Police arrested a suspected carjacker who apparently made a poor choice of potential victims. Albuquerque officers booked 20-year-old Angelo Martinez after the attempted robbery last week, according to KRQE. The players said they saw Martinez hanging around the Loma Linda Community Center football field, but had no idea who he was, according to KOAT. When they walked to their car, one of the players told KOAT Martinez was “acting sketchy as if he was trying to get in.” Several members of the team finally agreed to give him a ride, but said he kept changing his mind about his destination....

Two pit bulls are being hailed as heroes after saving children from a copperhead snake. According to WFLA, Slayer and Paco began barking at the snake when it got close to children who were playing in the backyard. That’s when the snake struck, and bit both dogs with its venom. Slayer was struck in he face and snout, while Paco was bit in the leg. Melissa Butt, the children’s grandmother, immediately rushed both dogs to an emergency vet. “We need to get the anti-venom quickly, in order for them to get a good prognosis. It is very, very painful,” Dr....

The so-called snitch scandal has led to the retrial of several convicted killers, sparked criticism of Orange County Dist. Atty. Tony Rackauckas and Sheriff Sandra Hutchens and led to a federal investigation. The county’s beleaguered law enforcement leaders received their most stinging rebuke yet on Friday, when Superior Court Judge Thomas Goethals blocked prosecutors from pursuing the death penalty against a man who confessed to slaughtering eight people in a Seal Beach salon, ruling that the county’s mishandling of information regarding informants would prevent a fair trial.

Norwegian Prime Minister Erna Solberg has come in for sharp criticism after being quoted as saying the Nazis and the extreme left had “much in common”. The comments by Solberg were published by the Dagbladet newspaper on August 11th in response to a neo-Nazi demonstration in Kristiansand — not to last weekend’s events in Charlottesville, USA in which a woman was killed by a far right demonstrator. US President Donald Trump was widely criticized by both Democrats and members of the Republican party for seeking to draw a parallel between Nazi demonstrators in Charlottesville and left wing counter protesters including...

CHINATOWN (CBSLA.com) — The white Ford Bronco has returned. As CBS2’s Jo Kwon reports, an OJ Simpson museum is opening at a Chinatown gallery. The white Bronco sitting right outside the museum is not the actual vehicle OJ was in during the 1994 chase — just the same year and model.

Widely regarded as one of the best and most influential films of all time, Francis Ford Coppola's 1972 gangster epic The Godfather turned many of its shooting locations - as well as its lead actors - into movie icons. Visit the scenes of the crimes of the Corleone family in the US and Sicily and you'll discover that they have a few dark - or at least intriguing - tales of their own. In celebration of the 3rd Annual Chuck Brown Day, which is scheduled for Aug. 19, the D.C. Public Library hosted a series of workshops and screenings, including the panel discussion, “Go-Go, As D.C. History,” where lovers of his sound gathered to remember...

Researchers say they have found a new clue into the mysterious exodus of ancient cliff-dwelling people from the Mesa Verde area of Colorado more than 700 years ago: DNA from the bones of domesticated turkeys. The DNA shows the Mesa Verde people raised turkeys that had telltale similarities to turkeys kept by ancient people in the Rio Grande Valley of northern New Mexico — and that those birds became more common in New Mexico about the same time the Mesa Verde people were leaving their cliff dwellings, according to a paper published last month in the journal PLoS One. That...

9/17/17. Madison, Wisconsin. Leftist mayor Madison Paul Soglin announced today that he will have the informational monument at the city’s Confederate Rest cemetery removed, the northern-most Confederate cemetery in the country. The cemetery holds the remains of southern soldiers who died while imprisoned at civil war Camp Randall, the current site of the Wisconsin Badger football stadium. The cemetery is respectfully tended and maintained, and services are held with graves decorated on Memorial Day. The plaque to be removed explains the origin of the cemetery and who lies buried there.

Facing an uproar over its decision to renege on a deal to rent out the city-owned Queens Museum building for a celebration of Israel’s 70th anniversary, the institution on Wednesday said it will allow the event to proceed. Danny Danon, Israel’s UN ambassador, said the Israeli Mission had reached a deal with the museum in June for the Nov. 29 event and all was fine until it became public.

The tragedy in Charlottesville, Virginia, could have been an occasion to stop and consider how the tolerance for politically correct violence and politically correct hatred is leading the nation toward civil war. Instead, the media and the political left have turned this incident into the biggest fake news story of the summer, transforming its real lessons into a morality play that justifies war against the political right, and against white people generally. The organizers of the "Unite the Right" demonstration in Charlottesville were repellent racists. But they came to defend a historic monument honoring a complex man and cause, and...

Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino on Wednesday vetoed legislation aimed at protecting illegal immigrants because he believes it could result in the county being labeled as a sanctuary municipality, risking millions in federal funds. Mr. Astorino said the legislation would jeopardize public safety and cost taxpayers $13 million. “If you end up in our jail for committing a crime, and you’re not here legally, we’re not providing a sanctuary for you,” Mr. Astorino said.

Mayor Rahm Emanuel and Police Supt. Eddie Johnson on Tuesday bemoaned the fights that forced the United Center to close, canceling the championship game of a basketball league intended to keep teenagers off the streets in the summer. The pandemonium — some captured on cellphone video — prevented neighborhood teams made up of players from two of Chicago’s top high school basketball teams — Orr Academy and Curie Metropolitan — from squaring off in a title game. As upsetting to Emanuel and Johnson as the ugly scene outside the United Center was the fact that the league itself was supposed...

The first snow of the season has fallen in northern Sweden, but most of the country still remains flake-free. The snowfall came on Monday evening and in the early hours of Tuesday at the Låktatjåkko ski lodge, Sweden's highest mountain station at 1,228 metres above sea level. “We had a lot of snow last winter. It was a good season for skiing,” station attendant Henrietta Backman told regional newspaper Norrbottens-kuriren. There are still large patches of snow left over from last winter in the area, and it is not unusual for the first snow of the new season to fall...

A sheriff’s deputy arrested a woman outside a Florida middle school after he allegedly spotted her chopping up and using cocaine while waiting in the parent pick-up line Tuesday. The Lee County deputy said he was patrolling Lexington Middle School just before 4 p.m. when he saw 39-year-old Christina Hester snort the drug off the screen of her iPhone with a straw, according to WFTX. The deputy took Hester to his office where he arrested her. A field test later determined that half a gram of white powder found in her purse was cocaine, according to WFTX. Hester has been...
