Nevada’s GOP governor has come out against President Trump’s plan to send the National Guard to the U.S.-Mexico border. A spokeswoman for Gov. Brian Sandoval said in an email to the Associated Press Friday that Sandoval doesn’t believe deploying members to the border would be “an appropriate use” of the National Guard. The U.S. Air Force is grieving the loss of one of its own after a Thunderbirds training flight went tragically wrong. A Thunderbird pilot crashed during a demonstration at Nellis Air Force Base just outside of Las Vegas. The team says it was a routine flight and are now looking into what could have caused the crash. The accident came just a few days before the team was scheduled to perform at the March Field Air & Space Expo at March Air Reserve Base in California. In light of the tragedy, the performance has been canceled.

An Air Force F-16 jet crashed Wednesday at Nellis Air Force Base outside of Las Vegas, defense officials told Fox News. The status of the pilot, or pilots, was not immediately clear. In a statement, the Air Force said, “Emergency responders are on the scene. As soon as additional details become available, they will be provided. The accident is under investigation." The jet crashed around 10:30 a.m. during routine training at Nevada Test and Training Range, officials said.

Clark County School District educators have won an arbitration over their 2017-2018 contract that will provide increases in pay and health care contributions. The district says the estimated $52 million deal could cause another major budget shortfall. Teachers will move a step in the salary schedule effective June 1, 2018. The district’s contributions to health care through the Teachers Health Trust also will increase from roughly $538 to $583 a month. That increase will be retroactive to July 1, 2017.
