From the video: "I’m currently working with the Mississippi Department of Public Safety and Mississippi Office of Homeland Security to determine the current status of any Syrian refugees that may be brought to our state in the near future. I will do everything humanly possible to stop any plans from the Obama administration to put Syrian refugees in Mississippi. The policy of bringing these individuals into the country is not only misguided, it is extremely dangerous. I’ll be notifying President Obama of my decision today to resist this potential action." “[We have taken] none so far, so certainly we can...
  • Dak Prescott is right on time — for Dallas and for America (Semi-barf)

The new face of America’s Team is a biracial, tatted-up, whip-smart, unflappable 23-year-old, who in about the time it takes to open the roof at AT&T Stadium went from being a let’s-see-what-the-unheralded-rook-can-do emergency starter to The Man on the NFL’s hottest club. Prescott’s stunning rise (remember, dude was a fourth-round pick whom the Cowboys backed into) has been the talk of the league – and the conversation hasn’t been confined to his success on the field. To even the non-woke, it’s obvious that the Cowboys are in a new place. That means the rest of the NFL is, too.

Faced with a public records request from Mississippi Today for the state's contract with EdBuild, a legislative committee voted Tuesday to adopt a new policy mandating that all contracts it approves be confidential. The House Management Committee, which approves contracts entered into by the House of Representatives, voted 7-3 to pass the policy, which states "All contracts entered into by the House Management Committee shall be confidential and shall not be released to any person or entity, except as specifically directed by the House Management Committee only when the committee deems necessary for the execution of the contract." The action...

With samples back from the Jackson crime lab, authorities have determined a flammable substance was not used to ignite the fire at Hopewell MB Church. Greenville Fire Chief Ruben Brown earlier today said “the crime lab returned negative on all samples for a flammable substance.” The fire, he said, still has been ruled as arson, though.

A new report finds that the United States fails to uphold the most basic rights of workers, particularly in the South, where some states "support or collude with employers to infringe upon workers’ rights to peaceful assembly and association." The report cited examples such as Tennessee officials’ opposition to unionization at a Volkswagen plant and the "government of Mississippi [which] touts the lack of unionization as a great benefit when courting potential employers."

Tarunkumar and Sachin Patel wanted to find a way so that more of their friends and business associates from India could get permanent legal status to remain in the United States. But they admitted Monday their plans were federal crimes. Now they and up to 17 others face prison time. The men said that in 2011 they arranged four sham marriages between their friends and American women the two Patels had met. The two are business acquaintances. Then in 2014, Tarunkumar Patel said he began bribing a Mississippi police officer to create false crime reports in an effort to get...

The projected Electoral College vote count hasn't changed from last week's polls, but Donald Trump is narrowing the margin with Hillary Clinton in several states. WASHINGTON, Oct. 3 (UPI) -- Donald Trump gained support in nearly every state in the past week, expanding leads in some and gaining on Hillary Clinton in several other key swing states, a state tracking poll released by UPI/CVoter on Monday indicates. Trump gained support in 45 of the 50 states, as well as in Washington, D.C., with the biggest shifts coming in Idaho, Mississippi and Minnesota, in Monday's release, which includes polling data gathered...

More than a year ago we published Jim Simpson's masterful report, "Black Criminals, White Victims, and White Guilt." He examined the facts about black-on-white crime. What's more, Simpson singled out commentators like CNN's Marc Lamont Hill, a racial agitator fired by Fox News for defending cop-killers, and spreading misleading statistics about police shootings. Hill idolizes Assata Shakur, a former Black Panther and member of the Black Liberation Army, who killed New Jersey State Trooper Werner Foerster by shooting him in the head. She escaped from prison with the help of the Weather Underground and now lives in Cuba. Incredibly, in...

A man has been arrested in the stabbing deaths of two nuns whose bodies were found in their home in rural Mississippi, authorities said. Margaret Held and Paula Merrill, both nurse practitioners, failed to show up for work Thursday at a clinic in Lexington, where they served one of the state’s poorest counties. Authorities believe the killer took the victims’ car, a blue Toyota Corolla, which was later found on an abandoned road less than a mile from their home. But nothing was taken from the house, according to a law enforcement official who has been briefed on the investigation.
  • Guns are tax-free in Mississippi this weekend

It's the Magnolia State's fourth Second Amendment Sales Tax Holiday. It's the busiest weekend for businesses like Philadelphia Gun and Pawn. "It has been [in past years] so busy that we feel like we lost sales because we couldn't wait on everybody," says manager Richard Ray. In addition to items being tax-free, specials are being run to help buyers save even more. "If you spend a $1,000 you're already going to save $70. And everybody gets a chance to get a break on the taxes, which everybody needs to save money, and I can understand why," says Ray. Philadelphia Gun...

Two Catholic nuns were found dead inside their Mississippi home after they didn’t show up to work Thursday, according to police. Both women had stab wounds, the Durant police chief told WJTV. The nuns have been identified as Sister Paula Merrill and Sister Margaret Held. Merrill worked with the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth in Kentucky and Held with the School Sisters of St. Francis in Milwaukee. “These were the two sweetest sisters you could imagine,” Father Greg Plata told the Clarion-Ledger. “It’s so senseless.” Authorities believe the women may have been victims of a robbery, according to the paper....

Nigel Farage may tonight tell the “Brexit story” to around 10,000 Donald Trump supporters in Jackson, Mississippi. He is rumoured to be speaking about the lessons he learned during his successful campaign to leave the European Union (EU). The outgoing UK Independence Party (UKIP) leader has framed the historic vote as a “victory of ordinary people against big business, big banks and big politics”. His appearance at Mr. Trump’s Jackson rally tonight comes as voters across the West are increasingly rejecting “establishment” politics. The popular Member of the European Parliament is to meet Republican presidential candidate Mr Trump tonight at...
