Ok, so we all have seen movies showing a person shooting at a vehicle tire with their pistol to deflate it. But, ever wonder, how effective is that with a 9mm?
Well enter FullMag who was curious and decided to try out this experiment.
The 9mm pistol cartridge has its lovers and its haters. How will a 9mm pistol hollow point bullet react when it hits a truck tire?
FullMag set to try this out on a truck tire attached to a Ford F-150. The bullet cuts a nice hole on entry and air whizzes from this hole. Remarkably the hollow point projectile almost completely penetrates the tire. It lodges in the tire just short of completely passing through. See the action here.
A 9mm can blow the damn truck up!!! I’ve seen it in movies.
Now this is a useful thread! Thanks!
I didn’t wait for the video to load, so I don’t know if the hollow point was the only shot he tried. But, it said the bullet didn’t penetrate the opposite tire wall. Would a full metal jacketed round have gone through both sides rather than shredding on impact? (just curious)
Make sure the truck is full of lobsters, they sell the best.
Wait are we talking about Hijacking?
I would like to see this test repeated on the tread portion of the tire. Sidewalls are the thinnest area on the tire. My guess is if someone is trying (don’t axe me why) to stop a car or truck, they would be shooting at the front or rear of it.
I do not dispute that the 9mm is a good round, but I do wonder if it has enough umph to penetrate up to an inch or more of tread.
only if it hit’s at close to a 90 degree angle....other wise I believe it wound just ricochet off.
How are you going to hit a truck tire if it’s moving?
Heck, well trained cops often can’t hit center of mass on a human being who is (comparatively) standing still!
Why shoot the tire?
Anything worth shooting is worth killing. Hit the driver.
Dang right! It also blows someone you shoot with it off his feet and sends him flying through the air. I've seen it on the big screen myself!
Also, I’ve noticed most, even without extended magazines seem to hold at least 20-30 rounds...amazing!
guns/ammo/ballistics thread, oh boy are you in for it! lol
9x19 FMJ will have better penetration than most rounds.

Yep, that’s what shotguns and 00 buck are for my friend. :^)
And those are the revolvers!
Heck, the .44 Mag was developed to pierce the fenders and engine block of a fleeing vehicle. I believe a .357 will do the same thing.
But why kill the car when you can kill the crook behind the wheel?
Ever watch “Last Man Standing” with Bruce Willis? His .45’s are amazing in the amount of bullets they hold.
I’d still like to see the shot on the tread from the rear.
Yes, I think the results would be different.
