Been a long time since I've carried concealed. I've traded, sold off or given to ex-wives most all my pistols. Down to an old Colt revolver in 32-20 and a Ruger .22 revolver.

So, I decided I'd get myself an early Christmas present. I'd about decided that with all the laws and such(permits, places of carry, having to declare if traffic stop...etc. etc.) that I'd just carry an Ar-15 or shotgun in my vehicle and be without otherwise.

So, I go down to my buddies Pawn Shop and plunk down my money for a G43. Fill out the proper paperwork and tell him "I'll be back in a couple of hours to pick it up".

Head back down there and he tells me "there is a hold on the approval. If you don't hear back from me before the 26th then you can pick it up then"

I filled out the paperwork properly. There is no reason I would be denied!

So, who was it again that said instant background checks were a good thing? Heck, I can wait. But this is B.S. The same B.S. that was the reason I decided not to carry for the last 10 years or so.

Now I'm damned worried about why this is being "put on hold". And whether I forgot something and inadvertently "lied" on my application. If "they" come to take me away I'll let ya'll know. If I have time........

“There is no reason I would be denied!”

Obviously they found out you are a registered Republican. Or worse yet a Freeper. :-)

My understanding is that in most states if you are not a CCW permit holder there’s a mandatory waiting period. May be Federal?

Last couple of times I’ve bought at a dealer, I’ve been told there was a ‘hold’. I have never been charged with a crime, let alone convicted of one. The last hold was just a matter of minutes, the others took the full 3 business days. But I did get the firearms. I wouldn’t worry about it, unless they turn you down.

This is the ‘background check loophole’ that some politicians have railed against. They can’t deny your right to acquire a firearm by simply putting you on an indefinite ‘hold’. They get three business days to find a legal reason to deny you or you get your gun. Enjoy your new Glock

Word from people in the know is that the NICS system is being overwhelmed with background checks. You won't see it in the media but after Paris, people are buying guns in record numbers. Lots of first time buyers too.

The other possibility is someone with the same last and first name is in the system as a criminal and you got flagged. It usually works out fine though so be patient. Keep us posted so we can see if system works as it should.

I know there is a wait for your concealed permit if yours is expired or you have to(as in my case) apply for a permit.

As far as the Instant background check, AFAIK that has nothing to do with Concealed carry. It is a Federal system.

You’re prolly one of those people on the terrorist watch list trying to buy guns. If so, they don’t tell you you are on the list. Could just be because NSA told Obama you’re a Freeper. Expect to hear from the IRS next.

That’s what I like about Louisiana. A 2015 ccw permit is approved as a background check. No need to run me. Just let them xeeox it and put it on file.

I have several and like them very much, nary an problem.

The 43 works a just little differently, there is some kind of catch when you try to remove/install the slide. The trigger is a little smoother than a stock G3 9mm. I use a Ruger LCR for my stealth gun and I’m still considering a 43 sometime down the road. I would probably have one now if they came out 2 years ago.

If you can possibly conceal a 19 it would be a better choice. It has a stellar proven track record and over twice the capacity. But if it’s too big, you’ll leave it home and it won’t be with you when you need it.

Any semi will need a semi monthly check and magazine swap. You may want to consider leaving a couple rounds out of the mag to make the mag springs last.

My only gripes about little guns is they aren’t any fun to shoot. A 19/17/34 is fun, and the 34 is the most fun to hone skills.

Women in particular have issues with Semi’s, they want one because they are sexy little things, but without serious practice they will get limp wrist jams every time.

Thanks for all the words of encouragement. My gun dealer friend told me “by the 26th” which happens to be Thanksgiving. That would be 4 business days(counting today)?

Whatever. This is still a bunch of crap. And folks say that we need more gun laws?

As far as the gun show thing. We have very few gun shows around here. And from what I understand most everything popular or not is overpriced. Getting a pretty good deal on the weapon. Not a steal, but I’m happy. At least I will be happy. Maybe. If it ever happens.

There is STILL a wait even when purchasing at gun shows if you live in the commie states. The main advantage of gun shows is REALLY GOOD PRICES.

Yep. I carried more or less regularly for several years. I preferred small of the back. Carried a Hi-Power mostly. Must have a big butt crack.....

It’s usually a problem with the FBI not being able to keep up, or someone with a similar name and they need to make sure it’s not identity theft.

I don’t know if they count Saturdays as working days, so if you filled out the paperwork today, three full working days could get you to Thanksgiving, which also isn’t a working day, so you’re looking at next Friday. I’d tell the dealer to call you if the approval comes in.

I have always suspected that a cousin who has my last name has muddied the water for me quick approvals!

Took TN Concealed Carry Class Nov. 5th, went the next day to pay my permit fee to the state, got fingerprinted and my permit came today in the mail. I’ve got an S&W 38 Airweight, but am considering a Glock 43, although my brother has encouraged me to get a Glock 26. I’ve also looked at a S&W M&P Shield.

I read about a woman concealing one in her vagina. Talk about your painful discharge.
