The Trump era National Instant background Check System (NICS) hit another record month in April, 2018. Background checks recorded by the FBI numbered 2,223,213 in April. The next highest April recorded was in 2016, with 2,145,565. The total NICS checks for the first four months of 2018 numbered 9,354,635.  That is  6.8% higher than the first four months of 2017, which numbered 8,756,657. 2018 is on track to replace 2017 as the year with the second highest number of NICS checks. April 2018 saw the most gun-related checks run through the Federal Bureau of Investigation's background check system. The National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) ran 2,233,213 checks in April, according to an FBI document. That's nearly 90,000 more checks than the previous April record set in 2016. The March number of National Instant background Criminal Checks hit an all-time record.  The 2018 numbers in the chart are from the second year of the Trump Presidency. The number of checks in March 2018 was 2,767,699. That is 245,000 more than in 2016, the previous all-time record for of 2,523,265.  The number of checks for the first quarter of 2018 is 7,131,422. The second year of the Trump era of the National Instant Background Check System (NICS) has started with numbers the same as the first year. There were 2,030,530 checks done in January of 2018.
