As tension mounted here in anticipation of Sunday protests against President Mohamed Morsy, another foe emerged for many Egyptians: the United States. SNIP For months, Egyptian liberals and moderates have grown angrier over what they say is inexplicable U.S. support for Islamists. In Tahrir Square, Cairo's epicenter of protest since 2011, graffiti near the Egyptian Museum declares: “Down with the Brotherhood, Down with America!” On a downtown building, a poster shows a distorted portrait of U.S. Ambassador Anne Patterson over the words, “Crone, Go Home.” On a nearby corner, another poster says, “Obama supports terrorism.” SNIP In a recent speech,...

Egypt was plunged further towards civil war yesterday after dozens of supporters of deposed president Mohamed Morsi were shot dead by the army. More than 50 people were killed and 435 injured in an attack condemned by Turkey as a ‘massacre’. The clash has led to calls from Islamists for an all-out rebellion against the military – which ousted the democratically-elected leader in a coup last week. The killings took place outside the Republican Guard building in Cairo, where some believe Mr Morsi is being held.

CAIRO (CNN) —The Egyptian military opened fire on supporters of the deposed president, Mohamed Morsy, and the Muslim Brotherhood, early Monday, killing more than 30 people. The health ministry put the number of fatalities at 34, and said 200 others were wounded. CNN counted at least eight bullet-riddled bodies and up to 40 wounded at the chaotic emergency facility in the Egyptian capital, down the street from the site of the shooting. The upper bodies of the victims appeared to be peppered with shotgun pellets and bullet wounds. Doctors tended to the victims, performing surgeries in many cases before shipping...

Just weeks after TheBlaze’s exclusive report that claimed the U.S. State Department was “actively considering” transferring Omar Abdel-Rahman, or the “Blind Sheikh” to Egypt, Egyptian President Mohammed Morsi publicly called on the U.S. to allow the convicted terrorist to serve out the rest of his sentence at home in Egypt, state media reported on Thursday, according to AFP. “I will do everything in my power to secure freedom for… detainees, including Sheikh Omar Abdul Rahman,” Morsi said. “What I want is to intervene for humanitarian reasons, not to interfere in a court ruling,” Morsi reportedly told members of the Egyptian...

Insults to the Islamic prophet Muhammad are part of an organized assault on Muslim religious and cultural values and cannot be brushed aside, Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi said Wednesday, rejecting the case for free speech made by President Obama just a day earlier. “The obscenities that I have referred to that were recently released as part of an organized campaign against Islamic sanctities are unacceptable,” Morsi said, referring to a crude Internet video that mocks Islam. We reject this. We cannot accept it,” Morsi said, his voice thin with anger. “We will not allow anyone to do this by word...

Indeed, at the precise moment Panetta was meeting Morsy, the new president was releasing Islamist terrorists from Egyptian prisons. These include terrorists from Islamic Jihad, which is part of the al-Qaida coalition! How do you square that one, secretary Panetta? And finally, Morsy pointed out to Panetta that his own son was born in California, when the future Egyptian president was studying there. His son, Morsy pointed out, could be the president of the United States one day. This is all you need to know: The US government asked its good buddy Egyptian President Mohamed Morsy to inspect an Iranian...

The son of Omar Abdel Rahman, a Jama’a al-Islamiya leader known as the “Blind Sheikh” who was convicted of terrorism charges in the US in 1995, threatened to organize a protest at the US Embassy in Cairo and detain the employees inside. Abdallah Abdel Rahman’s threat came during a press conference organized by the sheikh’s family near the highly fortified American embassy compound on Thursday evening. Abdel Rahman demanded that President Mohamed Morsy intervene for the release of his father as he did in the case of Egyptian journalist Shaimaa Adel who was detained for nearly two weeks for covering...

Is this the democratic Muslim world President Obama called for in his much-publicized Cairo address three years ago? Chaos there and a US impotent to do much of anything about it? With the election this past weekend of Mohammed Morsi as president, Cairo became capital to an Egypt under the banner of the Islamist Muslim Brotherhood. Obama’s 2009 speech, recall, was a mishmash of moral equivalence—apologizing for US intervention in the Middle East; comparing the CIA’s alleged role in the 1953 Iranian coup to the 1979 Iranian Revolution’s hostage-taking and subsequent state-sponsorship of terror. Most reasonable people were at least...

Egypt’s Constitution should be based on the Koran and Sharia law, presidential candidate from the Muslim Brotherhood Islamist movement Mohamed Morsi said. “The Koran is our constitution, the Prophet is our leader, jihad is our path and death in the name of Allah is our goal,” Morsi said in his election speech before Cairo University students on Saturday night. Today Egypt is close as never before to the triumph of Islam at all the state levels, he said. “Today we can establish Sharia law because our nation will acquire well-being only with Islam and Sharia. The Muslim Brothers and the...

(Reuters) - Iran's Foreign Ministry congratulated Egyptians on Sunday over the victory of Islamist Mohamed Morsy in the country's first free presidential election and said the country was in the final stages of an "Islamic Awakening". Muslim Brotherhood candidate Morsy defeated former general Ahmed Shafik to succeed President Hosni Mubarak, who was overthrown last year after a popular revolt against his rule. "The foreign ministry of the Islamic Republic of Iran congratulates the victory of the Egyptian nation in these elections and the presidency of Doctor Mohammed Morsy," it said in a statement on the Iranian Students' News Agency (ISNA)....
