CCTV footage of a baby's miracle escape when a pram was slammed by a peak-hour train has been released. Witnesses at a suburban Melbourne station feared the worst but were stunned when the six-month-boy was hauled from the tracks with little more than a bump on his head. The near-miss happened at Ashburton station as a city-bound train pulled into the station just after 4pm yesterday. The baby was strapped into a three-wheeler pram that rolled forward and toppled on to the tracks. The pram was carried 30 metres as the desperate driver tried to pull up the 250-tonne train....

MELBOURNE, Australia — A 6-month-old baby has miraculously survived a train hitting his stroller, which rolled onto the tracks when his mother let go for an instant. The escape was captured on security camera footage that shows the red, three-wheeled stroller plunging off a station platform just as the commuter train pulls in, and the mother's panicked lunge to grab it. The train pushed the stroller about 130 feet (40 meters) along the tracks before it stopped, but it did not go under the train. The baby, who was strapped into the stroller, received only a bump on the head....

Grieving father finds 'dead' baby son ALIVE in coffin Premature: Doctors said the baby boy's heartbeat was undetectable A premature baby declared dead by doctors was found to be alive hours later when he was taken home for a funeral wake. The baby's father, Jose Alvarenga, was told by doctors that his son had died shortly after birth. Staff from the state-run hospital in Asuncion, the Paraguayan capital, delivered the infant's body to Mr Alvarenga's home fours hours later. Shortly afterwards, the grieving father opened the baby's coffin to bid an emotional farewell to his son. "I opened it to...

Here is a video report on a premature baby boy weighing just over one pound (500 grams) in Paraguay who was pronounced dead at a hospital, but who "woke up" as he was taken from a box to be placed in preparation for his own wake! When the baby was removed from the box, he began to cry and move his arms and legs. The family both overjoyed and angry. Officials are investigating to see how this could happen. Doctors pronounced the boy dead and signed his death certificate as well. Wouldn't that be some king of a surprise! ....

In the new series of videos on the Sunday readings we've been making at JP Catholic, we've been focusing on the Feeding of the Five Thousand and John 6. If you haven't seen it you can find the latest one here. Here I want to go a little deeper than I'm able to go in the videos.Feeding of the Multitudes and ElishaScholars generally recognize that Jesus’ miracle of the multiplication of the loaves and fish evokes the story of Elisha's miracle of the loaves in 2 Kings 4: 2 Kings 2:42–44: A man came from Baal-shalishah, bringing the man of...

Today I saw Angela Logan from Teaneck, New Jersey, on a newscast. I was as impressed with her story. Angela is a 55-year-old mother who faced hard times. She is an actress, a former dancer, a substitute teacher and currently attends a community College studying to be a Nurse. She was doing everything she could do to pay her mortgage, care for herself and her family and move forward in life. Sadly, a number of misfortunes placed her family in peril of losing their home in these economically troubling times. That is when her story really began. She tells it...

Yeah sure, God become man. And He definitely rose from the dead. But there's no way he multiplied loaves and fishes for people to eat. That's the logic of so many when they deny the physical nature of the miracle of loaves and fishes from yesterday's Gospel. What is the problem some people have with this miracle? I've heard it argued (even from the pulpit) that this was not a physical miracle but a spiritual one in that the people were so moved by Jesus' words that they shared. Come on, if it was just about sharing, do they really...

Like a lot of 17-year -olds, Zac Sunderland can get a bit tongue-tied at times. Only for Sunderland, it's not on account of hormones or nerves. "I've been out at sea for a long time," says Sunderland, who has nearly reached his goal of becoming the youngest sailor to single-handedly circumnavigate the earth in a sailboat. "You kinda forget how to talk. Sometimes I'll get into a port and it'll take a week before the words I'm wanting to say can come out of my mouth the right way. It's annoying." Sunderland, who has yet to get his driver's license,...

Last week we witnessed Jesus' divine power at work on the forces of nature (Mark 4:37-41). Today's Gospel stories reveal his power over disease and death. In these powerful accounts, Jesus reminds us of the importance of faith. Nothing is possible without faith. On the way to Jairus' house (Mark 5), Jesus encounters interruptions, delays, and even obstacles along the road. The people in the passage transfer their uncleanness to Jesus, and to each Jesus bestows the cleansing wholeness of God. Let us consider for a moment each situation. The hemorrhaging woman Jesus' miraculous healing of this woman who...

Everybody had buddies in the 1960's, and some went to Nam, some did not return, some did well, and some, like myself and my high school buddy, Wayne Crumley, had let's say, extra trouble after coming back. I'm talking Joe Dirt trouble. Wayne drove around in an expensive "hippie" van that had air-brushed naked ladies painted on the sides. Of course, the van was red - as red as my face is now for thinking of those days. He also owned a boat, and had a Pontiac GTO - while in High School. Even with all that, kids still made...

