Yesterday, I broke my long-standing streak of not having seen an Academy Award winning/nominated movie in several years. A friend talked me into seeing "Birdman," the film starring Michael Keaton. It was perhaps the most excruciating 2 or so hours of my life. Much of the time I couldn't follow what was going on. The basic plot is about a one-time super hero actor now working on a Broadway play. Half the time I didn't know what was the play and what was "reality." Then there were the F bombs. Now I'm not a prude and can tolerate foul language...

With each milestone in its development, the Gosnell movie makes it harder and harder for the media to ignore the name of “America's biggest serial killer.” FX’s Justified star Nick Searcy will direct Gosnell, a crime drama telling what the media refused to – the story of convicted Philadelphia abortionist Kermit Gosnell. The Hollywood Reporter broke the story March 18 and detailed how Searcy felt “both excited and humbled” to voice the “story that many in Hollywood were unwilling to tell.”

Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) on Tuesday starred in a cameo for "Sharknado 3," the cult-classic fantasy movie series featuring vicious, airborne sharks riding deadly tornadoes from the sea. Tim Burton is to direct Disney's live action remake of the 1941 classic Dumbo. The iconic cartoon will be remade as a live-action movie with computer generated characters playing the big-eared elephant and his family. One thing that bugs me about certain films is when a foreign character is played by an obviously "too American" actor. It doesn't mean the film is ruined but often great movies are jarring when that obviously "too American" actor has a scene. One such movie that was otherwise great was "The Blue Max." It’s not very often that Hollywood unleashes two major theatrical bombs over the same weekend. But that’s what happened when “Jupiter Ascending” and “Seventh Son” both crashed and burned in U.S. theaters on Friday. Warner Bros.’ “Jupiter Ascending,” starring Channing Tatum and Mila Kunis, is quickly dropping in estimates to a thin $18 million weekend at the box office. With a budget north of $175 million, the Wachowskis sci-fi fantasy tentpole could lose tens of millions barring a dramatic turnaround overseas.

The Wachowski siblings’ “Jupiter Ascending” is not “The Matrix,” according to the majority of critics panning the science fiction spectacle starring Channing Tatum as an intergalactic bounty hunter and Mila Kunis as the oblivious heir to the universe. The Warner Bros. release has 31 percent “rotten” approval rating from 49 critics counted, so far, by Rotten Tomatoes. Unfortunately, even the 15 reviews the critic aggregator considers “fresh” aren’t very positive.
