--SNIP-- In the tradition of many in the NAACP, she brought it when it was her turn at the podium. The audience, who not that much earlier had been watching a mini fashion show put on by Philadelphia Fashion Week, appeared spellbound as Mosby shared her personal journey to become Baltimore's state attorney. She described how, after graduating magna cum laude from Tuskegee University, she got wait-listed at every law school to which she applied because of her LSAT scores. Mosby managed to get around that by calling and requesting interviews with admissions officers to persuade them that "my LSAT...

The archbishop of Philadelphia said Monday that Roman Catholic school officials who fired a married gay teacher showed uncommon “character and common sense.” Archbishop Charles J. Chaput said the nuns and board members who run Waldron Mercy Academy are not seeking controversy, but simply following the church’s teaching. Chaput, in a statement, thanked school leaders “for taking the steps to ensure that the Catholic faith is presented … in accord with the teaching of the church. They’ve shown character and common sense at a moment when both seem to be uncommon.” …

A Catholic school on the outskirts of Philadelphia has come under heavy attack in recent days after firing an openly lesbian teacher in a same-sex "marriage" with her partner. Since 2007, Waldron Mercy Academy knew that teacher Margie Winters had been "married" to her lesbian lover, and rather than firing her, they kept her on as Director of Religious Education for a total of eight years, under the advisement that she keep her gay relationship secret and not discuss it with students or parents. Though she kept the order, describing it to reporters as "hard," faithful Catholic parents eventually found...

--snip-- The cellphone video shows the boy cowering under the blows of a gang attack, and rolling into a ball to protect himself from being repeatedly kicked and punched. At one point, a male hits him in the face with a traffic cone, breaking his teeth. "This kid was an innocent person, he had done nothing to anybody," said Capt. Malachi Jones of the Philadelphia police. The attack happened two weeks ago as the boy was walking home from school. His tormentors, who were fellow students at Martin Luther King High School, can be heard laughing and yelling as all...

(VIDEO-AT-LINK)A U.S. bishop says homosexuals will be able to attend a global meeting of Catholic families in Philadelphia during a visit by Pope Francis. About 15,000 people are expected to attend lectures and take part in workshops during that five-day event in September, aimed at strengthening sacred family bonds. The pontiff will visit during the last two days of the meeting. Same-sex parents are becoming a reality despite religious and civil laws. The Catholic Church has firmly opposed same-sex marriages, but Pope Francis has expressed more tolerance for homosexuality than his predecessors. On Thursday, a U.S. bishop visiting the Vatican...

A court ruling striking down a Pennsylvania law that made it easier for gun-rights advocates like the National Rifle Association to challenge local gun ordinances is drawing strong reaction from both sides of the issue. A spokesman for Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter says Thursday’s Commonwealth Court ruling that the law is unconstitutional will allow municipalities to pursue common-sense gun safety requirements. Sen. Daylin Leach is one of five Democrats who joined in the challenge of the law. He says municipalities that repealed their gun ordinances because of the law can now restore them. An attorney for four pro-gun groups dismisses...

At least three people were killed and 10 injured in a spate of unrelated shootings across the city overnight. Among the wounded were three juveniles and seven adults struck by birdshot when two men opened fire during a crowded cookout in Mantua about 9:50 p.m. Saturday. All 10 victims were reported to be in stable condition Sunday. Witnesses told investigators the men fired a shotgun into the 4100 block of Ogden Street at least once, then drove down the street in a gold or silver four-door sedan and fired several more shots, possibly from a handgun.

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie came in second place with 11.6 percent of the vote, followed by Florida Sen. Marco Rubio at 11 percent. Former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum and former Florida Gov. A threat prompted the U.S. Navy to evacuate workers from two Philadelphia facilities Tuesday morning and raise the threat level to imminent. In turn, officials raised the threat level for those facilities from Bravo to Charlie — the second highest level — while evacuating workers around 10:20 a.m. Some workers said they were suddenly told they had to leave without being given an explanation. By noon, SkyForce10 captured crews blocking the entrance to the Northeast Philly facility with concrete barriers.

Up to 200 South Philadelphia residents organized a large protest this week to take a stand against what they describe as “racial attacks” from four black women towards white residents. Residents claim that these four women have been “terrorizing” the neighborhood. Speakers said things like “white lives matter” and held up signs saying things like “We know who you are!” and “White women’s lives matter.” And they’re not just upset at these women, they’re outraged that the police haven’t taken any serious action against them. 911 calls were placed, but there were reportedly zero reports taken. Anonymous individuals told WPVI...

  • Smoke And Wolves Inside The Church

In a post of mine three weeks ago, I touched upon several avenues by which the smoke of Satan is entering into the Catholic Church. In this post, I'll deal with several of these avenues. First we look at the various partnerships that the Vatican has struck with those opposed to the teachings of Jesus Christ (fifth bullet point). Caritas is reputedly the main social organization inside the Vatican. Yet as the Lepanto Institute and other organizations have pointed out, Caritas has been funding and even directing socialist organizations in their promotions of abortion, contraception, marxism etc. Lepanto has discovered...