Although the novel technique was used to reverse blinding corneal disease, it promises to be a quick, painless and cheap treatment for other visual disorders. It may even be useful for repairing damaged skin, the researchers reported today in the journal Transplantation. The team leader, UNSW stem cell scientist Nick Di Girolamo said: We're quietly excited. We don't know yet if (the correction) will remain stable, but if it does it's a wonderful technique. According to team member Stephanie Watson - an opthalmic surgeon with Sydney's Prince of Wales Hospital - two of the three patients were legally blind in...

A touch frustrated by reporters here in Istanbul questioning why more had not been achieved by Barack Obama during his eight-day European trip, David Axelrod, the president's closest aide, was moved to invoke Moses. "Why didn't the waters part, the sunshine, and all ills of the world disappear because President Obama came to Europe this week?" he asked before answering, to press chuckles: "That wasn't our expectation. That will take at least a few weeks." During the 2008 election campaign, John McCain mocked Obama by comparing him to Moses and calling him "the One", a self-appointed saviour of the world....

... Unfortunately, many theologians have decided that claims made by the majority of scientists represent scientific facts. In turn, these facts represent ultimate truth, which must then be used to understand biblical teachings. However, the Bible contains numerous claims and events that are not going to be popularly accepted as scientific. Are these claims now unacceptable to Christians? Scripture records the occurrence of numerous miracles performed by God. By definition, a miracle is an event not explainable by natural processes. Otherwise, it would hardly constitute a miracle. Are these miracles going to be accepted as scientific? What do these theologians...

Hard to imagine it's been so long. 29 years ago today the United States of America amateur hockey team defeated a team of Russian professionals during the winter Olympics in what has to be the greatest upset in sports history. It lifted a nation. It was nothing short of surreal. This video is a newly discovered original call of the game by Curt Chaplin who was covering the game as a sports reporter for the ABC Radio Network. Standing on a camera platform in the crowd, he did play-by-play of the entire game into his tape recorder, capturing the event...

The company of the prophets said to Elisha, "Look, the place where we meet with you is too small for us. Let us go to the Jordan, where each of us can get a pole; and let us build a place there for us to live." And he said, "Go." Then one of them said, "Won't you please come with your servants?" "I will," Elisha replied. And he went with them. They went to the Jordan and began to cut down trees. As one of them was cutting down a tree, the iron axhead fell into the water. "Oh, my...

And the man got up and went home. When the crowd saw this, they were filled with awe; and they praised God, who had given such authority to men. Matthew 9:7-8 Jesus was a crowd pleaser, though that's not what he set out to do. Generally speaking, the crowds liked Him. He did some pretty cool stuff (healing men and casting out demons is some cool stuff when it's done right in front of your eyes)! They were probably puzzled at the Jewish leaders' contempt for him and hostile reaction to him. Jesus had just healed the paralytic. He instructed...

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - A "miracle" at one local hospital has a lot of people talking. This picture was taken in the hallway leading into Presbyterian's Pediatric Cancer center. A little girl there was taken off life support, her mother in her room praying. At the same time, a nurse noticed a man standing in the hallway. When she pushed the security button to let him in, no one was there. According to a nurse, this happened several times -- seeing him behind the doors, then he would vanish. Someone thought he had wings, so they took the picture (on...

A pilgrim prays at the foot of a statue of Mary at the sanctuary in Lourdes Feb. 10, the eve of the 150th anniversary of Mary's first appearance to St. Bernadette. (CNS/Nancy Wiechec) A lede like the one The Associated Press published yesterday — “An international doctors’ panel appointed by the Roman Catholic Church says it’s getting out of the ‘miracles’ business at Lourdes” — might raise some eyebrows. But relax, oh faithful believers in the miraculous healing powers of the spring waters of Lourdes. The doctors never really dubbed a cure a miracle. They are the first step in a long process.Last February while in...

CONCORD Democratic Senate candidate Jeanne Shaheen's once imposing lead over U.S. Sen. John E. Sununu has all but vanished in recent months according to a University of New Hampshire Survey Center poll released today. Shaheen leads Sununu in this poll of likely voters, 46 percent to 42 percent, but the spread is within its margin of error of plus or minus 4.5 percent. Pollster Andrew Smith stressed the race remains wide open since only 22 percent said they had definitely decided upon a candidate. During a telephone interview, Smith said voters are starting to focus more on the choices...

