Andy Bathgate, a Hall of Fame hockey player who spent much of his 18-year career with the New York Rangers as one of the most prolific goal scorers of his day, died Feb. 26 in Brampton, Ont. He was 83. The Rangers confirmed the death. He reportedly had Parkinson’s disease and Alzheimer’s disease. Chicago Blackhawks star Patrick Kane will not face criminal charges after a woman claimed she was raped by the NHL player at his home near Buffalo in early August. Erie County District Attorney Frank A. Sedita III released the findings Thursday morning: The Town of Hamburg Police Department and the Office of the Erie County District Attorney have conducted an exhaustive investigation over the course of the past three months regarding allegations made by a 21 year-old woman that 26 year-old Patrick Kane raped her on his bed. (AP) — The lawyer of a woman accusing Chicago Blackhawks star Patrick Kane of sexual assault abruptly quit the case Thursday night, saying he's no longer comfortable representing the woman because of how her mother reported finding an evidence bag they believed once held the woman's rape kit. UNIONDALE -- Al Arbour, who coached the New York Islanders to four consecutive Stanley Cup championships and ranks as the NHL's second-most winningest coach, has died, team officials announced Friday. He was 82. The cause of death is unclear, though Arbour was battling Parkinson's Disease and dementia. He had been living in Florida. Hall of Famer Marcel Pronovost, who spent 15 years with the Detroit Red Wings before capping his playing career with a five-year run in Toronto, has died. He was 84. Pronovost won the Stanley Cup five times as a player and recorded 88 goals and 257 assists in 1,206 regular-season games. He moved into coaching after his retirement and had served as a scout for the New Jersey Devils since 1990.

Eric Lindros has launched a $250,000 defamation lawsuit against former NHL referee Paul Stewart and the Huffington Post, after Stewart wrote a column for the online news website that allegedly made the former Philadelphia Flyers star forward look like a "dickhead." In documents filed in an Ontario court, Lindros says his reputation has been sullied after Stewart wrote about his poor on-ice relationship with Lindros, which was capped by an incident when Lindros allegedly tore up posters he was asked by Stewart to autograph for a charity.

Former NHL defenseman Steve Montador died at age 35, as first reported by TVA’s Renaud Lavoie. The Mississauga News reports that he was found dead at his home at 2 a.m. on Sunday morning. Police do not suspect foul play. Montador last performed in the NHL for the Chicago Blackhawks in 2011-12. He played 571 regular season games spread out between the Calgary Flames, Florida Panthers, Buffalo Sabres, Anaheim Ducks, Boston Bruins and Blackhawks. Jean Beliveau, one of the greatest legends to ever play in the National Hockey League, has passed away. He was 83. Elected to the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1972, Beliveau scored 507 goals and 712 assists in 1,125 games over parts of 20 seasons, all as a member of the Montreal Canadiens. Beliveau was the first player to win the Conn Smythe Trophy as Stanley Cup playoffs MVP, winning the award in the Canadiens’ 1965 victory over the Chicago Blackhawks. VANCOUVER, British Columbia -- The Vancouver Canucks honored late coach Pat Quinn in a pregame ceremony on Tuesday night. A moment of silence was held for Quinn before the Canucks hosted the New Jersey Devils. A video tribute was played while Mark Donnelly sang "Danny Boy." Canucks players wore "PQ" decals on their helmets that will remain for the rest of the season. Quinn, who died Sunday at 71 following a long illness, was a defenseman with the original Canucks team that entered the NHL in the 1970-71 season.

The Ottawa Senators and Toronto Maple Leafs gathered at the National War Memorial on Sunday to pay their respects to fallen soldiers, including Cpl. Bob Suter, a member of the 1980 U.S. "Miracle on Ice" team and father of Minnesota Wild defenseman Ryan Suter, died Tuesday. He was 57. "We are very saddened by today's news that Minnesota Wild scout Bob Suter suddenly passed away," the Wild said in a statement. "The Wild organization sends its condolences to the entire Suter family during this difficult time. Not only was Bob a great hockey ambassador, he was a terrific person off the ice who will be greatly missed by all of us." The cause of death was not given.
