Full Title: Republicans Overturn Obama Decision To Deny Honors And Benefits To The Victims Of Fort Hood Terrorist Attack Sorry, Barack. This wasn’t “workplace violence.” It was a terrorist attack, and should be treated as such. Thanks to Republicans, it will be: Republicans on the House Armed Services Committee will overturn one consequence of Obama’s unwillingness to recognize the terrorism of the Fort Hood attack: victims will be eligible for the Purple Heart, allowing survivors to receive better and prompter health care from the VA. More than that, every victim will get the recognition and honor due to them. From...

During last week's memorial service for victims of April 2 Fort Hood shooting, President Barack Obama spoke about the lingering hurt from the previous attack on the base in 2009. "Part of what makes this so painful is that we've been here before," Obama said. "This tragedy tears at wounds still raw from five years ago. Once more soldiers who survived foreign war zones were struck down here at home, where they're supposed to be safe." Yet, when victims of the first Fort Hood shooting invited the president to see those wounds up close, he refused, without explaining why. The...

A Texas Army post has razed the building where a former psychiatrist carried out one of the worst mass shootings in U.S. history, with plans to put up trees and a memorial in its place. Fort Hood officials said Tuesday that they've torn down Building 42003, the site of a 2009 massacre that left 13 people dead and more than 30 wounded. The building was part of a processing center complex for soldiers deploying and returning from combat. On Nov. 5, 2009, then-Maj. Nidal Hasan carried two weapons inside, shouted "Allahu Akbar!" — "God is great" in Arabic — and...

Barry Rubin, a great strategic thinker and cartographer of the emerging post-American world, died today in Tel Aviv. I read him regularly and cited him in After America re the collectively insane urge of almost everyone Nidal Hasan encountered as he wafted upwards through the US Army to look the other way and not see what was staring them in the face: As the writer Barry Rubin pointed out, Major Hasan was the first mass murderer in US history to give a PowerPoint presentation outlining the rationale for the crime he was about to commit. And he gave it to...

Convicted Ft. Hood shooter Nidal Hasan gave the $300,000 collected in salary since 2009 to charity, leaving none for his victims or their families. According to CBS News, an "Army spokesman [says] the military can't get the money back because Hasan, like any other service member charged with a crime," was simply receiving his salary as required until he was convicted. Hasan's civil attorney John Gilligan added: "There's really no money in any bank that I'm aware of. There's really no property holdings." In other words, the victims of Hasan's attack will not be getting any funds from their attacker.

I’ve discovered some startling weirdness in the news of the day: A shooting rampage massacre was carried out this morning at an American military base in Washington, D.C., by a serviceman from the Dallas-Ft. Worth area of Texas, and has resulted in the deaths of thirteen people. A shooting rampage massacre was carried out four years ago at a military base in the Dallas-Ft. Worth area of Texas, by a serviceman from the Washington, D.C. area, and it resulted in the deaths of thirteen people. It’s early in the investigation and information is still coming in, but as I sat...

Officials said Fort Hood gunman Nidal Hasan was shaved after his move to death row and Texas legislators proposed a new compensation bill for shooting victims. Hasan, who was convicted in the 2009 shooting deaths of 13 people and injury of 31 others at the Texas military base, grew a beard for what he said were religious regions prior to the start of his court-martial. The move drew the ire of the judge, who found Hasan in contempt of court, causing a one-year delay of his trial. After Hasan, 42, was flown to Fort Leavenworth, Kan., Friday to be put...

Political correctness, that great misguided ennobler/enabler of disgruntled losers and embittered misfits, may have helped pave the way for Bradley Manning and Nidal Hasan to achieve infamy. Before his decision to start leaking highly sensitive military information to svelte albino panda cub Julian Assange in 2010, Bradley Manning gave his Army superiors every reason to suspect he was a mentally unstable and potentially violent homosexual who was perhaps too emotionally hypersensitive to be trusted with highly sensitive documents. Before he decided to blow away a baker’s dozen (plus a bun in the oven) with two handguns at Fort Hood in...

Appearing on CBS News last Thursday, Mueller was asked if his agency “dropped the ball.â€Â â€No, I think, given the context of the discussions and the situation that the agents and the analysts...

A military jury sentenced Maj. Nidal Hasan to death Wednesday for killing 13 people during the 2009 shooting rampage at Fort Hood. Hasan, who sat motionless as the jury president read the verdict, has said he acted to protect Islamic insurgents abroad from American aggression, never denied being the gunman. In opening statements, he acknowledged to the jury that he pulled the trigger in a crowded waiting room where troops were getting final medical checkups before deploying to Iraq and Afghanistan. Hasan had one final chance Wednesday to give a closing argument before his case went to the jury, but...

FORT HOOD – U.S. Army Maj. Nidal Hasan will be executed for the 2009 shooting rampage on post that left 13 people dead and more than 30 wounded. The jury panel of 13 U.S. Army officers delivered the verdict on post moments before 2 p.m. Wednesday. They deliberated for less than three hours. Last Friday, the same panel unanimously found Hasan guilty of 13 counts of premeditated murder and 32 counts of attempted premeditated murder for the 2009 shooting rampage at Fort Hood. This sentencing verdict ends the court martial after 17 days. In it, Hasan, who defended himself, never...

Maj. Nidal Hasan and many of his victims in the Fort Hood shooting seem to want the same thing—his death. But while survivors and relatives of the dead view lethal injection as justice, the Army psychiatrist appears to see it as something else—martyrdom. …

Army Maj. Nidal Hasan was convicted Friday in the 2009 shooting rampage at Fort Hood, a shocking assault against American troops at home by one of their own who said he opened fire on fellow soldiers to protect Muslim insurgents abroad. A jury of 13 high-ranking military officers reached a unanimous guilty verdict on all charges -- 13 counts of premeditated murder and 32 counts of attempted premeditated murder -- in about seven hours. Hasan is now eligible for the death penalty. Hasan had no visible reaction as the verdict was read. After the jury and Hasan left the courtroom,...
