunk of prehistoric meteorite found in Africa nearly 200 years ago and sell them for $1million A high-end gunmaker is crafting a pair of pistols from a chunk of prehistoric meteorite and plans to sell them for $1million. Cabot Guns, based in Pittsburgh, has already made gun grips from a 77-pound meteorite and says the 'extra-terrestrial pistols' will go to auction in 2016. The semi-automatic .45 caliber pistols will be made from the meteorite, which is believed to have crashed to Earth 4.5billion years ago.

The never ending debate of which is better for every day carry and personal protection continues. Here are some folks had to say from Glocks and 1911 forums: Vintage68: I don't think anyone would say the Glock is a bad pistol because it's not. They're incredibly reliable, if ugly, tools. I think most people, at least on a 1911 forum, will say that that the feel of a 1911 in the hand and the trigger will beat the snot out of a Glock any day of the week. McMagic: 1911 is a much nicer platform. Glocks are notoriously hard to...

  • Why do they call it a .38 when it's actually a .357 ?

    08/08/2015 8:51:17 PM PDT · by virgil283 · 34 replies
"The early cartridge revolvers were simply modified cap and ball designs with the chambers drilled through so you could load from the breech end, The bullet must go inside the case, and the case must go inside the chamber. So the dimensional relationship between bullet, chamber and barrel is now out of whack. If the bullet was to fit inside the case, it would have to have a smaller diameter than the bore, and that wouldn't work. This problem was temporarily solved by using what were called "heeled" bullets (see below).

When I used to work at a gun store I was frequently asked what caliber was best for any given situation. It would have been nice if there had been some sort of magic death ray that I could have suggested, but there isn’t, and most people have a pretty flawed understanding of what actually happens when a bullet interacts with a human target. Here’s my take on it and personal reasoning behind selecting a 9mm round. For starters let’s examine a couple of concepts that don’t actually exist in the scientific world but everyone talks about anyway. I’m going...

I first saw the USFA ZiP .22 on USFA’s website and it immediately caught my attention. Why? Well, for starters it is unique—very unique. It captures the imagination, finding something truly new in firearms development is a bit of a rarity. John Browning and Paul Mauser can still say that most firearms are mere modifications of designs they pioneered 100 years ago. So on that merit alone, I wanted to check out this pistol. Secondly, being mainly polymer and uber-lightweight, this gun fills a niche for the survival crowd. It would fit easily in a backpack, truck or tackle box,...

ST. LOUIS • A St. Louis native stuck in Dubai for months awaiting trial on gun smuggling charges said he was acquitted today on all counts. Steve Dolan, 57, a Dubai-based vice president for international shipping firm APL, said he faced up to 50 years behind bars after authorities told him they found some 30,000 knock-off pistols in a shipping container last fall. The container, which also held liquid soap, was apparently switching ships in Dubai while en route from Turkey to Djibouti.