In Israel, a resurgence in the number of Jews who believe in Jesus is getting a lot of attention. Many leaders say it's the strongest growth since the time of Jesus and that the Messianic movement could be on the brink of a great revival. "This is the first time where we've seen Israeli society in general being so open to consider who Yeshua is," said Messianic leader Asher Intrater. "This is a real miracle, and there's beginning to be grace and favor with us in the land." Although Jesus and the early disciples were Jewish, for nearly 2,000 years...

Indianapolis - A great grandmother believes a higher power helped her and three family members survive a Monday night shooting. Before stray bullets from a gun battle at Sherman Drive and 38th Street ripped through her car, Charlotte Thompson didn't even know what gunfire sounded like. "I'd never heard a gunshot," she said. She was sitting at a red light around 7:00 pm Monday when the fight broke out. "We heard this pow, pow, pow, pow, pow, pow," Thompson said. "Then Shyann said 'Oh! I'm shot!'" Her 10-year-old great granddaughter was sitting in the back seat, shot in the stomach....

"God put me there, not to watch, but to help." That is how Tim Scott of Bristol, Virginia explains his presence at the fiery crash on the southbound lanes of Interstate 81 near exit 69 Tuesday, April 9th. Scott, who stopped to help after seeing a tractor trailer, driven by Larry Harvey of Princeton, West Virginia, dragging a 1987 Oldsmobile down the interstate, just happened to have a fire extinguisher in his vehicle. From Rasmussen Reports on February 9: " polling since Mitt Romney suspended his campaign shows John McCain leading Mike Huckabee 55% to 24% in the race for the Republican Presidential Nomination. McCain also leads Huckabee 724 to 196 in delegates and there is no viable path to the nomination for Huckabee. As a result, Rasmussen Reports will no longer conduct daily tracking polls of the race for the Republican Presidential nomination." Not so fast, John McCain. Republican White House long shot Mike Huckabee cast himself as the New York Giants of political candidates, a scrappy David hustling to knock off Goliath. Huckabee won the Kansas caucuses and beat McCain, the presumptive nominee, in Louisiana Saturday night - though there will be a runoff because neither crested 50%. Huckabee insisted yesterday he's in the race for the duration, or until McCain wraps up the 1,191 delegates needed for the nomination - even though the Arizona senator now leads 714 to 214. "I didn't major in math," the former Arkansas governor told a...

There's new hope for the five million people in the United States who live with heart failure. Scientists say they have been able to grow a rat heart in a lab. They were also successful at getting it to start beating. About 50,000 people die each year waiting for a heart donor. But that all may change thanks to a rat heart, built by scientists at the University of Minnesota. "Everyone has cells," Dr. Doris Taylor told CBN News. "What's lacking is a way to put that together in a 3-D structure that lets you create an organ," she explained....

As we watch the news and read the papers, we realize there are many misconceptions about Christmas and about miracles. Christmas is not a season of tolerance. It is a season of love. Christmas is not a season of worry. It is a season for worship. Christmas is not a season of praising friends and family members. It is a season for glorifying God. Christmas is not a season of decorations and presents under the tree. It is a season for acknowledging the presence of God in our lives. To be honest, Christmas is not even a season of giving....

McLean, VA - Senator Fred Thompson issued the following statement regarding today's scientific breakthrough in adult cell research: "There is exciting news for patients today. "For all who are concerned for patients and their families, the effective, ethical, and compassionate answer is to put our money where the breakthroughs are happening -- in...

The collapse of the I-35W Bridge in Minneapolis is a tragedy of gargantuan proportions but it was followed by bravery, stories of heroism and miracles also on a grand scale. Top fire fighter, Chief Jim Clark of the Minneapolis Fire Department exclaimed that the first miracle was the low death toll. Clark said, We were surprised that we didnt have more people seriously injured and killed, I think it was something of a miracle. With upwards of 500 cars crossing the bridge at any given moment that qualifies as a miracle for most of us.

Lazarus Revisited Devout Christians believe Jesus of Nazareth raised Lazarus - brother of Mary and Martha of Bethany - from the grave four days after his death and burial. One pious tradition has it that Lazarus subsequently wandered with a small band of early Christian followers to Marseilles, became the first Bishop of Provence, and was martyred by the Romans. Others say he remained in the holy land, lived a quiet and examplary life, and was buried as a saint in Constantinople. Ah, but Biblical people were real people : motivated by the same petty things we are ...

THE VATICAN is close to making the late pope John Paul II a saint after investigating three "miracles" attributed to him. John Paul had already been credited with curing a nun of Parkinson's disease and now it has emerged he has been credited with two other cures, proof of which will confer on him beatification and then canonisation. This weekend the cardinal in charge of the process said he expected the checks performed by the local dioceses on all three miracles to be complete by April. A formal announcement is expected on April 2, the second anniversary of John Paul's death,...
