Five people were killed when a private helicopter with six people on board crashed into the East River in New York City on Sunday, authorities said. Three people transported to area hospitals after the crash later died, New York Fire Department spokesman Jim Long said. Two others were pronounced dead at the scene of the incident. The pilot freed himself and was taken to a hospital in "OK" condition, New York City Fire Commissioner Daniel Nigron told reporters Sunday night. The pilot was later named 33-year-old Richard Vance

A tourist helicopter plunged into the East River on Sunday night, leaving at least five people trapped inside the sinking vessel while the pilot scrambled to safety, police sources said. The Eurocopter AS350 went down around 88th Street, near Gracie Mansion, at about 7:15 p.m., sources said. The pilot was able to get out and climb aboard a raft — but five others remained trapped inside the upside-down helicopter, according to sources.

In October 2016, two men were target shooting in rural New York.  They were sighting in rifles for the upcoming deer season.They could see about a thousand feet, but there was no obvious backstop on the flat ground.  They had two .308 Winchester rifles, a Del-Ton AR, and a pistol. Rochester City Court Judge Leticia Astacio has been sent back to jail for allegedly violating her probation again by refusing to wear an ankle monitoring bracelet. Wasn't Astacio already in jail? Last month, she was in jail for violating her probation related to a drunken driving conviction. Last week, a hearing determined that she should be released due to a technicality. Simeon D. Mokhiber, 42, of upstate New York had a close call in court last week. Mokhiber is an Iraq combat veteran who served in the Army’s 82nd Airborne Division as well as the National Guard. Following his active duty service he worked private security details protecting U.S. officials in both Iraq and Afghanistan. But last year he was pulled over in Niagra County and charged with driving under the influence. (A charge which was dismissed.) The police found three 17-round Glock magazines in a container in his vehicle. There was no firearm in the car… just the magazines.
