Lawyer for (Blackhawks Patrick) Kane accuser abruptly quits over evidence bag

BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) — The lawyer of a woman accusing Chicago Blackhawks star Patrick Kane of sexual assault abruptly quit the case Thursday night, saying he's no longer comfortable representing the woman because of how her mother reported finding an evidence bag they believed once held the woman's rape kit.

Thomas Eoannou told reporters he doesn't believe the story he was told about how the bag was found. But he said he's still confident in the woman's allegations against Kane.

"I don't know how that reflects, and I don't think it does, on the night in question," Eoannou said of the confusion over the bag.

The woman's mother did not immediately respond to a message seeking comment from The Associated Press. The AP does not identify people who may have been sexually assaulted unless they have come forward and voluntarily identified themselves.

Well, what do you know....The lawyer for Patrick Kane's accuser held a presser yesterday to claim that the evidence against Kane was tampered with. He claimed the Buffalo PD mishandled the evidence. Now he's withdrawing himself from the case because he's uncomfortable with the mother's story of how the Rape Kit suddenly appeared at her doorstep. Buffalo PD says they have the Rape Kit and that evidence was never tampered with. He just quit saying "misrepresentations" were made by the mother regarding the evidence bag. Basically he said they lied. Someone needs to go to jail for this and it ain't Patrick Kane.

Nobody's guilty until proven guilty. Following the Blackhawks this never sounded like Kane to me. He's a brawler. He's a drinker. But I don't think he's a rapist. He picks up girls and takes them home to show off his castle. I think he was drunk but nobody ever said he drugged the woman or anything. The prosecutor is known to be tough on everyone and especially in high profile cases. After the case is dropped she will hire someone else sue Kane for big money. It's sad because most women are raped by creeps who have no money to shower on them after they commit their crime. Kane needs to wake up to the fact that there are predators out there who are after something more than a one night stand.

If you are a celebrity, it’s really stupid to bring someone to your house.

I thought the whole point of being a celebrity was to get everyone to adore you and want to come to your house and spend some time with you.

Most call them 'fans'.

Fan is short for fanatic. Something to think about.

My grandfather said that very same thing to me. I’ve never forgotten it.

Odd all around. In the Duke lacrosse case, the “rape kit” was sealed, then re-opened a couple of times weeks later and the info was altered to fit Mangum’s changing versions of events.

(Once sealed, those kits are supposed to not be opened until trial. They are evidence, and there is a strict chain of possession.)

Nobody was punished in that case for obstruction of justice or for evidence tampering or for attempting to frame innocent persons (for a crime which never happened).

If there was tampering in the Kane case, I don’t expect the DA to do anything (or anything more than just verbally admonish the rape “victim”).

Kane also had friends with him (perhaps they should be better judges of the girls he meets in bars) and he has an off-duty Buffalo Cop hired to be his driver/security when he is out. He’s rarely alone.

I also don’t believe Kane to be a rapist. He’s not a brawler, at least on the ice - he’s too small and that’s not his game.

The fact the accuser’s lawyer just quit but an end to the whole case. I hope Kane and the Hawks can put it all behind them now.

Also, for what its worth, Kane’s lawyer has stated that DNA evidence showed the semen of 2 OTHER men was present on the woman’s genitals, but NOT Kane’s

I’ve been looking for other sources confirming this, but haven’t found any.

i don’t abide by rape and i’m pretty sure its a common sentiment here. We don’t know who the victim is here yet. It nay be the accused or it may be the accuser. Your statement seems to assume Kane is guilty on this woman’s word.
