The Trump era National Instant background Check System (NICS) hit another record month in April, 2018. Background checks recorded by the FBI numbered 2,223,213 in April. The next highest April recorded was in 2016, with 2,145,565.
The total NICS checks for the first four months of 2018 numbered 9,354,635. That is 6.8% higher than the first four months of 2017, which numbered 8,756,657. 2018 is on track to replace 2017 as the year with the second highest number of NICS checks. The record was set in 2016.
In 2016, a presidential election year, it was fear of a Hillary Clinton victory. Presidential candidate Hillary Clinton embraced numerous restrictions on gun ownership. Fear of her election drove NICS numbers to record levels.
In 2018, the political signals are not as clear. In April, President Trump seemed to waver, hinting that he might support some restrictions on gun sales. Those fears were dispelled when he spoke at the NRA annual meeting in Dallas on May 8th. Fears of a “blue wave” of Democrat victories in the House, with notable Democrats calling for a Trump impeachment, may have been a factor.
In times of uncertainty, people desire security. Possessing a firearm and ammunition offer a basic level of security.
NICS checks are performed for several reasons. The number of NICS checks is not the same as the number of new gun sales.
NICS checks are performed for the sale of used guns.

They will use the “moms know best and care the most about our children” propaganda to ban all defense firearms.
I heard one leftist ahole (and also an Indian immigrant whose husband has made millions here) say to me, “We’ll let you your shawt-guns.”

And fight to defend the 2nd Amendment NOW like never before. Do not wait. Shut their arguments down NOW.

For the gungrabbers, the masks are off. They want confiscation, pure & simple. But that won’t happen until a national registration law is passed & the po-po know where every law-abiding gun owner’s guns are, just like in Australia & UK.
In the meantime, there is a real confiscation danger with the growing number of GVRO or Red Flag laws, which allow anyone with a beef against a gun owner to denounce him to the po-po as a danger to others. Warrant issued, guns gone, & without any prior registration except some snitch’s word.
Look at Calmexifornia: its Red Flag law allows absolutely anyone to denounce a gun owner, and there is a state level confiscation squad to go around knocking on doors to seize guns. And the only penalty for making false official statements to the police or a judge (which is perjury, a felony) is a mildly applied misdemeanor.
When the truth is that these school shootings are a direct result of $hitty parenting by those same “self-absorbed moms,” and their sperm donor husbands! I mean how, in each of these recent instances could these “killers” aberrant behavior be “missed” by their “moms, to say nothing of the uninvolved LEOs and school authorities?

Alarming that the citizens have allowed these Soviet-style tactics to be put in place.
And ironic (hypocritical, actually) that these leftists who are denouncing Trump for their fabricated Russian collusion are the ones that actually love the system of Soviet-style socialism.
All armed citizens need to be very careful about who they talk about their firearms or shooting interests with. This includes being somewhat secretive when loading your firearms in your vehicle for a trip to the range.
The Surveillance State is not only here, it is living next door.
